The new Mercedes-Benz CLS, is the follow up model to the original that broke convention. Merc’s CLS combines the silhouette of a sleek coupe with the practicality of a four door sedan. This new car retains the original’s recipe but forgoes the older sloped-style front end for a contemporary one with elongated teardrop shaped headlights and a large gaping front grille.

At the back, it’s design is similar to that seen on several of the automaker’s sports series models, which is fitting, considering who the car is aimed at enticing. Underpinning the aggressive body, are four-link front suspension and a five-link rear one. Buyers can also opt for the Air Body Control air suspension that offers improved, adjustable and adaptive damping.

For now, the new CLS will only offered with a choice of petrol and diesel V6 engines. Output of the diesel engine ranges from 286bhp and 600Nm of torque to 340bhp and 700Nm of torque. It benefits from CAMTRONIC variable valve-lift control and two-stage turbocharging. The petrol one, coupled with the electric motor develops 367bhp and 500Nm of torque.

Merc has taken the best tech of the S-Class and crammed it into the interior of this CLS. It has a fully digital display system that can be configured to suit different needs, a 64-colour ambient lighting system that changes colour when the climate control system is adjusted. Adding to that, the car is able to alter interior fragrance, lighting and temperature to suit different moods.

Available as standard are the usual range of driving assistance and safety systems that include the Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST, Speed Limit Assist and the occupant protection system PRE-SAFE®. Strangely enough, Pre-SAFE sound builds upon the others, by preparing ones’ hearing when it senses an impending collision.

If that isn’t enough, you can opt for the optional Driving Assistance Plus Package. It consists of Active Distance Control DISTRONIC, Active Steering Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and PRE‑SAFE® PLUS. Active Distance Control DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist.

Apart from this, the regular bells and whistles that include headlight beam adjustment and fuel efficient systems come as standard with the car. As of now, there only three variants that are available, which are the CLS 350d 4MATIC, CLS 400 4MATIC and CLS 450 4MATIC. We expect to see a number of other variants being added to the range in the near future.

Gordon Murray, the creator of the legendary McLaren F1 supercar, is currently hard at work designing something new that invokes the very traits that made the F1 such a success. Murray himself has announced that he is indeed working on a limited-run flagship vehicle that will utilize an innovative design language.

He also admitted that his new supercar will incorporate the same design and engineering principles that made the McLaren F1 an instant hit about 25 years ago. The car had an engine bay that was lined with gold, a three-seat cockpit layout and was constructed from lightweight materials.

“The new manufacturing business significantly expands the capabilities of our group of companies,” explained Professor Gordon Murray. “With our first new car, we will demonstrate a return to the design and engineering principles that have made the McLaren F1 such an icon.”

According to an article by The Drive, unlike the current crop of supercars, Murray’s creation won’t utilize heavy and complicated machinery and mechanicals, rather a more minimalist approach will be preferred. This is a similar philosophy to that which has served as the bedrock of Lotus Cars for decades.

This new supercar will be launched under Murray’s own car company called Gordon Murray Automotive. Vehicles built under this brand will be based on a new version of the company’s automotive product system called iStream. This platform can be used to manufacture low-volume vehicles for customers with deep pockets.

In depth details regarding performance figures are a bit sketchy at the moment but further details of the car will be released on Friday, 3rd November at ‘One Formula’ exhibition, celebrating 50 years of Gordon Murray car designs.

Polestar will be revealing its first ever vehicle in Shanghai on the 17th of October. It will be the first vehicle that Polestar, as a separate entity from Volvo, has designed and built from the ground up as a standalone electric performance brand.

This comes after an announcement made by parent company of both Volvo and Polestar, Geely, regarding its intentions to spin-off Polestar into is own sub-brand that specializes in building performance EVs.

Though Volvo will eventually turn into an EV manufacturer too, it’s main area of focus will be on building mainstream vehicles that the general public need, basically – a Volvo. The logic of this move is still unclear, because Polestar’s symbiotic relationship with Volvo can be likened to that of Mercedes-Benz and AMG.

