SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN ON CERTAIN TOYOTA MODELS

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia, today announced two Special Service Campaign (SSC) that involved replacement of the airbag inflator of certain Toyota models and the engine valve replacement for Toyota 86 model sold by the company. UMWT assures that the safety of their customers is always Toyota’s top priority.

1) Re-Replacement of Airbag Inflator…

The vehicles involved in this campaign were subjected to a previous Takata airbag inflator recall and repaired between 2013 and 2014, where certain number of vehicles were replaced with a non-desiccated airbag inflators produced by Takata. In this current campaign, those airbag inflators will be replaced with a further improved airbag inflator components. There are around 2400 Toyota vehicles manufactured from 2001 to 2003 are involved.  The models are Toyota Vios that were produced from May to July 2003, Toyota Corolla Altis, produced from July 2001 to June 2003 and Toyota Camry produced from June 2002 to March 2003.

2) Engine Valve Spring replacement for Toyota 86…

Due to the excessive performance load (overload) compared to the design assumption of the valve spring and manufacturing variation (variation of metal fatigue strength and micro foreign matter in the spring material), performance load may exceed the valve spring’s fatigue strength and potentially fracture. If the spring fractures, the engine may stall while driving and may become unable to restart it, increasing safety risk.

There are around 120 units of Toyota 86 model manufactured from year 2012 to 2013 are involved in Malaysia.  No other Toyota or Lexus models covered by this campaign. UMWT will notify all its affected vehicle owners officially and perform the special service at no charge to the owner.

For further information, owners of affected cars can contact any authorised Toyota service centre or call the Toyota Freephone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).

Toyota owners can also visit Toyota’s Special Service Campaign webpage through this link: toyota.com.my to check whether their vehicle is involved, through Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Checker. To those who have uploaded the Toyota Drive Apps, there is also a link to Toyota’s SSC page and the VIN Checker.  Information on other vital SSCs is also available on the webpage.

Set to debut in January 2019 and priced below RM100,000, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. (UMWT) today introduced the All-new 7-seater Toyota Rush, the second generation of the SUV model developed especially for ASEAN markets. The All-new Toyota Rush has been on sale for some 10 years, with over 18,000 units sold throughout Malaysia. Engineered for robustness and designed for practicality, the All-new Toyota Rush has received regular updates to meet the changing needs of customers. Here’s the video of its maiden debut a few hours ago…

With the new second generation, the All-new Toyota Rush retains the image of an Urban SUV for Rugged-Active Lifestyles, despite only having 2-wheel drive (rear wheel drive), combining the comfort of a passenger car with spaciousness, high seating position, and greater ground clearance of an SUV. The All-new Toyota Rush also introduces 360-T, a new Toyota approach to provide the best package for customers that will be used in all its upcoming models.  360-T is all about Trust and Technology by Toyota, giving customers a complete suite of innovations, designed to protect and provide total advantage on the road. With that said, here’s the first-impression video of our brief test-drive of the new Toyota Rush immediately following the launch…

Three elements make up the 360-T: Safe-T Plus with the latest safety features and systems as a standard feature; Connectivi-T which provides latest technology for connectivity, entertainment and safety; and Guaran-T for total peace of mind throughout the ownership of the vehicle. The design of the All-new Toyota Rush is an indication of the dynamism that can be expected from upcoming Toyota models. Departing from the conventional form of the first generation, the styling has sharp character lines which give an advanced unique design that is known as ‘R-BLADE’. The ‘R’ stands for ‘Rush’ and the ‘blade’ refers to Metal, Sharp and Edge, while a dual tone theme on the bodywork adds visual impact.

The new image of the All-new Toyota Rush has also been elevated to be more advanced with a premium look and feel that comes with high value-added features, making it even better value for moneyThe All-new Toyota Rush is powered by the latest Toyota 16-valve DOHC 1.5-litre engine which has a maximum output of 105 ps at 6,000 rpm with 136 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. With a proven and reliable 4-speed automatic transmission that comes with Automatic Stop-Start system, fuel consumption is better and can be as good as 15.6 kms per litre. This qualifies it as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) under the current Malaysian National Automotive Policy.

