The Novitec N-Largo S is a limited-edition widebody version created by German automotive refinement specialist Novitec for the Ferrari 812 Superfast. Limited to just three vehicles worldwide, this special edition has already been completely sold out.
Exterior Enhancements
The N-Largo S features a widened body, achieved through lightweight yet durable carbon-fibre components. The wider front fenders and flares at the rear axle add 14cm to the car’s width compared to the standard Ferrari 812 Superfast, enhancing its aerodynamics and visual appeal. The rear end is redesigned with an integrated rear spoiler in a striking and aerodynamically efficient ducktail design.
Novitec needs no introduction, but for the uninitiated, the company specialises in making unique changes for well-known Italian automakers including Ferrari, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Lamborghini. Novitec’s recent take was with a Ferrari 812 Competizione. Not so much on the visual side, but more performance-focused upgrades were done.
In May 2021, Ferrari unveiled the 812 Competizione, which coincidentally holds the distinction of being Ferrari’s most performance-focused grand turismo to date. This model follows in the footsteps of the F12TDF.
To own a Rolls-Royce would be a dream for most people but for those who can make their dreams come true, personalisation of the car is now a very common thing. Rolls-Royce says that virtually every car they have sold in recent years has had some degree of personalisation provided by their Bespoke division.
Some owners may prefer to have the services of other companies and for this, they can contact SPOFEC, a unit in the NOVITEC Group which can refine the cars further. They can now offer their services for the latest Ghost, the sportiest interpretation of a Rolls-Royce sedan ever. In fact, SPOFEC works only on Rolls-Royce cars, which is how its name came about (SPirit OF ECstasy).
The company has developed a customization range for the car which gives the Ghost even greater driving dynamics and an even more extravagant appearance. For example, SPOFEC engine tuning raises the output of the twin-turbo 12-cylinder engine to 685 bhp (114 bhp more) and also bumps peak torque to 958 Nm. This cuts the sprint time from 0 – 100 km/h to 4.5 seconds although the top speed remains limited to 250 km/h.
To match the improved driving dynamics, SPOFEC gives the new Ghost an even more athletic design with carbonfibre bodywork components that feature sporty and elegant styling. SPOFEC forged wheels with a diameter of 22 inches developed in cooperation with US rim manufacturer Vossen fill out the wheel wells perfectly. With the SPOFEC suspension module, the ride height is lowered by about 40 mm.
A standard peak output of 571 bhp/850 Nm mean that there are quite a few reserves in the 6.75-litre engine of the Ghost. SPOFEC engine specialists have programme the plug-and-play N-TRONIC module for the electronic engine control unit which introduces new mapping for injection and ignition. There is also a moderate increase in the boost pressure.
SPOFEC optionally underscores these significantly improved dynamics with a more thrilling sound as well. To this end, the company developed a stainless sport exhaust with actively controlled exhaust flaps. It enables the driver to select either a decidedly discreet or a very powerful exhaust note from inside the cockpit by remote control.
For a sporty-elegant touch, the designers at SPOFEC developed tastefully styled and aerodynamically efficient bodywork components for both wheelbase variants of the Ghost. The components are produced from lightweight yet high-strength carbonfibre.
The SPOFEC-designed front fascia gives a fresh face with large air intakes making for a visually striking appearance. The front end also generates less front-axle lift at high speeds and thus further optimizes the directional stability. The new aerodynamic-enhancement component optionally also comes with LED position markers and perfectly transitions to the likewise new SPOFEC front fenders. These fenders feature a distinctive air outlet behind the wheel arch on either side.
The wheels have 9 pairs of twin-spokes extending all the way to the outer flange, characterizing the SPOFEC SP2 design. In sizes 9.5Jx22 at the front and 10.5Jx22 on the rear axle, they are fitted with tyres of sizes 265/35 ZR 22 and 295/30 ZR 22 and optimally fill out the available space under the wheel arches.
The SPOFEC CAN-Tronic suspension module is specifically calibrated to work with the 22-inch tyres. At speeds up to 140 km/h, the new programming of the Ghost’s air suspension lowers the vehicle by about 40 mm compared to the production car. At higher speeds, the vehicle body automatically reverts to the standard level.
NOVITEC, the German tuning and customising company, is well known for its widebody conversions apart from enhancements to many different models. Its latest offering is the N-LARGO, adapted from the McLaren 720S Spider and limited to just 15 units worldwide.
This widebody version, which is particularly light, makes generous use of carbonfibre with forged elements that give the open-top two-seater a particularly custom appearance. The company also developed tailor-made high-tech forged rims specifically for the enlarged wheel arches in cooperation with American wheel manufacturer Vossen. The staggered combination of 20-inch and 21-inch wheels on front and rear axles puts even more emphasis on the wedge shape of the sportscar.
