JPJ Advocacy Program Targets Unlicensed Motorists, Emphasises Road Safety Education

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is set to intensify its advocacy program, emphasising the significance of valid licenses for motorists and motorcyclists, particularly among school students. Datuk Rospiagus Taha, the director-general of JPJ, announced plans to encourage 23,000 individuals aged 16 to 35, including students riding motorcycles without a license, to obtain their driving licenses within the next six months.

While JPJ acknowledges the challenges faced by students who rely on motorcycles for commuting to school, legal action will not be taken during this advocacy phase. Instead, the focus is on educating and creating awareness. Taha stated, “We will not take legal action because we are in the advocacy phase and at the same time, we also understand the constraints facing students who need to ride motorcycles to get to school.”

DBKL Announces Phased Implementation of GOKL Bus Charges for Non-Malaysian Citizens

In a recent announcement, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has disclosed plans to introduce charges for non-Malaysian citizens utilising the GOKL bus services. This new measure will be implemented in phases, affecting four routes in the city center, namely Route 01 (Green), Route 02 (Purple), Route 03 (Red), and Route 04 (Blue).

Cashless Payment Transactions:
Non-Malaysian citizens availing themselves of GOKL bus services will be required to make cashless payments. Accepted modes of payment include the Touch & Go card, QR code, credit card, or debit card.

MyKad Registration for Malaysian Citizens:
On the other hand, Malaysian citizens utilising the GOKL bus services must register their MyKad for authentication purposes to enjoy the continued free service.

Netizens Irked By Parking Prices At Newly Launched Exchange TRX

The Exchange TRX, a recently inaugurated shopping haven in Kuala Lumpur, is facing public backlash due to what many deem as exorbitant parking rates. The outcry has intensified, especially during weekdays, where the parking fees at Exchange TRX surpass those of other prominent malls, hotels, and even hospitals in the Malaysian capital.

On weekdays, the first hour of parking at Exchange TRX costs RM5, with each subsequent hour demanding an additional RM4. The accumulated cost of parking for two hours reaches a staggering RM9, a figure that has left many visitors astonished. After 5 pm, a flat rate of RM10 is imposed, with a maximum daily cap set at RM30. Weekend rates at Exchange TRX are marginally more palatable, with the first hour priced at RM3 and each subsequent hour also set at RM3.

BMW Trademarks “iM3” for Future Electric M3 Model

BMW is taking a significant step in its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, and recent trademark applications suggest that the nomenclature for its forthcoming EVs will maintain simplicity. Notably, the electric 5 Series will adopt the straightforward moniker of the i5. Now, BMW is gearing up for the release of an electric M3, with a trademark application filed for the name “iM3” in Germany.

While BMW had the option to follow its high-performance SUV naming convention, such as using “i3 M,” it appears the company is leaning towards the iM3 designation. Despite the potential pronunciation quirk in English, where it sounds like “I am three,” BMW has a history of unique nomenclature, evident in models like the i8.

BMW’s M division has been vocal about its commitment to electrification. It’s important to note that while the i4 M50 exists in the lineup, it falls under the M Performance category, not a full-fledged M Car.

Last summer, BMW disclosed its development of a four-motor powertrain, currently undergoing testing in the i4 M50. This advanced powertrain is expected to find its way into the upcoming electric M3, likely built on BMW’s new Neue Klasse platform.

As of now, BMW has not provided a specific timeline for the release of the electric M3 or the introduction of a new electric 3 Series. Expectations suggest a wait of at least a couple of years. However, if the recent trademark is any indication, the electric M3 might don the distinctive iM3 moniker when it finally hits the market.
