TVR has released a teaser picture before the official launch of its first ever production vehicle since going under. According to the automaker, its entire team have worked tirelessly to ensure that the new vehicle is engineered to offer class leading strength, reliability and functionality, but still maintain lightweight and high performance attributes.

Based on the available image, we can see that extensive time and attention have gone into designing the intricate details of the interior. The gear knob, seems to have been machined out of a block aluminium or alloy, the switchgear arrangement seems very aircraft-like but the gauges and thier arrangement on the centre console is reminiscent of 1960s race cars.

What this could be then, is a TVR that has the best elements from the past and present mashed into a slender body that should be on par with the rest of the performance heavy hitters. The premise of this notion is the fact that the automaker has been working closely with Gordon Murray Design to complete the new car.

In case you didn’t know, Gordon Murray was the guy behind the legendary McLaren F1 supercar. It was his brainchild and proved to be the most powerful car of its era. In fact, It held the record for being the fastest production car in the world until recently. Murray has now opened his own design house in the hopes of creating another game changer.

Speaking of the new TVR, Murray, said, “We developed the new TVR as a product that builds on all the magic and excitement of our hand-crafted British motor cars of yesteryear. We combined this with the most rigorous engineering and assembly process design to ensure outstanding consistency, build quality and reliability.”

The car will be revealed in September at the Goodwood Revival Earls Court Motor Show and will only be sold in limited numbers. This year also marks TVR’s 70th birthday and its entry into the high performance vehicle market.

Regarding this, Les Edgar, chairman of TVR, said, “On the 70th birthday of our marque, we are entering a new era with a precisely engineered car that delivers exhilarating performance on road and track, as well as everything discerning customers expect of a car intended for everyday use.”

TVR has’t divulged much regarding the car or what it will be called. They will probably continue to keep mum till the actual release date, as a way to build more hype. Based on what we have gathered though, the new car should be an interesting addition to the current line-up of sports cars and should serve as an alternative to what we are used to seeing from the German and Italians.

Honda USA has just revealed what the upcoming 10th generation Accord will look like. Sporting a completely new look, the car is lower, wider and has a shorter length. It is said to have a lighter and more rigid body structure featuring an advanced new chassis design as well as two all-new turbo engines.

The signature chrome grille stretches across the entire front end and is flanked by the sophisticated 9-lamp LED headlights system. The front bumper has a two piece design with the blackened centre portion being integrated with the grille assembly. The contours provide the car with a muscular presence while the roof features a sleek and fluidic silhouette that tapers off toward the rear end.

The shorter overhangs, 10mm lower centre of gravity as well as the long and low hood give the entire design a more sporty look especially when viewing the car from the side. This should be to the liking of those who want a D-segment car but with the looks that allow it to fit in just about anywhere.

Like The Honda Civic, the Accord features angular rear taillights but features a broader and more grown up asthetic. Unlike the previous generation one, the new Accord has a hatchback design for the rear, which should help increase cargo carrying capacity.

Honda constructed the new Accord using the Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure that has a crash stroke front frame and tailor-tempered rear frame members that will improve crash energy absorption. The extensive use of adhesives for the car’s bodywork is to increase rigidity, noise and weight reduction.

Speaking of the new car, Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of the Automobile Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc, said, “We are redefining the Honda Accord for a new generation of buyers by bringing something unexpected that challenges the idea of what a mainstream sedan can. Even as we advance core values like great driving dynamics, safety performance and efficiency, the distinctive design of this all-new 2018 Honda Accord will help it appeal to both head and heart in equal measure.”

There are two engines to choose from, the first, a 1.5-litre turbo that can be mated to either a CVT or 6-speed manual, produces 192bhp and 260Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre turbo engine, produces 252bhp and is similar to what powers the Civic Type R. This particular engine replaces the 3.5-litre normally aspirated V6 in the previous generation Accord.

This 2.0-litre powerplant is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which Honda boasts takes greater advantage of available torque while maximizing quietness and efficiency during highway cruising. The hybrid variant gets two electric motors that aids a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle engine deliver fuel sipping driving behaviour. These motors utilize magnets that have no heavy rare-earth metals in them, which is a first in the industry.