Polestar’s wealth of knowledge on track has been incorporated into Volvos to produce vehicles that not only safe, but can handle just as well as their German rivals. That said, a separate entity called Cyan Polestar Racing still exists in Motorsport. It is effectively the remnant of the resulting buyout of Polestar by Volvo in 2015.

As such, how well Polestar is able to do without Volvo remains to be seen but we hope cross-platform sharing continues to take place because we have just gotten used to the idea of Volvos that offer incredible level of safety while having the ability of going head to head with a BMW M5.

MG, will be launching its new compact SUV soon, which the automaker says will mark an exciting new era of design for the company. The Chinese owned British automaker is looking to dip its toes into the hotly contested waters of the compact SUV segment with the MG XS.

The new vehicle will join the automaker’s MG3 and MG GS to offer UK customers a home grown alternative to the Japanese and Korean offerings. Sporting an angular look, the new design philosophy is based on what the automaker calls, ‘Emotional Dynamism’.

It has been said the new vehicle has been designed in a way that best expresses the company’s new design language that emphasizes the premium nature of the XS. Though not groundbreaking, the the curved lines and creases of the frontend do give the vehicle an interesting look.

The new face features an enlarged grill design that was inspired by the automaker’s older vehicles but modernized to have a more contemporary look. MG says that the larger grille is able to accommodate a bigger badge, which, for vanity purposes, helps show off the brand’s heritage that can be traced to the early days of the automobile.

Carl Gotham, Design Director of SAIC European Design Centre, said, “It’s a really exciting time for MG as it starts to roll out its new brand identity. Emotional Dynamism brings to the fore a premium feel to the new Compact-SUV with exceptional attention to detail throughout, such as the distinctive detailing on the ‘eye’ headlights and signature tail lights.”

“It has a level of detailing and range of impressive features you would not expect to find on a car of this size or price,” he later added.

MG is expected to divulge more details regarding the brand’s new design direction closer to the launch date of the new vehicle. The automaker has stated that it is confident that latest addition will be able to bolster its sales figures that are already up by nearly 83% year-on-year.

The British automaker can trace its roots back to 1924 and has produced some of the most stunning vehicles from the golden area of the automobile. Stay tuned and we will let you know more when further details are released regarding the MG’s design direction.

Skoda will be introducing the new Karoq to the European market soon. The design has changed somewhat but its fairly larger than the vehicle it replaces. The compact SUV measures 4,382 mm in length, 1,841 mm wide, and 1,605 mm high.

The vehicle has a wheelbase of 2,638 mm or 2,630 mm for the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version. Thanks to the increase in size, passengers now have 68 mm more legroom than before. When the back seats are fully upright, the luggage compartment offers 521 litres of space but that increases to 1,630 mm when the rear seats are folded down. If the need arises, the rear seats can be completely removed to offer more cargo space, turning the SUV into an MPV with a maximum capacity of 1,810 litres.

You can even pair your smartphone with the infotainment system by using the SmartLink+ platform which is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink.

As far as safety is concerned, the Karoq comes equipped with a whole host of tech that include Parking Assistant, Lane Assist, Blind Spot Detect, Front Assist with predictive pedestrian protection and Emergency Assistant that help improve safety. When hitched to a trailer, the Karoq can tow a payload of up to 2 tonnes and with the new trailer assistant, the system helps guide drivers while maneuvering and when reversing slowly.

Though the exact contours of the vehicle have yet to be revealed, Skoda syas that it is fitted with full LED headlights with clear-lens optics (optional) , the interior features LED ambient lighting and decor strips on the doors. The dashboard lighting can be set to one of ten different colours depending on what your prefer.

As of now, Skoda is offering the vehicle with four engine choices, two petrol and two diesel ones. The capacities are 1.0, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0-litres with power ranging from 115bhp to 190bhp. All engine variants are turbo-charged direct injection units that feature start-stop technology and brake energy recovery. All of them can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG gearbox with the exception of the 2.0-litre diesel, which only comes with the latter.

When equipped with the higher trim variants, the Karoq offers driver profiles that can be adjusted to alter driving dynamics. These modes are Normal, Sport, Eco, Individual and Snow and when the Off-road mode is selected while the AWD system is active, Skoda says that the setup will be better prepared to handle tough terrain.
