Malaysia Autoshow 2025: PRO-NET Unveils Proton e.MAS 5 and Strengthens EV Commitment

As the country’s largest automotive showcase unfolds, PRO-NET is asserting its leadership in EV innovation alongside Proton, reflecting a national vision increasingly shaped by sustainability and future-forward design.

Among the headline attractions is a new EV model, freshly revealed under a camouflaged wrap that quickly became a focal point for visitors. This latest development marks a pivotal chapter in PRO-NET’s electrification roadmap.

During a dedicated media session, PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang officially introduced the company’s latest electric vehicle – the Proton e.MAS 5. Scheduled for market launch in the final quarter of 2025, the e.MAS 5 is designed to cater to young drivers and first-time EV buyers, offering a stylish, practical, and accessible entry point into electric mobility. The model is intended to support Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which targets 80 percent of new vehicle sales to be electrified by 2050.

The naming of the e.MAS 5 follows the convention established by its larger sibling, the e.MAS 7. While more compact in form, the e.MAS 5 maintains the same intelligent features and progressive aesthetics that define the e.MAS series. It has been developed with a focus on providing an exciting and dynamic driving experience for a younger, urban demographic.

Zhang stated that the Proton e.MAS 5 embodies PRO-NET’s vision for a new generation of smart and sustainable transport in Malaysia. Unlike the family-oriented e.MAS 7, the e.MAS 5 targets a more vibrant and youthful market, embracing a greener and more connected automotive future.

Coinciding with the vehicle’s debut, PRO-NET launched its “Electrify Your Life” Campaign, a national initiative designed to further drive EV adoption. Running from 8 May to 31 July 2025, the campaign invites Malaysians to share creative slogans that capture the spirit of electrification through an official microsite. Participants can increase their odds of winning by visiting selected Proton e.MAS dealerships or attending roadshows and test-driving the EVs. In total, up to 36 entries can be accumulated per participant.

Monthly winners will be announced throughout the campaign’s duration, culminating in the grand prize — a brand-new Proton e.MAS 5 — to be awarded on 24 August during the campaign’s final roadshow in Shah Alam.

The campaign will also serve as a nationwide introduction to the e.MAS 7, Proton’s first production EV, while offering Malaysians an early look at the camouflaged e.MAS 5.

The roadshow will stop at several key locations across the country:

  • TRX Mall, Kuala Lumpur (22–25 May)

  • Gurney Paragon, Penang (13–15 June)

  • AEON Mall, Melaka (27–29 June)

  • Paradigm Mall, Johor Bahru (3–6 July)

  • Central i-City, Shah Alam (21–24 August)

Adding to the significance of the event, the Malaysia Autoshow also served as the closing chapter of the ASEAN Unity Drive, a landmark EV expedition that spanned nine Southeast Asian countries over 16 days. Organised by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), and supported by PRO-NET, the initiative began in Jakarta on 22 April.

The convoy, comprising the e.MAS 7 alongside the Proton X50 and X70, journeyed across ASEAN capitals including Hanoi, Vientiane, Manila, Phnom Penh, Bandar Seri Begawan, Bangkok, Singapore, and ultimately Kuala Lumpur. The expedition covered 9,000 kilometres, reinforcing Malaysia’s commitment to regional cooperation and low-carbon mobility.

The Unity Drive symbolises more than a feat of endurance; it reflects Malaysia’s growing ambition to lead Southeast Asia in sustainable automotive solutions. With the strong involvement of MITI, MARii, and industry partners, PRO-NET’s participation in the event underlines its emerging role as a key player in the national and regional EV landscape.

As the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 progresses, PRO-NET’s presence not only showcases technological ambition but also reinforces a national push toward electrification, accessibility, and environmental responsibility.