Inside the cabin, occupants are treated to a panoramic front view thanks to the spacious construction of the A-pillars. The upholstery is tastefully done, complete with well crafted arm rests. Buttons and switches are arranged in a rather neat manner, which is what we have come to expect from automakers like Honda. It has even gone on to say that the meticulous attention to detail on their part has aided the switchgear throughout the cabin, to have the required tactile and visual quality feel.

The instrument cluster is made up of a slim 7-inch TFT display that is complemented by a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers physical volume and tuning knobs. These are welcomed additions considering how cumbersome it can be to turn down the audio volume on a conventional fully touchscreen system.

As far as safety tech is concerned, the new Accord comes with Honda Sensing® safety and driver-assistive technologies as standard. It comprises of the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow and new Traffic Sign Recognition.

Additional available driver-assistive technologies include Blind Spot Information, front and rear parking sensors, Cross Traffic Monitor and Driver Awareness Monitor. All variants feature a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with dynamic guidelines.

Then, there’s the standard stuff that comes with most Honda cars these days, which are Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control, Anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), advanced front airbags, driver and front-passenger side airbags and new driver and front-passenger knee airbags.

Over here in Malaysia, we wait with baited breathe for the launch of this new Accord. It may take a while before we hear any news about its local launch, but we are still hoping that Honda hastens the process.

Kia’s answer to the compact crossover segment leaders, is the Stonic, which is said to be an important model for the Korean manufacturer in Europe. That’s because this particular crossover segment accounts for 1.1 million vehicle sales in Europe alone, each year and that figure is predicted to balloon to more than double that by 2020.

The Stonic features relatively sharp styling and contours that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The signature Tiger nose grille is present but less prominent than those found on other model and features a minimalist look that adds detail to the entire assembly. The long swept LED headlights are a decent addition and lend a touch of class to the entire look of the front end.

The side profile blends the width of an SUV with the compact lines of a modern day hatchback, giving the Stonic a sleek sporty look that’s almost car-like. At the rear, it features a design reminiscent of the Hyundai i30. The curvature of the tail lamps and tailgate provide the vehicle with a broad and masculine look.

The Stonic’s design is a collaborative effort between Kia’s design houses in Europe and Korea, which the company says, allowed the body to incorporate sharp horizontal feature lines with softer sculpted surfaces. Built on a strong and lightweight platform, the Stonic is made from advanced high strength steel, which accounts for 51 percent of the body’s total material.

Speaking of the latest addition to the family, Michael Cole, Chief Operating Officer of Kia Motors Europe, said, “The Kia Stonic will be one of the most compelling new cars in this rapidly-expanding class, backed by Kia’s unique warranty, and the brand’s reputation for reliability, quality and contemporary design. As the segment expands, the Stonic looks set to become one of our best-selling cars.”

Typical of a modern day Kia, the interior is well laid out and features an infotainment system that is said to be user-friendly and convenient to operate on top of being compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Powering the new crossover will be a range of lightweight, turbocharged petrol and diesel engines that will be paired to a manual transmission. The lack of an automatic option is rather surprising but Kia believes this combination will offer maximum driver engagement and efficiency. The engine options are a turbocharged 1.0-litre T-GDI, 1.25-litre and 1.4-litre naturally aspirated MPI petrol engines as well as a 1.6-litre diesel one to complete the range.

Kia has tuned the steering and suspension setup to match the taste of European buyers and comes with a slew of safety tech, which include Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM). Specific functions of VSM include Torque Vectoring by Braking, Straight Line Stability, and Cornering Brake Control.

Buyers can choose from a selection of Kia’s DRiVE WISE Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which are Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition and Forward Collision Alert, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Departure Warning System. Thanks to a new fusion camera system, Stonic also offers High Beam Assist and Driver Attention Warning.

