Nissan Navara

Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has recently taken the wraps off the all-new Nissan Navara Black Edition, aimed at enhancing the aesthetics and features of the already popular VL and V variants within the Navara pick-up model range.

The Navara Black Edition features several key design elements, including a newly designed front grille cladding, door mirror covers, and over fenders, all finished in sleek black. In addition, the V variant comes equipped with gloss black 17-inch alloy wheels, while the VL variant maintains its distinctive black and polished 18-inch alloy wheels.

The striking blacked-out grille, previously exclusive to the flagship PRO-4X, enhances the appeal of the VL and V variants by giving them a refined yet rugged presence. This effect is further accentuated when paired with the impressive Quad-LED Projector Headlamps featuring C-shaped LED Signature Daytime Running Lights.

The sleek black theme extends to the sides of the vehicle, featuring gloss black door mirror covers alongside two-tone over fenders and alloy wheels with a matching finish.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is coming soon and for those planning to have a new vehicle to celebrate, Edaran Tan Chong Motor is offering some special deals. Selected models come with accessories packages worth up to RM10,150, and there’s still the sales tax exemption (except for pick-up trucks) which the government is allowing until June 30, 2022.

During the month of April and May, ETCM is also having a contest with RM50,000 worth of Lazada e-Vouchers to be won. Lucky purchasers of new Nissan vehicles will have a chance to win Lazada e-Vouchers (RM5,000 per winner. T&C apply). The e-voucher can be used for purchases on the Lazada e-commerce website which would be great for those who are doing Hari Raya shopping.

While some companies have indicated that their order bank has become quite full and ready stocks are not available right away, ETCM says it has anticipated the festive season demand and has prepared stocks for fast delivery. After all, the company has been selling cars to Malaysians since the 1950s and understands the market well.

For those interested in the Almera Turbo, a test-drive will provide an opportunity to experience its advanced technology, especially in the turbocharged engine. The high torque output gives strong acceleration but at the same time, fuel consumption can be up to 18.4 kms/litre as one owner proved. Those who test-drive the Almera Turbo will receive a Watsons Voucher worth RM30 in appreciation of their interest.

The ’Mothertrucker’ Navara has proven to be well suited for dual roles of personal transport as well as workhorse. There are five variants to choose from for different requirements and budgets, with prices starting from RM111,050.

Nissan owners, wherever in Malaysia they are,  are assured of aftersales services from Tan Chong Expres Auto Servis (TCEAS). Appointments can also be booked online using the DriveOn app available at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

All new Nissan vehicles come with a 5-year warranty covering manufacturing defects and other than the Navara, there is no limit on mileage travelled after registration. For the Navara, the mileage limit is 150,000 kms or 5 years, whichever comes first.

For customers who are not able to visit Nissan showroom, there’s the Nissan Online Showroom where information on the models and offers available can be found, and test-drives can also be requested. If a purchase decision is made at the Lazada Nissan Flagship store, a low-booking fee payment online is now available and a Sales Representative will assist in completing the purchase process.

How the new Nissan Almera Turbo is contributing to road safety

Towards the end of March, we previewed the new Nissan Navara and at that time, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) only showed one variant – the flagship Navara PRO-4X. But that is obviously not all there is to the range for the latest ‘Mothertrucker’, as ETCM nicknamed it. In fact, the range consists of 6 variants, all imported from Thailand in CBU (completely built-up) form with prices starting from RM91,900 and topping out at RM142,400 (for private registration in Peninsular Malaysia, excluding insurance).

Prices shown are for private registration and do not include insurance premiums.

The wide range is intended to cater to different budgets and usage requirements. While the Navara is usually advertised as a lifestyle machine for private use, it is also just as capable as a workhorse. However, those who buy it for business purposes are likely to use it in rough conditions and won’t care much for fancy features. All they want is a tough, well-built truck that can haul heavy loads and keeps running instead of spending downtime in a workshop. All variants of the new Nissan model come with a warranty of 5 years or 150,000 kms (whichever comes first).

For such commercial customers, ETCM offers two lower-priced variants with simpler equipment and 6-speed manual transmission, one of which is a single cab. While the 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine is the same for all variants, the one for these two variants has different tuning which produces an output of 163 ps/403 Nm. The engine for the other four variants produces 190 ps/450 Nm and all these variants have a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Apart from the bolder, more dominating appearance of the front end, the new Navara (except for the Single Cab) has a new rear Multilink Suspension with dual-rate coil springs that reduce body toss motion; Electronic Locking Rear Differential that allows the left and right wheels to rotate as a unit; Tailgate Assist that helps to lighten opening and closing operation; Integrated Rear Bumper Step that makes bed access easier; and acoustic laminated glass for the front windscreen and front windows to make things quieter in the cabin.

Like all modern pick-up trucks, active safety is comparable to what you get in a passenger car. There’s ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist, Vehicle Dynamic Control and Traction Control, an Active Brake Limited Slip Differential, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control. The last three systems would be especially useful during off-road driving.

