Nissan Frontier

Nissan’s introduction of the 2024 Nissan Frontier Hardbody Edition celebrates a feeling of nostalgia. This brand-new truck from the Frontier series pays homage to the storied Nissan Hardbody from the 1980s by merging vintage design cues with modern engineering to create a truck that will stand out both on and off the road.

The thrilling Hardbody Edition, which pays homage to the renowned pickup from the 1980s, is a feature of the 2024 Nissan Frontier. This historical replica has all-terrain tyres on 17-inch wheels that are modelled after the original design.

The Hardbody Edition package pays meticulous attention to detail, coating the bumpers, mirrors, door handles, and grille in sleek black paint, creating a unified and stylish appearance. The truck is further adorned with bold black graphics that prominently display the “4×4” logo on the front doors and feature a distinctive tailgate graphic featuring a cut-out “Nissan” logo, replacing the standard Nissan tailgate emblem.

In September 2017, Nissan organised a project to enable researchers to visit Brazil’s historic archaeology sites. Known as the “Nissan Expedition: In search of Brazil’s beginnings”, its objective was to contribute to culture and scientific research by exploring the wealth of Brazil’s historic rock paintings.

The expedition was done in 5 stages and the researchers got close looks at items found in exploring the country’s rock art sites. They also came across remains of campfires of people who lived in the Piauí sierra region 50,000 years ago.

Discovering Brazil’s heritage
The second edition of this activity took place this year, with explorers following Brazil’s Heritage Trail. It is thus known as the ‘Nissan Expedition – Following Brazil’s Heritage Trail’ and recently concluded at Chapada dos Veadeiros, the highest plain in Central Brazil, in the state of Goias.

For 3 days, the participants in a fleet of 16 Nissan Frontiers faced trails in the region known as Cerrado, a vast tropical savannah ecoregion in Brazil. Along the way, they explored a stunning landscape listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site while driving more than 1,000 kms in the state of Goiás and the Federal District.

Nissan Expedition Brazil

The expedition started in the city of Brasília, which is considered the world’s largest world heritage site (112.25 square kilometres) and is widely known for its modernist architecture and uniquely artistic urban planning. The adventurers also visited key historic and cultural sites, such as 308 Sul, the first superquadra (superblock) built following the Plano Piloto (the originally planned city) as well as the President JK Bridge and the Ministries Esplanade.

Visiting Brasilia, the planned capital city
The expeditioners also visited the Live Museum of Candanga Memory, which tells the story of the construction of Brasilia (named after the nickname given to the workmen who built the city) and Catetinho Museum, the first official workplace of the President of Brazil Juscelino Kubitschek, whose name is a reference to Catete, Brazil’s presidential palace before Brasília was built.

On the second day, the group learnt about the initiatives to protect the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and the region’s importance to the environment. They then toured the park with its outstanding scenic beauty and went around the region known as Almecegas.

At this location is an aerial attraction: the Flight of the Hawk – an 850-metre long, 100-metre high zip line that stretches across the Almecegas Range and the Sao Bento Plantation Belvedere. By the end of the day, they were at Almecegas, one of the park’s tallest waterfalls and known for its high quartzite walls.

Nissan Frontier put to the test
On the third day of the expedition, the group had an off-roading experience through the Cerrado region. Here, the toughness of the Frontier pick-up was put to the test. Needless to say, it passed with flying colours, demonstrating its robustness and capabilities.

After the off-roading experience at the Bellatrix reserve, the group headed for the Label waterfall, before facing more rough terrain and crossing some streams. Although swollen with the summer rains, the unbridged waters were crossed by the Frontiers that can cope with deep waters. The final stop was reached after climbing 1,200 metres to reach the Sao Joao d’Aliança range and see the expanse of the Cerrado region in Goias.

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM), together with Tan Chong Ekspres Auto Servis Centre (TCEAS), have announced an expansion of the ongoing recall campaign relating to the Takata Airbag Inflator module. The campaign, which is also undertaken by many other carmakers around the world, covers the Driver and Front Passenger Airbag Inflator module.

After investigations conducted by Nissan Motor, it has been found that there are approximately 11,971 units of Nissan vehicles in Malaysia which are affected and require replacement of the module. The affected models are listed in the chart below:

Nissan Takata recall

Current models not affected
ETCM stresses that other new Nissan models currently on sale at authorised Nissan outlets are not affected by this exercise, including the NP300 Navara which was launched in Malaysia in November 2015.

Customers of the affected vehicles will be notified by letter through TCEAS. They are advised to call the nearest TCEAS outlet for an appointment as soon as possible. Selected TCEAS outlets have extended operating hours and are open every day of the year, making it easier for customers to service their vehicles on weekends and public holidays, as well as to alleviate capacity surge during this recall campaign.

If you don’t get any notification
ETCM/TCEAS also understand that there may be some owners of affected vehicles who may not receive the notification letter as they may not be the original owners. Their contact details might not be with TCEAS and therefore they should contact a TCEAS outlet for clarification. Customers may also all the Nissan Customer Care Centre toll-free line at 1-800-88-3838 for assistance or visit www.nissan.com.my (click on ‘Owners’ tab followed by ‘Recall Campaign’) to find out if their Nissan vehicle is involved in this recall campaign.

Don’t ignore this very serious matter!
This being a very serious matter that can result in injury or death (if the replacement of the module is not carried out), action must be taken quickly. As at June 2019, TCEAS has completed 99,670 vehicles or 56% of Takata airbag inflator module replacements. All costs relating to this recall (labour and replacement parts) will be borne by the company.

Additionally, ETCM is also providing Takata Airbag Inflator Replacement for affected Nissan vehicles during Nissan Test Drive Carnival over 2 weekends of August 17/18, and August 24/25 at selected ETCM showrooms across the nation.
