GoCar

GoCar Malaysia, a leading on-demand mobility-as-a-service platform, has forged a strategic partnership with Yinson GreenTech to introduce the Ora Good Cat electric vehicle (EV) through the GoCar Share program. This collaboration between GoCar and YGT’s EV leasing business arm, drivEV, underscores their joint commitment to expanding access to the EV experience and driving EV adoption in Malaysia.

The Ora Good Cat EVs will initially be available for GoCar Share (Round Trip) bookings at select locations in Klang Valley city centres, including Berjaya Times Square, The Linc, Lalaport KL, Eco Ardence, Eco Grandeur, and GoCar Malaysia PJ. Users can enjoy the Ora Good Cat experience at an affordable rate of RM23.90 per hour, with complimentary access to all standalone AC charging stations within YGT’s chargEV network. Additionally, customers can unlock increased savings with longer booking durations, with discounts ranging from 10% to 15% based on the length of the rental period.

With the duty-free incentive for fully electric vehicles (EVs) to start next month, there may be many who are wondering if they should switch to such vehicles. While the exemption of all duties and taxes will mean a lower price, don’t expect prices to drop to the same as a Nissan Almera Turbo just because they are duty-free. EV technology is still young and therefore expensive, which is why manufacturers hope governments will help by making them more ‘affordable’.

For those who are thinking of getting one, you can experience ownership for a short while with GoCar’s new GoEV programme. This programme, which requires first signing up as a GoCar member, offers affordable EV access with car-sharing and subscription options. It is available to all fully licensed drivers aged 18 and above.

The members can select their preferred GoEV Share or GoEV Subs plans which have 25 units of Nissan LEAF fully electric vehicles. The sharing option is currently available only for round-trips (pick-up and return at the same zone) and short-term use – by the hour or by the day. Rates start from RM24.90 per hour or RM249 per day. From now until January 31, 2022, there will be a 25% reduction on rates for all GoEV Share bookings.

The GoEV programme will initially be offered in the Klang Valley where 3 GoEV zones are already in operation. Another seven will be added before this year ends.

“Global warming is at the tipping point and the negative effects of climate change will continue to perpetuate for decades. As a top contributor to greenhouse gases emissions, the transport sector must transition to full electrification, which studies have shown significantly reduces the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of GoCar Malaysia.

EV experience for more Malaysians
“Malaysia still has a long way to go to catch up on EV adoption and infrastructure. However, we believe that through car-sharing and subscription, we can help encourage mass adoption. We are so excited to be bringing affordable EV access to the general public. This way, everyone – not just the privileged few – can experience the EV lifestyle,” he added.

Longer terms also available
Those who want a longer duration to experience what it is like to live with an EV can opt for a 36-month subscription at RM2,299 per month. These rates are inclusive of roadtax, insurance, regular servicing and a wall box home charger to allow more efficient recharging.

To ease any potential range anxiety for car sharing customers, GoCar is also providing complimentary ChargEV cards in each vehicle, which will give users access to almost 300 charging stations nationwide. Charging stations at the GoEV zones are free to use for all GoEV customers.

FIRST DRIVE: 2019 Nissan Leaf – “Simply Electrifying”

GoCar Malaysia – an on-demand app-based platform that offers ‘mobility-as-a-service’ – is running the GOLADIES campaign which provides free GoCar Garage trials with upgrade options to encourage more women drivers to experience the benefits of its digital car service and maintenance solution.

Using the GoCar App, the first 300 women customers to apply the relevant promo codes will receive a free or upgradable pit-stop oil change service (only premium Total or Shell branded oils).

The promo codes are as follow:
“PITSTOP1” for Mineral Oil service package, totally free (normal price RM98)
“PITSTOP2” for Semi-Synthetic Oil service package for only RM30 (normal price RM128)
“PITSTOP3” for Fully-Synthetic Oil service package for only RM100 (normal price RM198)

They can also enjoy having their car serviced without needing to take time off work or leave their homes. GoCar’s GoValet door-to-door delivery service will be available for free during the campaign period. Other benefits include free 2-hour use of a GoCar vehicle, free car wash and sanitisation and a free 31-point vehicle inspection to ensure their vehicle is in tip-top condition. This would be particularly useful now that many people are keen on making long trips after over a year of restrictions.

The one-time-only promo codes must be used between  October 21 and November 30, 2021, but customers will have until December 31, 2021 to make their service appointments. The GOLADIES campaign is available only within the Klang Valley area. Vehicles will be serviced at the GoCar Garage Hub in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

“GoCar Garage is the latest offering in our increasing focus on mobility-as-a-service to harness technology to improve customer experiences. We understand that car servicing is generally not an enjoyable experience, and the prospect of unexpected costs can be unsettling. For women, there also tends to be greater concerns about being overcharged or taken advantage of, which is why our GoCar Garage solution is ideal for them,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of GoCar Malaysia.

