Chery has officially unveiled the 2026 Tiggo 8, marking the fifth generation of its popular SUV nameplate. The new model, launched in China, introduces a bolder design language, upgraded technology, and a more refined driving experience, reaffirming Chery’s commitment to innovation in the mid-size SUV segment. The Tiggo 8 is now available in four variants, priced between 99,900 and 129,900 yuan (around RM65,000 to RM85,000), and is positioned as a premium, family-oriented five-seater.
From the outside, the new Tiggo 8 stands out with its fresh interpretation of Chery’s large-family design philosophy. Buyers can choose between two distinct front-end looks — the “Tiger” and the “Leopard.” Both share an assertive presence, featuring split-type matrix LED headlights and bold grille designs. The Tiger adopts a tooth-edged motif, while the Leopard’s grille features sharp, blade-like elements. Generous use of chrome accents further enhances the SUV’s premium appeal.
Along the sides, the “Hunting Shadow” body design introduces a dynamic and streamlined profile, accentuated by blacked-out wheel arches, roof pillars, and chrome window surrounds that give it a sporty yet elegant appearance. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar and large “CHERY” lettering give the SUV a strong visual identity.
Inside, Chery has given the Tiggo 8 a complete makeover with two distinctive cabin themes — the “Dawn Forest Wrap” for the Tiger and the “Galaxy Jungle Dynamic” for the Leopard. Both variants feature large digital displays, including a 15.6-inch infotainment screen paired with a 13.2-inch secondary display and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
The system runs on Chery’s latest HMI 5.0 interface powered by a Qualcomm 8155 chip, supporting HiCar, Apple CarPlay, and CarLink integration. It also comes with a next-generation AI voice assistant that recognises regional dialects and supports multi-zone voice interaction.
Comfort and convenience are key highlights. The Tiggo 8 offers a 50W wireless charging pad, an eight-speaker sound system, and 256-colour ambient lighting. The seats are designed for long journeys, offering ventilation, heating, and massage functions. The rear also features foldable tables and a dual-bed layout option, perfect for long road trips. Cabin quietness is improved with ENC active noise cancellation, further adding to its premium feel.
On the safety front, the SUV comes equipped with Chery’s Falcon 500 driver assistance system, offering Level 2 autonomous capabilities such as highway pilot, remote parking, and memory parking functions across 16 features. A more advanced Falcon 700 system is already in development and is expected to bring city navigation and valet parking functions. The body structure is built with 80% high-strength steel, utilising a shotgun-style architecture for improved crash energy absorption and overall rigidity.
Under the bonnet, the Tiggo 8 offers two powertrains. The first is a 1.6-litre Kunpeng turbocharged engine paired with a Magna 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, producing 214hp and 320 Nm of torque. The second option, a 2.0-litre Kunpeng turbo engine mated to an 8-speed automatic, delivers a healthy 282hp and 430 Nm. The top-of-the-range AWD “Snow Leopard” model features an intelligent all-wheel-drive system with seven selectable modes to adapt to different terrains.
To enhance ride comfort and handling, the Tiggo 8 also incorporates a CDC magnetic suspension system that works in tandem with AI road-preview technology. This setup constantly adjusts damping characteristics in real time, improving stability and comfort on varying road conditions.
The fifth-generation Tiggo 8 represents a major step forward for Chery, offering a mix of design flair, advanced tech, and capable performance at an attractive price point. As the SUV segment continues to heat up in global markets, the new Tiggo 8 is shaping up to be one of the brand’s strongest contenders yet — a family SUV that blends sophistication with everyday practicality.