Apart from that, the Stonic’s ‘Targa’-style roof and two tonne paint scheme will provide potential buyers with several different colour combinations to choose from, 20 to be exact with a choice of five distinctive colours for the roof. Buyers in Europe can expect it to go on sale sometime in the next few months with Kia’s unbelievable 161,000km warranty package.

Honda has released a concept sketch of its upcoming 10th generation Accord. Based on what we can see, the new car should have a more muscular and sporty stance compared to the previous generation, which is a very good thing. Though the overall design language doesn’t detract much from that of its predecessor, the changes provide the silhouette more depth and the curvature of the front-end give the car a menacing look.

The all new 2018 Honda Accord will make its global debut in Detroit on July 14 and the Japanese automaker boasts that it will be the most ‘fun-to-drive, premium looking and dramatically styled Accord ever made’. Earlier in the month, it was revealed that Honda would be offering the car with two new direct-injection turbo engines that would be paired with either the new Honda-developed 10-speed automatic transmission, CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission. The hybrid variant should feature the company’s next generation two-motor hybrid powertain technology.

Honda says that it will reveal full details regarding the performance of these powertrains as well as the new design and technology at the launch event, state side. North America is an important market for the Japanese company because for the past four years, it has seen the Accord top the sales charts in the midsize sedan segment. And in the first five months of 2017, it has held the title of segment leader in sales and is the best-selling passenger car overall after the new Honda Civic.

Expect more details regarding the car very soon as Honda prepares to reveal the highly anticipated 10th generation Honda Accord for the global market next month.

The sixth generation Polo has finally been revealed and its the largest ever made in the nameplate’s history. Measuring 4,053mm long, 1,751mm wide and 1,446mm high, its slightly longer and wider than the Mk5 car, which gives rise to a wheelbase that is 92mm wider. This means that cabin space has increased as well and the boot space is 25 per cent more at 351 litres.

Built on the MQB platform, the reason for the increase in size was to achieve a more grown up look, something that previous generation cars lacked. It’s design borrows heavily from that of the Golf. The headlights, front grille and the curvature of the front bonnet seem very much like that of the Mk7 Golf, which isn’t bad thing. From the rear however, not much has changed with the exception of the rear LED taillights being a bit larger and blends better with the curvature of the bodywork.

Speaking of this, Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Brand, said, “The much better proportions create the framework for a grown-up, confident appearance of the sixth generation Polo – charismatic, progressive, contemporary and friendly. We have systematically capitalized on this realignment of dimensions to build a compelling compact car. A Polo with an expressive design which makes the compact – now as a four-door only – sportier, cleaner and unique within the brand range. This is a car that fits in perfectly with our times.”

The new Polo comes with a range of engines which include a two turbocharged and two non-turbocharged 1.0-litre engines, a turbocharged 1.5-litre and the range topping 2.0-litre TSI that will power the new Polo GTI. Some of them are able to run on natural gas, which is a first for the Polo. Transmission options range from a 5-speed gearbox to a 7-speed DSG one. There are also two turbo diesel engines that will be made available for the Polo, however, since it isn’t relevant for our market, we will leave it out.

Inside, the Polo features an all new interior including a new dashboard layout that feature modernized digital displays and controls as well as a whole host of connectivity options. The infotainment display comes with a 6.5-inch screen as standard, which should improve use. There’s also an Active Info Display feature that provides drivers with the relevant information as and when needed.

The car will be launched in a number of versions including Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, Beats special edition (featuring Beats sound system) and another that comes with the new Polo GTI. There are also a couple of Lifestyle packages available for the car. Most, depending on variant, will be feature packed with the latest safety tech that include Front Assist, Blind Spot Detection and Park Assist, apart from the usual ABS, EBD and the like.

Front Assist helps with emergency braking to avoid frontal collisions on highways, secondary roads and city streets. Coupled with the pedestrian monitoring system, the car is able to monitor the road ahead for obstacles and warn the driver and intervene brake assisting functions when it deems it necessary.

The blind spot detection system works in tandem with the Adaptive Cruise Control (radar guided) one to monitor the road ahead, keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, assist with rear traffic alert when reversing out of parking spaces (applies brakes when senses impending collision) and warns drivers of vehicles in their blind spot while changing lanes.

