Audi Unveils MHEV Plus: A Leap in Hybrid Technology

Audi has introduced its groundbreaking Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) Plus technology, blending efficiency and performance in its combustion-engine vehicles. The system features a powertrain generator (PTG), belt alternator starter (BAS), and a lithium iron phosphate battery, offering reduced emissions, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced agility.

The MHEV Plus system enables partially electric driving, electric boosting, and advanced energy recovery. The PTG, integrated with power electronics and an electric motor, allows emission-free coasting and smoother acceleration. This compact module delivers up to 24hp of electric power and 230Nm of torque, enhancing responsiveness and reducing fuel consumption by up to 0.74 litres per 100km.

Notably, the system supports speeds up to 140km/h in electric mode and is optimised for energy recovery during braking. The BAS ensures quiet engine starts and contributes to battery recharging. The lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of 1.7 kWh, features water cooling for optimal performance.

Models like the Audi A5 and Q5 are among the first to benefit from MHEV Plus, showcasing fuel savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions. According to Audi, this innovation aligns with customer needs for efficient and electrified driving options.

“This technology represents a significant step in electrification, complementing our all-electric and plug-in hybrid offerings,” said Geoffrey Bouquot, Audi’s Technical Development Board Member.

With MHEV Plus, Audi continues to innovate, delivering cleaner, more dynamic vehicles without compromising performance.
