Transport Minister Answers Questions About Roadtax/Driving Licence Matters

Following the announcement by the Transport Minister that drivers and motorcyclists will no longer have to display the roadtax sticker on the windscreen or carry a physical driving licence, there were many questions which popped up on social media. The minister and his team must have looked through them and decided to promptly provide answers and clarification via social media channels last night as well.

These are the 6 questions which answers were given for:

Is it mandatory to download the ‘MyJPJ’ app?

No. It is just one of the options to obtain a digital copy of the roadtax and driving licence.

If the ‘MyJPJ’ app cannot be downloaded or cannot show the digital roadtax information, will I be charged with committing an offence?

No. Enforcement officers will be able to check on the roadtax and driving licence status on their systems.

Will roadtax and driver’s licence fees still have to be paid after they expire?

Yes. Payment must be made. The only change is that there is no need to stick [roadtax document] on the windscreen.

What about senior citizens who may not have smartphones or when in areas that have no internet service?

No worries as the digital format is not mandatory. It is still possible to obtain a roadtax sticker and physical driving licence from the JPJ if required.

If the driver of the vehicle is not the owner of the vehicle, it will not be possible to show the digital roadtax so what can be done?

The digital roadtax can be printed out on paper and a copy kept in the vehicle. However, if such a document is not available for inspection, it will still not be considered an offence. The enforcement officers will check the details on their equipment.

Why do I have problems accessing MyJPJ since this morning?

As with any new system introduced, there will of course be many people who want to sign up. The traffic has therefore been very high.
