Honda Malaysia opens first ‘green’ 3S centre in Ipoh, Perak

The first ever Honda Malaysia Gold-Rated Building Index 3S Centre has just been launched and it is in Ipoh, Perak. Operated by Ban Hoe Seng (Auto) Sdn Bhd, the RM15 million showroom is the first of its kind to receive the Green Building Index (GBI) award.

What is GBI? It is a green rating tool for buildings recognised by the Malaysia industry focused on raising awareness on environmental issues and promoting sustainability in the built environment. In short, the latest Honda showroom in Ipoh is Malaysia’s first environmentally friendly vehicle showroom and service centre.

The building comes with features that make use of natural resources efficiently, which will help in waste minimisation, energy saving and reduce water usage. The requirements that they had to achieve in order to receive such an award were:

  • 60% natural daylight use through its large glass openings and skylights
  • Zonal energy efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting with motion sensors
  • Natural ventilation through stack and cross ventilation in the workshop area
  • 100% potable offset for landscape and Water Closet (WC) flushing

According to Honda Malaysia Managing Director and CEO, Mr Toichi Ishiyama, “As one of the oldest Honda dealerships in Malaysia, Ban Hoe Seng (Auto) continues to impress us with their challenging spirit and successes. This award-winning dealership has now set a new benchmark by being the first to build and develop an environmentally friendly Honda 3S Centre that maximizes resource efficiency and focuses on the building’s sustainability.”

Honda’s latest showroom includes 19 bays which can accommodate up to 60 cars on any given day and customers who service their cars here can enjoy amenities such as its comfortable customer lounges, complimentary Wi-Fi services, Kid’s Corner, free flow food and beverages as well as Muslim Prayer Room.