VW has made the Polo available worldwide with 14 different body colours and 13 dashpad colours to offer an array colour matching combinations. No word yet on when it will be made available in Malaysia, but it shouldn’t take very long.

The new Honda Accord which will be launched in the US, according to Honda, will be all-new, redesigned and re-engineered to ensure that the nameplate remains as the best-selling mide size sedan state side.

Compared to the outgoing car, the new one will have dramatically lower and wider appearance, will provide the car with a more athletic and aggressive stance.

The car will be offered with a number of powertrain options. The 1.5-litre direct-injection turbocharged engine that will be mated to a CVT or 6-speed manual transmission, the 2.0-litre direct-injected DOHC Turbo i-VTEC one, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission (an industry first for a front-wheel-drive vehicle) or a 6-speed manual one. The hybrid version of the Accord will be powered by a next-generation innovative two-motor hybrid system, which is able to operate without the use of a convetional automatic transmission.

“With these three advanced new powertrains, the tenth-generation Accord will be the most fun-to-drive, refined and fuel-efficient Accord yet,”said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of America Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Just as the new Honda Civic injected new energy into the compact car segment, we expect this all-new 2018 Accord will make people rethink the midsize sedan.”

Since its launch in 1976, more than 13 million Americans have purchased the Honda Accord and it was the first Japanese vehicle to be made in the US. It has been assembled in Honda’s Maryville plant in Ohio since 1982. Honda says that it will divulge more details about the latest iteration of its mid-size family sedan in the coming weeks. So, stay tuned and we will bring you more about the car as soon as we find out.

Honda has finally launched the facelifted version of its every popular city car, the Jazz. No drastic changes have been made for the updated car, which features subtle styling changes that include a new chrome front grille and a rear bumper. But this time around, Honda has made the Mugen pack, worth RM5,670 available as an optional extra. The package consists of front, sides, rear lip spoiler and tailgate spoiler that are of a sporty design.

That said, the Mugen pack will only be made available to order in October of this year but if you purchase the new car now, you can opt for the Urban (RM1,580) and Utility (RM820) packages to add a unique touch to the cheerful Jazz.

Two versions of the Jazz were launched simultaneously. There’s the standard petrol powered car and the halo one, the Jazz Hybrid, which is touted as the only such car in its class. The petrol car uses a 1.5-litre i-VTEC mill and CVT transmission found in its predecessor but its electrified brethren comes with a more sophisticated powertrain.

Under the hood is a brand new 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine that is mated to a (Shift by Wire) seven-speed dual clutch transmission and its integrated electric motor. This combination, according to Honda, will offer respectible power delivery and sporty character that is relatively unheard of in this category. Juice for the electric motor is supplied by a new Lithium-ion battery pack that can store more electrical energy than the one in the previous generation car but with half the size.

When pushed to the limit, with both the petrol and electric motor being active, the Jazz Hybrid is able to deliver a total output of 137bhp and 160Nm of torque which is similar to what a 1.8 or 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine is able to offer. All this power will be made available by the Sport Hybrid i-DCD unit once the S button is pressed, making power delivery a bit more peppy than its petrol powered equivalent. But, when driven frugally, the car is said to be able to offer a fuel consumption figure of 4.0-litre/100km.

The regular petrol powered Jazz comes in three different variants, S,E and V, which isn’t the case with the hybrid one (only one version is available). The E and V variants get DRLs, touch panel auto air-conditioning, reverse camera and 6.8-inch infotainment system. The top spec V car gets a bit more stuff such as dual-tone color alloy wheels, paddle shifters, cruise control and half leather seats.

The Jazz Hybrid however, gets a 3D Speed Meter design information display that shows Energy Flow, Sport Meter, Fuel Economy, Drive Info, Customization and Eco Display, as well as the same preimum stuff found in the base Jazz.

Safety tech for the cars include standard Brake Assist (BA), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), four airbags (6 airbags for V variant), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and Hill Start Assist (HSA).

