MG Motor Malaysia has unveiled the all-new MG S5 EV at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, introducing an electric B-segment SUV that combines competitive pricing, strong technical credentials and early ownership incentives aimed at propelling the brand’s electric vehicle (EV) expansion in Malaysia.
Estimated to start from RM115,000 before insurance and registration fees, the MG S5 EV was revealed alongside an exclusive early bird package for customers who place a RM500 booking during the event. Those who commit early will receive value-added benefits amounting to ten times the booking fee, as well as a complimentary 7kW Wallbox AC charger, highlighting MG’s push for accessible home charging solutions in the growing EV segment.
The MG S5 EV is offered in two variants, designated COM and LUX. The COM version is available with a choice of 49kWh or 62kWh batteries, delivering a WLTP-rated range of up to 340km and 430km respectively. The LUX variant, meanwhile, comes exclusively with the larger 62kWh battery, also offering up to 430km of range. Both variants feature a single electric motor mounted at the rear, producing 170PS and 250Nm of torque. The rear-wheel drive setup positions the MG S5 EV as the only model in its segment with such a configuration.
In terms of charging capabilities, all versions support 7kW AC charging. The LUX variant goes a step further with 150kW DC fast-charging support, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes. This focus on practical usability is complemented by MG’s battery management innovations, including an adaptive pressure control system designed to limit battery cell expansion, thus enhancing both longevity and operational safety.
Interior quality and equipment also receive a boost in the LUX variant. It comes fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, leather-fabric upholstery with perforated MG branding, and a heated leather steering wheel. Also included are a wireless phone charging pad, a powered tailgate, a six-speaker premium audio system and a 360-degree camera system. The interior layout is centred around a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with voice command functionality, accompanied by a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. The brand’s iSMART connectivity suite ensures seamless digital integration for the driver and passengers, with both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility available as standard.
Both variants are styled with LED headlamps featuring distinctive Racing Flag-inspired daytime running lights, while the rear design is highlighted by MG’s signature Arch taillight motif. Boot space measures up to 1,441 litres, including the underfloor compartment, reflecting the practical leanings of the vehicle’s crossover design. A Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function is also integrated, allowing the car to serve as a portable power source for external devices.
Engineered with an ultra-thin horizontal battery layout, the MG S5 EV benefits from a low centre of gravity and maximised cabin space. This technical approach, according to MG Motor Malaysia, sets a new benchmark for design and packaging in the B-segment EV category. The company further stated that the availability of two battery options across both variants ensures broader lifestyle compatibility, catering to drivers seeking either urban convenience or long-distance capability.
MG Motor’s presence at the Autoshow extends beyond the MG S5 EV, with test drives offered for the brand’s current line-up including the MG5, MG4, and MG HS models. The MG Cyberster — touted as the world’s first all-electric convertible sports car — is also on display. Those who book the MG Cyberster during the Autoshow will receive a complimentary 7kW Wallbox AC charger, a one-year unlimited charging package via JomCharge with Auto Charge technology, and an exclusive diecast model of the vehicle.
Further incentives include RM5,000 rebates on selected MG5 and MG HS models, along with flexible financing options for the MG4, with monthly payments beginning from as low as RM974. All bookings made during the Autoshow will come with complimentary gifts, reinforcing MG’s aggressive sales approach during the event.
Public engagement will also be a key focus throughout the event period. In partnership with Bridgestone Malaysia, MG will be hosting educational workshops on EV tyres and general tyre care. These sessions, titled “Get to Know EV Tyres and Technology” and “Tyre Care and Know-How for Every Driver,” will be held from 9 to 11 May at 1.30pm and 3.30pm, offering insights into tyre safety, performance, and the unique demands of electric mobility.
The MG S5 EV is available in five colour options: White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and Elegant Latte. MG Motor Malaysia’s booth is located in Hall A02 at MAEPS Serdang, with the Autoshow running from 9 to 15 May 2025, open daily from 10AM to 10PM. Test drives and product briefings will be conducted throughout the event.
With a compelling combination of features, range, and segment-first engineering, the MG S5 EV is expected to serve as a strong entry point into electric mobility for many Malaysian consumers.