For the Navara PRO-4X Auto, VL Auto and V Auto variants, active safety goes on step further with Nissan Intelligent Mobility advanced driver assistance features. These systems monitor the road ahead and warn the driver if there is a possible collision risk. If the driver fails to do the right thing – ie decelerate, brake or take avoiding action – then the computer will apply the brakes automatically to prevent the collision.

Other assistance features include an Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and Off-Road Mode,  Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert which helps during reversing out of a parking bay. And should a tyre lose air, the driver will be made aware of it, which can be useful when driving off-road.

For those who want to personalise their Navara further, ETCM has a range of exclusive factory-fitted accessories and they come with a 3-year/100,000 km warranty. There are four packages, ranging in price from RM3,200 to RM10,950, depending on the variant. The good thing is that this extra cost can be included in the total financing amount and repaid over the same number of years for the H-P loan. Incidentally, ETCM has a Flexi Financing promotion where the monthly instalment for the Navara Single Cab can start at RM670.

Following a 3-day group test in Sweden against 4 other nominees, the Ford Ranger emerged victorious in the challenge for the International Pick-up Award 2020 (IPUA). The latest Ranger with its technical and safety advancements, was up against the Mitsubishi L200 (Triton in Malaysia), revised Nissan Navara and Renault Alaskan, and Toyota Hilux. The Ranger, manufactured in Thailand, previously won the IPUA in 2013.

The fifth running of the biennial International Award for 1-tonne Pick-up trucks ‘was a very close run competition’, according to Jarlath Sweeney, Chairman, International Van of the Year Jury. Voted by 18 members of the International Van of the Year jury, just 6 points separated the top two contenders in the final tally. The Ranger scored 78 points to the 72 received by the Mitsubishi L200, with the Toyota Hilux coming in third.

Mitsubishi Triton
Only 6 points separated the Mitsubishi L200 (Triton) from the Ranger.

“Jury members adjudged the Ranger to be the best all-rounder and noted that it’s a bestseller too, as the previous version together with this revised model dominate the European marketplace with almost 30% share of the IPUA 1-tonne segment. So the public recognize its merits also! Marks were allocated on each vehicle based on powertrain efficiencies, load volume and capability, driver and passenger comfort and safety aspects, as well as low total cost of operation from a business point of view,” added Jarlath.

Commenting on the ongoing success of the Ranger from both the press and public, Hans Schep, General Manager Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe said: “We are delighted that the Ford Ranger has been recognised by the IPUA jury for a second time, which is a testament to the enduring appeal of Europe’s favourite Pick-up. With its all-new powertrain and enhanced capability – not to mention the exciting new Raptor model – the Ranger is now moving the game on once again.”

VW Amarok
The Volkswagen Amarok was the first winner of the International Pick-up Award when it began in 2011.

Previous IPUA winners have been the Volkswagen Amarok V6 (2018), Nissan NP300 Navara (2016), Ford Ranger (2013, and Volkswagen Amarok (2011).

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM), together with Tan Chong Ekspres Auto Servis Centre (TCEAS), have announced an expansion of the ongoing recall campaign relating to the Takata Airbag Inflator module. The campaign, which is also undertaken by many other carmakers around the world, covers the Driver and Front Passenger Airbag Inflator module.

After investigations conducted by Nissan Motor, it has been found that there are approximately 11,971 units of Nissan vehicles in Malaysia which are affected and require replacement of the module. The affected models are listed in the chart below:

Nissan Takata recall

Current models not affected
ETCM stresses that other new Nissan models currently on sale at authorised Nissan outlets are not affected by this exercise, including the NP300 Navara which was launched in Malaysia in November 2015.

Customers of the affected vehicles will be notified by letter through TCEAS. They are advised to call the nearest TCEAS outlet for an appointment as soon as possible. Selected TCEAS outlets have extended operating hours and are open every day of the year, making it easier for customers to service their vehicles on weekends and public holidays, as well as to alleviate capacity surge during this recall campaign.

If you don’t get any notification
ETCM/TCEAS also understand that there may be some owners of affected vehicles who may not receive the notification letter as they may not be the original owners. Their contact details might not be with TCEAS and therefore they should contact a TCEAS outlet for clarification. Customers may also all the Nissan Customer Care Centre toll-free line at 1-800-88-3838 for assistance or visit www.nissan.com.my (click on ‘Owners’ tab followed by ‘Recall Campaign’) to find out if their Nissan vehicle is involved in this recall campaign.

Don’t ignore this very serious matter!
This being a very serious matter that can result in injury or death (if the replacement of the module is not carried out), action must be taken quickly. As at June 2019, TCEAS has completed 99,670 vehicles or 56% of Takata airbag inflator module replacements. All costs relating to this recall (labour and replacement parts) will be borne by the company.

Additionally, ETCM is also providing Takata Airbag Inflator Replacement for affected Nissan vehicles during Nissan Test Drive Carnival over 2 weekends of August 17/18, and August 24/25 at selected ETCM showrooms across the nation.
