BMW Malaysia has introduced the new BMW X1 sDrive20i xLine, expanding its esteemed lineup of compact Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) assembled within Malaysia. This latest variant marks the third generation of the BMW X1 series, boasting larger dimensions and a commanding presence on the road.

In terms of design, the X1 showcases a bold road presence with a prominent kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights, and distinctive lines. The wheel arches and 19-inch light alloy wheels underscore the characteristic BMW X look. It has larger dimensions, measuring 4,500mm in length, 1,845mm in width, 1,616mm in height, and featuring a wheelbase of 2,692mm. For reference sake, the Honda HR-V is 4,385mm long and 1,790mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,610mm. The luggage compartment offers an impressive maximum capacity of 1,527 litres.

Daihatsu has a rich history of producing microcars, vans, and trucks, and now it’s embracing the electric revolution, especially in the compact vehicle category.

One of the highlights is the Daihatsu Osanpo, an electric roadster that epitomizes the brand’s quirky and innovative design approach. The name “Osanpo” translates to “to walk” in Japanese, emphasising the ease and comfort of enjoying an open-air experience akin to a leisurely stroll. With a compact length of 3,395mm, the Osanpo promises a unique and compact driving experience. For comparison, the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is 3914mm, thus the Osanpo is a fairly small machine.

Subaru is bringing back a blast from the past with the revival of the TR moniker, last seen in 2006 when it stood for “Tuner Ready”. The 2024 WRX TR, however, takes a different direction, presenting a performance-focused model with significant upgrades and modifications for enthusiasts.

In the pursuit of enhanced performance, the WRX TR boasts a high-performance Brembo braking system with red 6-piston front callipers, red 2-piston rear callipers, larger pads, rotors, and an enlarged brake master cylinder. The TR trim is finely tuned for exceptional handling, featuring stiffer springs, revised damping rates, and a retuned steering rack. Mazda has unveiled the highly anticipated 2024 MX-5 Miata, also known as Roadster/Roadster RF in Japan. Referred to as the “ND3,” this latest iteration follows the successful 2019 update (ND2) and brings a plethora of enhancements and modernisations to this beloved convertible sports car.

Design and Exterior Upgrades

The 2024 Miata showcases brand-new LED headlights that seamlessly integrate the daytime running lights, a departure from the previous design where these lights were housed in the bumper. The taillights have also undergone subtle updates, and LEDs are now employed throughout, including for the turn signals. Notably, a radar sensor for adaptive cruise control with Smart Brake Support is now discreetly placed on the front grille’s left side.

The addition of the Aero Gray Metallic paint and new wheel designs available in 16- and 17-inch sizes further elevates the aesthetic appeal. These upgrades, coupled with improved safety features, are expected to be rolled out globally in the near future.

In a recent Annual General Meeting, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, a prominent corporate figure, successfully defended his position as the President of the Malaysian Motorsport Association (MAM). The challenge came from former national GP racer Shahrol Yuzy Ahmad Zaini, but Tan Sri Mokhzani emerged victorious, securing another term as the President.

Crucially, several other essential positions within MAM were also reaffirmed for the term 2023-2026. Dato’ Mohammed Rhiza Ghazi was re-elected as the Deputy President, overcoming a challenge from former racer Kuan Meng Heng. Additionally, Mr. S.N. Nanthan retained the role of Secretary-General, triumphing over sports promoter Adian Yein Khalid. Dato’ Razlan Razali faced a formidable challenge from Jed David but managed to hold onto the position of Treasurer.

Expressing his gratitude to the MAM members for their support and trust, Tan Sri Mokhzani emphasized the commitment of his team to carry out their responsibilities effectively. He stressed their dedication to ensure the success of various programs and long-term planning related to domestic sports initiatives. Tan Sri Mokhzani called for full support from all association members to bolster the nation’s motorsport and drive it towards greater strength and success.

The new lineup for the term 2023-2026 at the Malaysian Motorsport Association (MAM) includes Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir as President, Dato’ Mohammed Rhiza Ghazi as Deputy President, Mr. Neethianthan (S.N. Nanthan) as Secretary-General, and Dato’ Razlan Razali as Treasurer.