The All-new Toyota Rush continue with rear-wheel drive for a greater variety of terrain conditions, offering better traction for uphill climbs when carrying heavier loads. Other features include Electric Power Steering (EPS) which contributes to the good fuel efficiency, and tyres with the largest diameter in its class. Despite the large tyre size, the All-new Toyota Rush still has an agile turning radius of 5.2 metres.

The seating layout is 2-3-2 over three rows, with easy access to the third row. The cargo capacity is 217 litres but when required, the volume can be expanded to 514 litres by folding the rear seats. Additionally, for those who may have long or large objects (not exceeding 50 kgs); the edges of the roof have integrated low profile rails which the cargo can be placed on.

The new DVD-AVX audio system has a large 6.8-inch capacitive touchscreen and the unit can be linked to a compatible smartphone to ‘mirror’ the smartphone’s screen onto the audio display. This allows GPS navigation apps such as Google Maps and Waze to be used and viewed from the display screen. Other standard features include 13 cupholders, a Multi-Info Display, Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) for a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the vehicle, and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR). A Toyota AutoTag is also installed for electronic payment of toll while the Smart Entry system locks/unlocks the doors with just a touch of the button located on the outside door handles.

Toyota places top priority on safety and has developed many new Active Safety systems which can help the driver avoid accidents. The combination of advanced safety systems plus computer-aided engineering and design has enabled the All-new Toyota Rush to score the highest overall rating of 5-stars from ASEAN NCAP (for both Adult & Child Occupant Protection categories).

A new standard active safety feature is the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). BSM helps the driver to be more aware of other road-users in the vehicle’s blind spot, reducing the risk of a collision, while the RCTA is able to warn the driver of approaching vehicles as the vehicle is reversing out of a parking bay.

Also new is the Pre-Collision System (PCS) which helps to reduce low to medium speed accidents due to inattentive driving (only available on the Rush 1.5S). The system, which uses a stereo camera, has four features: Pre-collision Warning, Pre-collision Braking, Front Departure Alert, and Pedal Misoperation Control. The system is designed as a driver assistance feature but gives priority to driver inputs which will override its functions.

The All-new Toyota Rush comes with a 5-year full warranty with unlimited mileage. UMWT expects to sell around 3,600 units in 2019 and in anticipation of high demand, the new model will be assembled under contract at Perodua’s manufacturing plant. The estimated price of the All-new Toyota Rush is RM98,000 for the S variant and RM93,000 for the G variant. The model comes with 5 exterior colours choices – White, Silver Metallic, Dark Gray Metallic, Blue Metallic and Dark Green Metallic.  Bookings for the two variants are accepted at all authorised Toyota showrooms nationwide from today.

Since its launch in Malaysia in January this year, the Toyota Harrier has been in great demand. To date, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has delivered over 500 units to customers throughout Malaysia but with the number of outstanding orders still high, the waiting period has been longer. Now, with cooperation for Toyota Motor Corporation in increasing the supply of the Harrier from the production line in Japan, more stocks are available and customers can expect the waiting period to be shortened.

“We understand that our customers had to wait for a longer period to get delivery of their vehicle. The global demand for the Harrier has been great right from the start and for Malaysia, it surged further during the three months of tax break. The production in Japan is now able to supply more to suit the demand and we will have more vehicles available for delivery,” said Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.

Priced from RM243,000 (for Peninsular Malaysia registration with SST, without insurance), the latest Harrier is available in two variants – Premium and Luxury. Both variants use the latest generation 2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which features a twin scroll turbocharger, D-4ST direct fuel-injection and VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide) for high output with high fuel efficiency as well.

The Harrier’s occupants are well protected with the Toyota Safety Sense Package, a comprehensive suite of Active Safety systems (available in a Toyota model in Malaysia for the first time). These include a Pre-Crash System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping System, Lane Departure Alert and Adaptive High-Beam System.

Other safety systems included are Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Emergency Stop Signal, Electronic Parking Brake + Auto Brake Hold, and Parking Sensors with a Reverse Camera.