“With our seamless end-to-end platform, they can complete the entire servicing process with just their mobilephones. Furthermore, they can be assured of OEM-level service excellence as our technicians are trained to work on any make and model of passenger vehicle,” Mr. Wong added. “More importantly, we are the only third-party car service centre to provide upfront quotations for pre-approval so they can rest assured of full transparency in our pricing.”

Through the GoCar mobile app, customers can easily schedule and confirm their service appointments, select or request required services, make payments and arrange for door-to-door delivery, anytime and from anywhere. In addition to the 45-minute oil change, other services include battery inspection and replacement, tyre services, air conditioning repair and maintenance, brake repair and maintenance, engine cooling system and replacement, electrical diagnosis as well as body and paint repairs.

The mobile app tracks all requested services and generates quotations to mitigate any possibilities of unapproved mark-ups. Furthermore, these cost breakdowns will only be generated if the technicians think a procedure is required after inspection. Work will only begin after customers give their confirmation and approval.

Everyone has to do their part in fighting COVID-19 and the simplest way you can help is to just stay at home for the next two weeks (and it doesn’t cost you money). Businesses too are trying to help, even though many have been affected by the challenging conditions over the past year. But those that can help are doing so and one of them is GoCar, the on-demand mobility platform that offers ‘cars-as-a-service’ solutions.

To support COVID-19 vaccination efforts, GoCar is collaborating with the Kampung Tunku ADUN in Selangor to offer free shuttle service for seniors (60 years or older) and persons with disabilities. Available until August 31, 2021, the GoVax free shuttle service is offered to senior citizens and persons with disabilities who do not own private vehicles or who have difficulties accessing public transportation.

They can use the ‘GOVAX’ promo code which will get them the first 3 hours free for round-trip bookings. However, they need to make their booking at least 7 hours in advance so booking the day before would be a good idea.

GoCar GoVax Klinik Rakan Medic Petaling

Available within Petaling district
The service is currently within the Petaling district (which includes Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, parts of Shah Alam and Kota Damansara) and will provide free transport to and from the designated vaccination centres at Hospital Shah Alam, Klinik Rakan Medik Petaling Jaya and the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre. The service is available for both first and second vaccination appointments if within the offer period.

“Since the pandemic hit, we have been looking for ways to do our part and help reduce the COVID-19 impact, be it by providing free car usage to healthcare frontliners during the first Movement Control Order (MCO) or by extending more savings to customers through multiple special offers,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of GoCar Malaysia.

“Now, we are expanding support to senior citizens and people with disabilities. We are delighted to partner with YB Lim, who has been tireless in championing the predicaments that these underrepresented groups face in getting around, which will hamper their ability to get inoculated,” he said.

GoVax Shuttle Service

“I am delighted to partner with GoCar in this GoVax initiative to reduce barriers and ensure these high-risk groups are sufficiently vaccinated. A key factor in making sure public health policies succeed is inclusivity. Senior citizens and people with disabilities are high-risk groups in the sense that they are more susceptible to COVID-19 and have a higher mortality rate. However, they might decide to forgo vaccination due to mobility or transportation issues,” added YB Lim.

The company is also offering free three-hour usage of passenger vehicles for residents in Klang Valley and Penang. GoCar members and passengers can have peace of mind as all GoCar vehicles are sanitised on a frequent and regular basis.

How to get the free service
Contact the GoVax taskforce at least three days before the scheduled vaccination appointment by calling the 24/7 hotline 1 300-30-2633. Slots are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be asked to provide your name, IC number, mobile phone number and address for verification and coordination. Confirmation will be given and the person should be ready half an hour before the scheduled pickup time with IC/MyKad and mobilephone and proof of vaccination appointment.

The National Vaccination Program in Malaysia is free of charge.

GoCar Malaysia, the on-demand car sharing platform which began in 2015, has added a sportscar category to its subscription programme, GoCar Subs. The programme is an alternative to the traditional car ownership model and avoids the hassle of long-term loans and other ownership concerns, especially significant depreciation costs.

To start off, the new category offers two Subaru sports models – the 200 bhp BRZ and 264 bhp WRX. Both are well known among enthusiasts and through GoCar, there is now an opportunity to ‘own’ them without being locked-in to long-term loan repayments and depreciation of the vehicle over time.

3 plans from 1 year to 3 years
Instead, customers can choose from three subscription plans – a 1-year package at RM3,299 per month;  2-year plan at RM2,999 per month; or 3-year plan at RM2,699 per month. Unlike a conventional hire-purchase (H-P) loan, a downpayment (which is usually quite high for such cars) is not required. Instead, GoCar Malaysia asks for a security deposit equivalent to 2 months’ subscription fees. As it is a deposit, it will be refundable at the end of the term.

