Geely opens EV research centre in Germany

The Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, or more commonly known as Geely, has announced that they have started operations on a new EV research centre based in the heart of Germany. The brand-new Geely Auto Technical Deutschland (GATD) facility is looking into employing roughly around 300 high-profile engineers and experts from around the world.

The Geely Auto Technical Deutschland (GATD) facility will focus on the company’s next monumental move into the future world of automobility; to develop premium electric vehicles and other next-generation mobility technology to be used by multiple brands currently being invested by Geely.

Having huge shares in car companies like Volvo, Daimler, and even Malaysia’s very own Proton, Geely’s goal to produce more futuristic vehicles goes together with the introduction of the new facility. They, however, did not disclose the amount of money invested in the said plant.

Focusing on increasing their global presence, especially in the European market, the EV research centre will be looking for exceptional talents from lighting system development all the way to energy control management.

The question is, will this facility develop technology that will then trickle down to the future models of Proton? If yes, how soon will we see the very first full-production hybrid or full-electric Proton model? Judging by Geely’s pace in the industry, it’ll come sooner that we’ve anticipated.
