Toyota Motor Corp telah membuat rancangan untuk menangani masalah ujian keselamatan di syarikatnya Daihatsu. Mereka mahu membina semula kepercayaan dengan peniaga, pelanggan dan pekerja mereka. Toyota kini akan menyelia pensijilan model di Daihatsu dan bertanggungjawab dalam bidang seperti membuat produk baharu dan mendapatkan alat ganti.

Terdapat masalah apabila mendapat tahu Daihatsu menipu dalam ujian keselamatan. Ini menyebabkan Daihatsu menghentikan pengeluaran kereta buat sementara waktu, dan kerajaan berkata mereka mesti melakukan ujian yang betul pada masa hadapan. Pemimpin baharu Daihatsu, Masahiro Inoue, memohon maaf atas apa yang berlaku dan berjanji untuk membuat Daihatsu lebih baik.

Following a safety testing scandal at its subsidiary Daihatsu, Toyota Motor Corp has announced measures to regain trust among dealers, customers, and workers. Daihatsu’s new president, Masahiro Inoue, stated that Toyota will oversee model certification at Daihatsu, taking a leadership role in various areas including product development and procurement.

The scandal involved allegations of widespread cheating on safety testing, leading to production halts and a government order for proper tests and prevention measures. Inoue, who previously oversaw Toyota’s business in South America, apologised for the misconduct and vowed to revive Daihatsu.

In addition to oversight by Toyota, Daihatsu aims to improve communication among ranks, prioritise safety over market share, and change the basic way people work within the company. Toyota has also taken internal actions, with 10 former Daihatsu management members returning their bonuses for the financial year 2023.

The returned bonuses include those of former chairman Sunao Matsubayashi, former President Soichiro Okudaira, and executive vice president Hiromasa Hoshika. Director Yusuke Takeda and Toshinori Edamoto will return 50%, while other chief officers will return between 10% to 50%.

Furthermore, Daihatsu announced the abolition of the job titles of Executive Manager and Deputy Executive Manager to streamline reporting structures, following an earlier decision to abolish the position of Chairman. These measures aim to address the procedural irregularities and foster a culture of compliance and accountability within Daihatsu.

Pada Februari, Toyota Motor menghadapi penurunan 7% dalam jualan global berbanding tempoh yang sama tahun lepas. Sebab utama di sebalik penurunan ini ialah penurunan ketara dalam jualan di China, pasaran kereta terbesar di dunia, di mana jualan jatuh sebanyak 36%. Faktor yang menyumbang kepada penurunan ini termasuk masa cuti Tahun Baru Lunar dan persaingan tegang dalam pasaran yang membawa kepada perang harga.

Walaupun menghadapi kesukaran di China, Toyota mengalami peningkatan sebanyak 16% dalam jualan A.S. dan kenaikan 14% dalam jualan Eropah untuk Februari. Bagaimanapun, jualan domestik di Jepun merosot sebanyak satu pertiga disebabkan pemberhentian pengeluaran di Daihatsu, unit kereta kecil Toyota, yang turut menghadapi kerosakan pada reputasinya daripada skandal ujian keselamatan yang dilaporkan hampir setahun lalu.

Daihatsu Motor, a unit of Toyota Motor, is expected to incur losses exceeding 100 billion yen (around RM3.2 billion) due to the safety test scandal that recently surfaced. The estimate includes potential costs from a factory shutdown, compensation to suppliers, and additional expenses related to investigations and safety tests. Daihatsu has temporarily halted production in Japan, and although shipments in Indonesia and Malaysia have resumed, the company faces challenges in negotiating compensation with suppliers and supporting affected dealerships. If the scandal’s impact leads to consolidated losses, it would mark Daihatsu’s first such losses in 30 years.

Daihatsu kini berhadapan dengan krisis besar kerana mengisytiharkan penangguhan sementara semua penghantaran kenderaan, sama ada di dalam negara atau antarabangsa. Keputusan ini dibuat susulan penyiasatan yang mendalam ke atas ketidaknormalan ujian keselamatan, skandal yang mengejutkan industri automotif.

Kontroversi ini bermula pada bulan April, apabila pertama kali didedahkan bahawa Daihatsu terlibat dalam amalan penipuan berkaitan ujian keselamatan langgar, khususnya berkaitan dengan permohonan kelulusan penguatkuasaan bagi empat model. Daihatsu, the renowned Japanese automaker, finds itself in the midst of a significant crisis as it declares a temporary suspension of all vehicle shipments, both domestically and internationally. This decision comes in the wake of a damning investigation into safety test irregularities, a scandal that has sent shockwaves through the automotive industry.

The unfolding controversy dates back to April, when it was first revealed that Daihatsu had engaged in fraudulent practices related to crash safety tests, specifically concerning regulatory approval applications for four models. The focus of the investigation centred on door trim issues that failed to meet safety standards in a side impact test, affecting a staggering 88,000 units. Subsequently, in May, Daihatsu publicly admitted to irregularities in certification procedures for side impact collision tests involving hybrid versions of the Daihatsu Rocky and Toyota Raize.

The latest developments shed light on the gravity of the situation, with reports indicating the discovery of 174 new irregularities across 25 test items. This brings the total number of fraudulent cases to a staggering 238. The affected models include those produced under the Daihatsu brand and supplied to major players such as Toyota, Mazda, Subaru, and notably, Perodua.

One of the highlights is the Daihatsu Osanpo, an electric roadster that epitomizes the brand’s quirky and innovative design approach. The name “Osanpo” translates to “to walk” in Japanese, emphasising the ease and comfort of enjoying an open-air experience akin to a leisurely stroll. With a compact length of 3,395mm, the Osanpo promises a unique and compact driving experience. For comparison, the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is 3914mm, thus the Osanpo is a fairly small machine.

The Daihatsu Crash Gate scandal last month revealed a number of irregularities about the Japanese car maker. The scandal was hugely embarrassing for the company and for its parent company Toyota.

But the company is committed to eradicating any and all forms or irregularities from its business, according to a report uploaded to its website.

In side-collision safety tests for over 88,000 small cars, the majority of which were sold under the Toyota brand, Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corp, rigged part of the door, the companies said in a statement to Reuters yesterday.

According to them, the door trim on the affected vehicles had been altered with a “notch” to reduce the chance that the door inside could break with a sharp edge and hurt an occupant during testing when the side airbag deployed.
