Chery Malaysia Pledges RM50,000 to National Sports Fund, Commits Proceeds from Tiggo Cross Sales to Athlete Development

Chery Malaysia has reinforced its commitment to national development through sports by announcing a RM50,000 contribution to the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN). The announcement was made during the official launch of the all-new Chery Tiggo Cross on 9 July 2025, underscoring the company’s intent to support Malaysian excellence beyond the automotive sector.

More than a symbolic gesture, Chery’s latest initiative includes a broader commitment to channel a portion of the proceeds from every unit of the new Tiggo Cross sold this year directly to KWASN. This sustained contribution aims to strengthen the nation’s sporting foundation and provide continuous backing to athletes and sports associations throughout the country.

Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Malaysia, stated that the brand’s philosophy of performance extends beyond vehicles and is rooted in empowering individuals. He emphasised that the company seeks to uplift Malaysian athletes and local sports bodies, enabling them to achieve success on the global stage. This latest initiative, he said, is part of Chery’s broader mission to champion Malaysian talent and bolster their prospects internationally.

The company’s involvement in the local sports scene is not new. In 2024, Chery Malaysia garnered praise for awarding new vehicles to Malaysian Olympic medallists from the Paris Games. The gesture was widely viewed as a sincere show of appreciation for their outstanding achievements.

KWASN, the beneficiary of Chery’s donation, is a public trust fund managed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS). It offers grants to support both national and international sports programmes, including participation in global competitions by athletes under national bodies or as independents. With oversight from the Ministry of Finance, the fund is governed with a strong emphasis on transparency and accountability. It plays a pivotal role in enhancing Malaysia’s sporting infrastructure, training, and global competitiveness.

Chery Malaysia has also called on other private-sector players to participate in shaping the future of sports in Malaysia. The company highlighted the importance of building a sustainable and inclusive sports ecosystem through corporate partnerships and grassroots engagement.

As part of its broader commitment to youth development and community engagement, Chery actively supports various grassroots sports initiatives across multiple disciplines including badminton, football, cycling, running, and pickleball. These efforts reflect the brand’s belief that nurturing young talent is integral to building a healthier and more vibrant society.

The launch of the Tiggo Cross further solidified Chery’s growing footprint in Malaysia. Since its debut, the new model has received over 1,000 bookings, reflecting strong interest among local buyers. Offering a combination of stylish design, hybrid technology, and spirited performance, the Tiggo Cross is priced competitively at RM88,800 (Peninsular Malaysia) for the 1.5L Turbo and RM99,800 for the 1.5L Hybrid CSH variant. Both models are currently available for viewing and test drives at Chery dealerships nationwide.
