Proton Sales Surpasses 100,000 Barrier For 2023

Proton has achieved another milestone by surpassing the 100,000-unit mark in sales for the fifth consecutive year. This milestone was reached in August, a month earlier than in the previous year. With 13,955 units delivered in the same month, the year-to-date (YTD) sales for 2023 now stand at 104,602 units, which is a significant increase of 19.6% or 17,121 units compared to the first eight months of the previous year.

In August, the total industry volume (TIV) is estimated to be at 74,200 units, giving Proton a market share projection of 18.8% for the month and a YTD market share figure of 20.8%. The company’s volume growth outpaces the TIV, which is estimated to be at 12.2% for 2023.

Proton’s sales growth in 2023 is attributed to a model lineup that includes four models leading YTD sales in their respective segments. Notably, the Proton X90, a recent addition to the lineup, leads both monthly and YTD sales for D-segment SUVs. The Proton X50 continues to dominate the B-segment SUV market, with the highest overall SUV sales. The Proton Exora remains a leader in C-segment MPV sales, and the Proton Persona has achieved more than 2,000 units in sales for the sixth time in 2023.

The Proton Saga, a consistent best-seller, achieved its highest monthly sales figure in 2023 in August. The Proton Iriz is experiencing a resurgence in sales, and the Proton X70 continues to perform well in the market.

The Malaysian automotive industry is poised to set new sales records in 2023, with Proton and other brands competing vigorously for sales. The introduction of numerous new products and upcoming model launches are expected to keep market conditions highly competitive.
