Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R – Top reasons to get one

A lot of different people will give you a lot of different reasons what cars to buy. It all goes down to your personal preference but when it comes to the new Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R, Renault has make things easier by listing down all the good things about their model (which also happens to be the fastest ever front-wheel drive production car lap of the Nürburgring).

If you’re looking for a lightweight machine that can go fast not only in the straights but carving corners like a scalpel, the Mégane R.S. Trophy-R is has gone through one heck of a diet weighing at 130kg less than the standard Mégane R.S. Trophy.

Want power? This baby has plenty under the hood thanks to its reworked 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which punches out a cool 296hp and a whopping 400Nm of spine-tingling torque. This powerhouse is mated to a super-efficient six-speed manual gearbox for some extra fun factor.

These two main combinations allowed the Trophy-R to lap around the infamous Nürburgring at a very impressive 7 minutes 40 seconds. Don’t believe us? Check out the video below of its record-breaking run. WARNING: This will excite you.

Other factors that contribute to how good the new Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy-R performs are:

  • Totally redesigned suspension featuring lighter, motorsport-inspired components
  • More negative camber for the front axle and standard Öhlins adjustable dampers all round
  • Renault Sport developed Bridgestone S007 tyres optimised for fast road and track use
  • Aerodynamic improvements with underbody fairing and carbon rear diffuser
  • Torsen limited slip differential for ultimate traction and control
  • Optional carbon ceramic front brakes and carbon wheels – a first in this sector
  • Larger Brembo four piston front brake calipers as standard
  • Standard carbon composite bonnet with NACA duct
  • Lightweight titanium Akrapovič exhaust exclusive to Trophy-R
  • Sabelt composite front seats with optional six-point racing harness

According to Patrice Ratti, Renault Sport Cars General Manager, “The new Mégane R.S. Trophy-R completes the Mégane R.S. range with a more extreme version. It is very similar to a racing car but is certified for the public highway. We know there are customers looking for this type of car, and not every driver should be put behind the wheel of such a car. For the engineers it’s an opportunity to concentrate their know-how to produce the fastest car possible. The Nürburgring record is a demonstration of that performance.”

If you’re looking into getting one for yourself, you should know that the production number for this model is only limited to 500 units for global consumption. Orders will open starting August 2019 and it is expected to be priced at around €55,000 in the EU (around RM 255,728).