Emotive design shaped in wind tunnel
The emotive design, shaped in the wind tunnel, was conceived in cooperation with German designer Vittorio Strosek. Its width has increased by 6 cm at the front and by 13 cm at the rear. Together with the special rocker panels, the wider N-LARGO fenders at the front and rear give the supercar an hourglass shape.
The N-LARGO side components create a perfect transition between the wider fenders and route the airflow to the rear brake discs and calipers through their integrated air intakes. The NOVITEC air intakes behind the doors supply the engine bay with breathing and cooling air.
However, the conversion of the bodywork not only focused on an extravagant appearance but also on the optimization of the driving dynamics by means of efficient modifications to the aerodynamics. This includes, among other things, the redesigned bootlid with forged carbon insert at the front, the covers for the side mirrors, the lower strips on the rocker panels, the N-LARGO rear wing attachment for the stock retractable spoiler, and the air intakes in the rear end.
Upgraded McLaren engine
The McLaren twin-turbo 4-litre 8-cylinder engine has been tuned by NOVITEC to offer customers a choice of 3 different output levels. The most powerful level includes a NOVITEC RACE high-performance exhaust system and has modifications which add 86 bhp/108 Nm. This boosts maximum output to 806 bhp at a low 6700 rpm, while peak torque is bumped up to 878 Nm.
As a result, the N-LARGO rockets from standstill to 100 km/h in a claimed 2.7 seconds and reaches a speed of 200 km/h after just 7.5 seconds; with top speed increased to 346 km/h.
The 488 Pista has the most powerful 8-cylinder engine in the history of Ferrari but for those who are still not satisfied, NOVITEC can boost output in three levels up to 802 ps/898 Nm. In its most extreme tune, the supercar should be able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and top out at 345 km/h.
Ideal conditions for further enhancements
NOVITEC’s engine experts specialize in making high-performance engines even more powerful. With its twin-turbo forced induction system, the 488 Pista offers the ideal conditions for further enhanced dynamics. To this end, the company adapts two NOVITEC N-TRONIC control modules to the engine electronics, which provide the engine controls with newly programmed mapping for injection and ignition while increasing the electronic boost pressure limit.
In order to optimize the power output even further and enhance the exhaust note, a NOVITEC high-performance exhaust system can be specified. The exhaust system comes in different versions, with or without electronic sound management by means of actively controlled exhaust flaps.
In addition, Pista drivers can choose between versions made from stainless steel or from the especially lightweight INCONEL, the same material also used for exhaust systems in Formula 1 racing. All NOVITEC exhaust systems are fully thermally insulated in order to have a positive effect on the temperature in the engine bay. Also part of the product range are 100-cell sport catalysts, which further optimize the power delivery.
More instant throttle response, stronger pulling power
In the most extreme tuning level, the turbocharged 8-cylinder unit puts out 82 ps more than the production engine. It also delivers an increase in torque by 128 Nm – up to 898 Nm – at a low 3,100 rpm. The NOVITEC performance upgrades for the 488 Pista lie not only in the optimized acceleration and top speed but also even more instant throttle response and stronger pulling power on the road.
In the development of the NOVITEC naked-carbon bodywork components for the two-seater, the designers focused not only on spectacular looks but also and above all on aerodynamic efficiency, which was accomplished in wind tunnel testing.
The front end is extended forward with the NOVITEC spoiler blade, which provides a further reduction in aerodynamic lift at high speeds. A tailor-made molding for the bonnet rounds off the NOVITEC ‘face’ for the front of the sportscar.
The optional rocker panels give the car an even sportier appearance from the side and channel the airflow at the sides with even more precision. Subtle NOVITEC carbon covers for the side mirrors and the carbon triangles at the windows of the two doors add further sporty touches. The rear end is fitted with a spoiler lip to achieve a sophisticated aerodynamic balance.
Further hallmark features elaborate down to the last detail are the black side indicators and reflectors as well as the likewise black LED third brake light. The design package is rounded off with carbon surrounds for the two taillights.
Working with Vossen as a partner for the development and production for the wheels, the largest available variant is the NOVITEC NF10 forged rim. To put even more emphasis on the wedge shape of the mid-engine sports car, the wheels with 5 double-spokes are mounted on the 488 Pista in a staggered combination of size 9Jx21 rims at the front and size 12Jx22 on the rear axle.
NOVITEC chose Pirelli P Zero high-performance tyres of sizes 255/30 ZR 21 and 335/25 ZR 22 as the optimal rubber. The broad range of wheels also includes other exclusive rims in different combinations with diameters of 20, 21 or 22 inches.
Another NOVITEC hi-tech development is the hydraulic suspension system. It lowers the ride height by about 35 mm. The hydraulic front lift system allows raising the front axle by 40 mm at the touch of a button in the cockpit. This makes it easier to navigate ramps in parking garages or speed tables in city streets.
