2020 BMW M340i xDrive range unveiled – Saloon & Touring variants

The new BMW 3 Series range is getting a lot of attention as of late and what better way to further entice it than to introduce two more variants into the line-up. BMW is proud to introduce their latest additions, the 2020 BMW M340i xDrive Saloon and Touring versions with more racing technology embedded into its superbly comfortable driving experience.

Applying the manufacturer’s expertise in road racing, the new BMW M340i xDrive series comes with updated powertrain and chassis technology. If that’s not special enough, BMW also announced that only 340 units of each model will be produced for world consumption.

Under the hood lies a powerful 374hp 3.0-litre inline-six M TwinPower Turbo engine that’s able to deliver instantaneous power in a very smooth and controlled manner. The Saloon variant is able to hit 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.4 seconds while the Touring is just as powerful with a time of 4.5 seconds.

With close to 50hp more than the previous range topper, these babies are also able to put out around 500Nm of maximum torque. This is all possible thanks to some updated parts like its aluminium crankcase, lightweight pistons, ‘form honing’ cylinder bores, twin-scroll turbocharger, and many more.

The new BMW M340i xDrive range sends its power to the latest-generation eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive and M Sport differential as standard. There’s also the very sinfully sound M Sport twin-tailpipe exhaust system which BMW describes its noise as an ‘emotionally rich soundtrack’.

If handling is where you’re most concerned with, fear not as its state-of-the-art chassis is further amplified with a set of M Sport suspension package as standard that features M-specific ‘elastokinematic’ properties and lift-related dampers. This helps to keep the car steady and smooth from any body roll and uncomfortable vibrations.

If sexy is what you’re looking for, the new BMW M340i xDrive units are also fitted with a set of bespoke 18-inch M light-alloy wheels shod with mixed-size tyres measuring 225/45 R 18 at the front and 255/40 R 18 at the rear. Behind those sexy wheels are a set of M Sport brakes painted in the iconic BMW M blue.

Other noteworthy features include:

  • M-specific design features with optimised aerodynamic properties
  • M-specific sports seats with Sensatec and Alcantara
  • BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite, M pedals, M-specific floor mats and interior trim strips in Aluminium Tetragon
  • Three-zone automatic climate control
  • Ambient lighting, extended storage and an automatically dimming rear-view mirror
  • Park Distance Control with sensors
  • BMW Live Cockpit Plus complete with navigation system and an 8.8-inch Control Display
  • Connected Package Plus including Real Time Traffic Information, Remote Services, Concierge Services and Apple CarPlay
