Proton Expands Strategic Partnership with Grab Malaysia to Strengthen Support for E-Hailing Sector

Proton and Grab Malaysia have reinforced their collaborative efforts in the e-hailing industry by expanding their strategic partnership, offering a wider selection of vehicle options and enhanced benefits for Grab driver-partners nationwide. This latest development includes the introduction of the Proton S70 and premium X-Series models to Grab’s fleet, further supporting driver-partners seeking practical, reliable, and value-driven transport solutions.

Building on the momentum of the “Saga Power Up for Grab Driver-Partners” campaign initiated in November 2024, the partnership continues to yield positive results. To date, the initiative has generated 220 customer leads and led to the registration of 148 units of the Proton Saga. This ongoing success reflects the strong appeal of Proton vehicles within the e-hailing segment and highlights the shared mission of both companies to modernise Malaysia’s ride-hailing landscape with vehicles that are both affordable and dependable.

With the expansion, driver-partners now have access to a broader range of Proton models, including options suitable for the GrabCar Plus and GrabCar (6-Seater) categories. The extended offering comes with exclusive incentives designed to ease the financial burden on drivers, particularly during the early stages of vehicle ownership. These incentives include cash rebates of up to RM13,000, a 5% service discount over two years or 40,000 kilometres—whichever comes first—and RM500 in fuel assistance, providing tangible benefits for daily operational costs.

To officially mark the continuation of this partnership, a formal signing ceremony took place at Proton’s Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam. Key representatives in attendance included Zhang Qiang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton EDAR; Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations & Mobility for Grab Malaysia; Wan Hazran, Director of After Sales at Proton EDAR; Ong Chee Wooi, Deputy Director of Sales, Proton EDAR; and Gerald Lian, Head of Driver Acquisition & Strategic Supply at Grab Malaysia.

Ong Chee Wooi, Deputy Director of Sales at Proton EDAR, expressed that this strengthened alliance signifies an important advancement in Proton’s commitment to the e-hailing community. He affirmed that making the S70 and premium X-Series models accessible to Grab driver-partners reflects Proton’s understanding of gig workers’ needs. He noted that Proton vehicles are designed to offer not only reliability but also cost-efficiency, factors that are crucial for individuals who rely on their cars for income.

Echoing this sentiment, Rashid Shukor of Grab Malaysia stated that the expanded partnership demonstrates the company’s continuous efforts to create flexible income opportunities for Malaysians. He emphasised that the collaboration with Proton simplifies access to vehicles for drivers, enabling them to support their families while fulfilling growing consumer demand. By introducing the S70 and X-Series to the programme, he added, Grab is helping drivers elevate their service quality, broaden their customer base, and ultimately improve their earning potential.

As the partnership progresses, both Proton and Grab remain committed to advancing the nation’s e-hailing industry through strategic collaboration, shared innovation, and a mutual focus on supporting the livelihoods of everyday Malaysians.