Four colour choices are available – Dark Blue Mica Metallic, White Pearl, Sparkling Black Pearl and Silver Metallic. The Harrier comes with 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage. For peace of mind, owners are assured of service and spare parts from all Toyota dealerships throughout Malaysia.

Toyota is also currently running the ‘All About the Drive Bonanza’ promotion until end of the year, those who book a new Harrier stand a chance to win a holiday package and will also be eligible to win a brand new Toyota Sienta compact MPV. More details are available at www.toyota.com.my.

After the drive experience, he or she will receive Toyota merchandise items and also an opportunity to enter a contest where they are required to answer a simple quiz for a chance to win smartphones and mobile gadgets.

Once the customers book their new Toyota, they will be entitled to join another contest to win holiday packages. Moving on, customers who confirm their bookings will be eligible to enter the final contest to stand a chance to win one of four Toyota Sienta MPVs as the grand prize.

In line with Toyota’s philosophy of kaizen or constant improvement, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has announced that the Toyota Fortuner, Innova and Hilux have received upgrades and enhancements. Order taking for the models commences from 3 September 2018, with the sales launch and deliveries to customers to take place later in September.

Joining the colour range for the Innova and Fortuner is a new colour – Phantom Brown –a new exterior finish that Toyota introduced for the models internationally. The addition of this dark and bold colour gives Fortuner buyers up to six different choices while Innova buyers can choose from seven. Toyota is also striving towards the realization of the ultimate goal of a mobile society – zero casualties from traffic accidents. As a leading automobile manufacturer supplying millions of vehicles globally each year, Toyota has been ensuring that they are equipped with safety features and systems, which will help to make driving safer and reduce accidents.

In connection with this, the Fortuner has received upgrading in safety specifications with advanced driver assistance systems, now standard for all four variants. Specifically, the systems are Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Brake Assist (BA), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and Active Traction Control (A-TRC). While VSC, BA and HAC have been available for many years, A-TRC is a more recent development that provides more effective traction control in slippery conditions. It is therefore especially valuable during drives in off-road conditions when there may be muddy terrain. A-TRC detects wheel spin and distributes torque between front and rear wheels to suppress unnecessary wheel spin and control skidding.

The system can detect when one or more wheels have lost traction and automatically applies the brakes to the wheel with no traction, allowing it to send power to the wheel with traction. This way, the vehicle’s stability is maintained and the driver can safely drive around a turn. Developed under the same Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) program, the Fortuner, Innova and Hilux shares the common DNA of toughness, durability and reliability. Their engineering draws on experience in making vehicles that can provide safe and comfortable transport in all types of conditions around the world.

The Fortuner and Innova comes with a spacious cabin that can fit 7 persons and up to 8 persons for the latter. This latest generation has more convenience features such as power-operated rear cargo doors and cruise control (for Fortuner only), Smart Entry & Start system, LED headlamps and 8-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat. The infotainment systems with large touchscreen displays also have extensive features, including connectivity to compatible smartphones and to the internet while on the move (connection to internet is required).

The Hilux, with a 50-year history, is the King of every terrain. The latest generation is the best ever developed as it combines rugged engineering that has given the pick-up a long-lasting reputation with modern technologies to make driving more enjoyable and safer. The technology enhances the 4×4 capabilities of the Hilux and give the driver more confidence and control over any terrain.

Owners of the Fortuner, Innova and Hilux can enjoy peace of mind with a generous 5-year warranty. For the Fortuner and Innova, there is no limit on the mileage within the 5 years. Owners of all Toyota vehicles distributed by UMWT are assured of complete aftersales support through a nationwide network of authorised service centres.

The prices of the new Fortuner, Innova and Hilux, inclusive of Sales & Service Tax (SST) for Private Registration, without insurance are as follow:

Toyota Fortuner (4 variants) – from RM 170,500 ~ RM 195,600

Toyota Innova (4 variants) – from RM 107,280 ~ RM 132,400

Since being officially imported and distributed in Malaysia by UMW Toyota Motor from 2014, the Toyota Alphard and Toyota Vellfire (from 2016) have been in great demand by those wanting a luxurious MPV from Japan. To date, over 3,000 units have been sold through authorised Toyota showrooms nationwide, accounting for 50% of the premium MPV market.

