UMW Toyota Motor Unveils ‘Beyond Zero’ Initiatives

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) has introduced its Beyond Zero initiative in alignment with Toyota’s global goal of achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050. The event, held at the Technology Park Malaysia from today until 28 February, unveiled transformative initiatives demonstrating the brand’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly practices.

The event signifies the company’s promise to lead the way toward a sustainable and connected future, going beyond traditional automotive concepts to envision a society where individuals make choices aligned with their values and lifestyles. This approach, termed the multiple pathway approach towards Carbon Neutrality, aims to foster a sustainable environment while promoting individual happiness.

The event showcased UMWT’s dedication to aligning its practices with broader national and global efforts to combat climate change. UMWT demonstrated a multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality, offering multiple electrification solutions tailored to meet the diverse needs of customers and regions.

The Beyond Zero event introduced various electrified technologies, including Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs). These vehicles feature advanced technologies and design elements aimed at reducing environmental impact.

UMWT showcased its Hybrid Electric Vehicles, which have been successful in the Malaysian market since 2009, contributing significantly to decarbonisation efforts. Additionally, UMWT presented Battery Electric Vehicles and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles, including models like the bZ4X, Hilux BEV, and the C+pod, designed for urban mobility.

On the Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle front, UMWT showcased models like the Toyota Mirai FCEV, GranAce FCEV, and Hilux FCEV. These vehicles utilize Fuel Cell technology to generate electricity from hydrogen and oxygen, offering a cleaner and more sustainable automotive future.

The event also highlighted the SORA bus, powered by hydrogen fuel cells, showcasing its potential for contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable automotive future, especially for commercial purposes.

Toyota’s investment in fuel cell technology over 30 years has led to the development of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, offering zero-emission journeys powered by hydrogen and oxygen.

UMWT’s presentation emphasised a diverse range of innovative, eco-friendly technologies and models, reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions. The Beyond Zero event aims to raise awareness and encourage participation in sustainability initiatives and new technologies.

By showcasing hybrid electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell technology, the Beyond Zero concept underscores Toyota’s dedication to innovation while fostering a green, low-carbon ecosystem for all Malaysian citizens.

The event symbolises Toyota’s transition of the automotive industry toward Carbon Neutrality, aiming to reduce negative impacts on people and the environment to zero while striving to create greater value for the future.