The good thing about subscription plans is that all motoring costs are covered, except for fuel, parking charges, fines and other costs not related to the car. This means that there is no need to also pay for the roadtax, insurance, servicing costs and replacement of wear and tear parts. They are all covered in the monthly fee.

GoCar Malaysia’s subscrptions plans cover a wide range of models for different budgets, and the rates cover all motoring costs too.

Mileage limit applicable
There is, however, a special condition which would not be imposed if you took a H-P loan. One of them is a mileage limit of 1,650 kms a month or 19,800 kms a year. This may be okay for most people if the car is driven for leisure rather than daily commuting but if more mileage is needed, there is the option of extending it for RM300 a month for an additional 2,500 kms, or RM800 a month for unlimited mileage.

Should the car be driven into Singapore (when it is possible to do so), there will be a charge of RM8 a month. Driving a Malaysian-registered car in Singapore also means that the insurance coverage must include passenger liability and GoCar Malaysia offers this as an option.

‘One Price’ structure
With the addition of the new category, GoCar Subs now has 6 categories to meet the needs of a wide range of customers. Each category offers a streamlined ‘One Price’ structure ranging from RM799/month for the Econ category to RM2,299/month for the Luxe category and as mentioned earlier, RM2,699/month for the Sports category. Subscriptions plans are up to 36 months.

Besides the long-term plans, GoCar Malaysia also has short-term plans for those who just need a car or truck for a little while. Rates start from 17 sen a minute and depending on the plan taken, there can be a mileage limit or unlimited mileage, with no advance booking required. Return of vehicles can also be at any of the company’s locations in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur or Penang (terms and conditions apply).

UPDATE: The offer has been extended to April 28, 2020 which is the extended expiry date of the MCO.

The nurses, doctors and other healthcare personnel are the frontliners in the War Against COVID-19. They are working long hours and placing themselves at risk of being infected but they do so for the sake of the rest of us.

To help ease their daily challenges, GoCar Malaysia and Shell Malaysia are joining forces to make travel easier for healthcare frontliners. From now until April 14, 2020, GoCar is offering 200 Nissan Almera located at 127 Shell stations across Peninsular Malaysia for free to such personnel, with Shell providing RM30 vouchers to fuel their journeys.

Safer journey for frontliners
This initiative aims to make their commute from their place of stay to hospitals and other facilities easier and safer. Registrations can be done via GoCar’s website upon verification of healthcare personnel status online. Once successful, registrants will receive a GoCar promo code worth RM483 that can be used to book a Nissan Almera followed by a Shell Fuel e- voucher worth RM30, delivered via email, on a first come-first served basis.

Commenting on this collaboration, Alan Cheah, CEO of GoCar Malaysia, said: “At GoCar, we strive to act fast to give back to the community in any way possible, now more than ever. We are excited to work on this with one of our biggest partners, Shell Malaysia who shares and supports the same value too. As our frontliners continue working tirelessly for us, we are doing our part to keep them safe by helping them travel in isolation in GoCars with Shell supporting the necessary petrol needed.”

Since the outbreak began, GoCar has seen the need to ramp up frequency for cars to be cleaned and disinfected. “It is our main priority to ensure our cars are continuously cleaned for all GoCar members to use, especially in a time like this. This also means we have to monitor our own frontliners’ well-being closely and make sure they are safe on the job,” Mr. Cheah said.

GoCar

“Aside from taking body temperature and monitoring their health daily, all on-ground staff are given a comprehensive cleaning kit consisting of face masks, hand gloves, hand sanitisers, disinfectant sprays, and anti-bacterial fabric sprays to be used while on duty. They have also been placing and replenishing anti-bacterial wet tissues in each car for the convenience of all GoCar members to use whenever needed,” he added.

“Shell Malaysia is pleased to join forces with GoCar to offer a more convenient and safe way for our healthcare frontliners to travel. With our wide network of Shell stations across the country, we are able to make these GoCars easily available to our frontliners at 127 stations nationwide and, at the same time, fuel their journeys to where they must go. We are all striving to do what we can to heed the nation’s call to flatten the COVID-19 curve, and Shell is undertaking this initiative to ensure our nation’s health frontliners are able to  go well in their journeys to the battleground of this pandemic,” said Shairan Huzani Husain, MD of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd.

He added that while Shell continues to show support towards the healthcare frontliners, the well-being of its site staff and customers remain a priority. “Thanks to our own frontliners, Shell is able to give customers a peace of mind when they are at our stations,” he said, explaining that the company has been implementing several safety measures and prevention guidelines.