As for body colour options, the Jazz comes in Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Carnival Red, Taffeta White and Crystal Black Pearl whereas the New Jazz Hybrid will be available in Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic and White Orchid Pearl.

The regular base car is priced at RM74,800 for S variant, RM81,000 for E variant, RM88,400 for V variant and the Jazz Hybrid is priced at RM87,500 (on the road with GST). All variants come with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty but the Hybrid gets gets an additional 8-years warranty for its battery pack.

TVR is back, and will be unveiling its first sports car at the upcoming Goodwood Revival, which will take place from September 8th to 10th of this year. Created in conjunction with Gordon Murray design, the 1200kg car is said to be powered by a 5.0-litre Cosworth developed V8 engine.

It will offer 400bhp per tonne and as such, should be able to cover the 0-100km/h dash in under 4 seconds. Little less is known about it for now, but the automaker has gone on to say that it will be a ‘sure-fire’ hit when it is eventually unveiled.

Speaking of the planned public launch, Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR said, “We are incredibly excited to be unveiling the new car at the Goodwood Revival. It’s the first time a global launch of a new car has occurred at the event, and it seems an entirely appropriate place for us to do it, with the marque’s motorsport heritage and an enthusiastic audience of dedicated car fans – and in our 70th anniversary year. After a series of secret private viewings organised for the benefit of existing customers for the new car, we know that we have a sure-fire hit on our hands, and very much look forward to seeing the public reaction in September.”

The new TVR, when launched at Goodwood, will be showcased along with a number of special classics from the glory days of the brand. The launch celebration is being carried out in September to commemorate the marque’s 70th anniversary, that’s right, TVR is now 70 years old.

This news has us excited because TVR has always been known as a sports car maker that loves to defy convention. It’s sole purpose of existence is to create absurdly powerful driver-focused cars that require serious concentration and lightening quick reflexes to tame.

Stay tuned, and we will let you know more about the car as soon as we find out.

Honda Malaysia has opened the order books for the new Jazz at all authorized dealerships in the country. The car is expected to hit showrooms sometime in the second quarter of this year followed by the Sport Hybrid variant, which is slated for launch in the third quarter of the year.

The Jazz was first introduced to Malaysian customers in 2003 and since then, the nameplate has sold more than 77,700 cars in the country. More than half of the sales were for the third generation car, which was introduced in 2014. Honda has managed to sell 4,400 cars from January to April of this year accounting for 13% of total revenue for the Japanese automaker in Malaysia.

And with the launch of the new car, Honda plans on continuing this sales momentum for the next few years. Honda says that the new car was developed after taking into consideration customer needs and feedback. As such, the new car is said to appeal to people of all ages who require practicality, versatility and attractive modern design. It will have a new chrome front grille, new front and rear bumper design, dual tone colour alloy wheels and LED DRLs.

The petrol powered car will have teh same 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine that is mated to a CVT gearbox that was developed under the company’s Earth Dreams Technology division. The Hybrid variant on the other hand, will be fitted with a new 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC powerplant that is fitted with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that is integrated with an electric motor. The system will improve efficiency, drivability and regenerative energy that was offered by the previous Jazz. Power output for the Hybrid Jazz is rated at 135bhp which is about the same as what you would’ get from higher displacement conventional engines.

The Lithium-ion battery pack, called the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU), has a higher capacity than that in the previous generation car and offers better performance. It has been under the boot floor and is able to offer 1.5 times the energy capacity of its predecessor while still managing to be lighter and more compact in size.

The Smart Entry and Push Start ignition systems will be fitted as standard on all Jazz variants. There’s also half-leather seats and a reverse camera system that will also be made available to customers. And like other Honda models, the Jazz will be loaded with safety tech that include, Brake Assist (BA), Anti-Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and Hill Start Assist (HSA) as well as 6 Airbags and ISO Fix.

So, if you are in the market for a new car and if the Jazz has caught your eye, visit any authorized Honda dealer for details or visit the automaker’s local site to learn more about the car.
