Kia Corporation has officially introduced the Carens Clavis EV, its first electric vehicle manufactured in India, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s electrification strategy. Designed specifically to address the evolving needs of emerging markets, the new electric recreational vehicle (RV) fuses Kia’s advanced EV technology with practical design and lifestyle-centric features.
The Carens Clavis EV represents Kia’s vision of inclusive and accessible electric mobility. With a focus on versatility, everyday comfort, and adaptability, this SUV-inspired RV is geared towards both urban commuters and families seeking a capable electric vehicle for longer journeys. Offering a refined blend of practicality and innovation, the Clavis EV sets out to make electric driving a seamless part of daily life.
The Carens Clavis EV is offered with two battery configurations: a 42 kWh unit delivering a certified range of 404km (ARAI, full MIDC cycle), and a larger 51.4 kWh pack extending range to 490km. Both versions are capable of charging from 10% to 80% in 39 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger. Customers can choose between two electric motor outputs, delivering either 132hp or 168hp and 255Nm of torque, ensuring ample acceleration even under full load.
Built to perform in varied climates and road conditions, the Carens Clavis EV features an advanced thermal management system comprising a liquid-cooled battery pack and an Active Air Flap. The battery is IP67-rated for dust and water resistance and has passed extensive durability tests including submersion, drops, and vibration challenges.
A key innovation is the inclusion of i-Pedal 2.0, enabling true one-pedal driving. Additionally, drivers can opt for an Auto Mode that intelligently adjusts regenerative braking levels based on real-time traffic flow, striking a balance between comfort and efficiency.
Inside, the Carens Clavis EV offers a modern and intuitive cabin experience. The 26.62-inch dual panoramic display integrates infotainment and instrument cluster functions. Drivers benefit from smart climate controls, ventilated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, while passengers enjoy dual-pane panoramic sunroof access, ambient lighting, and an eight-speaker premium Bose sound system. Practicality is elevated through features such as ‘Boss Mode’ for second-row flexibility, one-touch electric tumble, and a Smart Pure Air Purifier with AQI monitoring.
Supporting modern lifestyles, the Clavis EV includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology both inside and outside the vehicle, allowing users to power external electronic devices — a key asset for outdoor activities or emergency scenarios.
Safety remains at the core of the Carens Clavis EV’s offering. It incorporates Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with over 20 autonomous functions, including Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keeping Assist, and Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, which covers pedestrians, cyclists, and junction turns. Additional safety technologies include Blind Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance, and Driver Attention Warning. Furthermore, the EV comes equipped with 18 standard safety features such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-start Assist, Downhill Brake Control, ISOFIX mounts, and rollover sensors.
Connectivity is another strong suit of the Carens Clavis EV. The model offers over 90 connected features, enabling remote management of charging schedules, real-time energy monitoring, and route planning via Kia’s EV Route Planner. Over-the-air updates are supported, and a dedicated EV suite is accessible through the MyKia app. The K-Charge platform provides access to more than 11,000 charging points across India, while additional ownership perks include AI-driven vehicle maintenance alerts, video consultations, and a ‘My Convenience e-Plus’ package covering service, warranty, and roadside assistance.
Built at Kia’s state-of-the-art production facility in India, the Carens Clavis EV symbolises a fusion of global EV capability with regional manufacturing insight. The model is available in four distinct variants and six colour choices, with market-specific pricing and availability to be announced in due course.
As Kia continues its global expansion into the EV sector, the Carens Clavis EV underscores the brand’s ambition to democratise electric mobility by creating intelligent, lifestyle-ready vehicles for today’s diverse range of drivers.