For the 2018 model year, both models have received upgrades and improvements to make them even better value for money. The new specifications include a new engine and transmission and this new powertrain specification will only be available for units distributed by UMW Toyota Motor and sold by authorised Toyota dealers in Malaysia.

Toyota Alphard…

As before, the Alphard is available in two variants – the Alphard 3.5 Executive Lounge which offers Premium Luxury and the Alphard 3.5 which offers Advanced Luxury. Both variants now come with the new 2GR-FKS 3.5-litre V6 engine and advanced 8-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission.

The powerful new engine has a D-4S injection system for optimum fuel delivery in all driving conditions. This system utilises high-pressure and low-pressure injectors to meet combustion needs throughout the engine speed range. The Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide (VVT-iW) system provides high torque from low to high rpm ranges. It uses the Atkinson cycle to enhance fuel economy and the Otto cycle for power.

Toyota Vellfire…

Like the new Alphard, the Vellfire has also received cosmetic changes which strengthen the distinctive cool and modern looks that give the model its unique identity. For the new model, the upper and lower parts of the three-dimensional two-part structure have a clearer expression at the front, strengthening the body’s overall sense of unity. This accentuates the rearward-flowing dynamic design, and the powerful solid impression of the lower body. 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels with a dynamic new design are fitted.

From the bonnet to the bumper, the structure is integrated into a single ingot-shaped grille design, accentuating the pushed-outwards impression of the centre and expressing modern luxury in a solid form. Fog lamp bezels, positioned low, together with the flared form of the corners, accentuate the wide and low stance. The aggressively shaped triangular fog lamp bezels, following current Toyota design cues, gives the bumper corners a more dynamic impression.

To match the cubic form of the front end of the Vellfire, the upper headLamps incorporate two square projectors. Together with the blue accent of the extension, this creates a cool expression and an advanced tech image. When activated, the turn signals show the direction of the vehicle’s intended movement by sequential illumination.

Yup, FIFTY proud new owners took delivery of their brand-spanking-new Toyota CH-R in a special ceremony / partayyyyy recently organised by UMW Toyota Motor.

The event was held at Technology Park Malaysia (TPM) , the venue for the final round of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Series being held this weekend of 24-25 March 2018 (details on that here).

Here’s a quick look at the CH-R (Compact High Rider) during its maiden public debut during the MAEPS Malaysia Auto Show thanks to EVO Aurizn:

Speaking at the function, Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor said, the delivery to the first 50 customers in Malaysia also mark the official introduction of the All New Toyota C-HR.

“Since being previewed last year, interest in the All New Toyota C-HR has been high. To date, we have received around 1,500 bookings for the model and because this is a unique model, we wanted to personally handover the vehicle to our first 50 customers,” he said.

“We are always grateful for the support given by our customers and they can be assured the best Toyota ownership experience with maintenance and services from fully trained technicians on the C-HR but also availability of replacements parts when needed. Furthermore, only with Toyota models sold by UMW Toyota Motor and its authorised dealers, they can enjoy a 5 years warranty with unlimited mileage,” Ravindran added.

Since its global debut, the All New Toyota C-HR has been a hit in every market that it has been launched in. Apart from its obvious looks, the model sits on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform which is being used for many new Toyota models.

For the Malaysian market, the C-HR is introduced with one variant, a 1.8-litre petrol engine with 7-speed Sequential Shiftmatic CVT. Its safety features include ABS as standard with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) as well as Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and a Blind Spot Monitoring system (BSM). The C-HR is also equipped with an Electric Parking Brake and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards while moving on a steep slope.

The interior design concept is a departure from the conventional approaches and combines high-tech functionality with fashionable style. The driver-oriented area incorporates innovative details and intuitive technology with sharp and clear Optitron meters and a 4.2-inch Colour Multi-Information Display (MID) that keeps the driver informed of the vehicle’s operation. For enthusiast drivers, there’s also a G-monitor which shows the G-force exerted by the vehicle during cornering, acceleration or deceleration.
