XPENG Rolls Out Global OTA 5.8.0 Update, Expanding Intelligent Features for Smarter Mobility

XPENG has announced the global release of its latest over-the-air software upgrade, XOS 5.8.0, beginning on 25 August. More than a routine update, this rollout represents the company’s push to combine intelligent driving, advanced cabin features and user-driven customisation into a smarter mobility experience for its customers worldwide.

The 5.8.0 update is the third major release of the year, following versions 5.4.5 in January and 5.6.0 in May. Each has progressively expanded XPENG’s technological footprint, enhancing safety, personalisation and driving assistance. With the newest upgrade, the company has again underlined its commitment to listening to user feedback while maintaining its reputation as a pioneer in the intelligent EV space.

One of the key highlights is the introduction of Human-Machine Co-Driving in Europe, making XPENG the first automaker in the region to offer the feature as standard. When Lane Centring Control is engaged, the system now works in tandem with the driver instead of disengaging once steering input is detected. The result is smoother, more natural control, particularly in complex conditions such as highway exits or merges. Adaptive Cruise Control has also been refined to deliver more stable cornering speeds and gentler deceleration, further improving passenger comfort.

The update also introduces Pet Mode, aimed at owners who travel with animals. When activated, the car automatically locks its doors, closes windows, and regulates the cabin temperature to prevent overheating or excessive cooling. Real-time alerts are sent to the owner via the XPENG app, and climate settings can be adjusted remotely, providing reassurance for those who need to briefly leave pets inside the vehicle.

Entertainment receives a boost with the addition of KaraFun, which transforms the cabin into a hands-free karaoke lounge. The app is available through XPENG’s in-car store and allows occupants to enjoy a new level of in-car leisure.

To cater to drivers in hotter regions, the minimum air-conditioning temperature has been lowered to 16°C, while safety has been reinforced with the Dashcam system’s new Emergency Recording function. XPENG’s XCOMBO platform has also been expanded, now supporting 21 languages and more than 700 personalisation options. This allows users to tailor their driving environment through the car’s central display or mobile app, choosing from a wide range of official preset modes covering comfort, efficiency, entertainment and safety.

The company has positioned the 5.8.0 release as an evolution of its user-centric approach, with Alex Tang, Head of International Development of Services, explaining that XPENG’s goal is to create a smarter, more diverse and more convenient mobility space for drivers across global markets.

Founded in 2014, XPENG has grown into one of China’s leading AI-driven mobility companies, with a focus on developing Smart EVs that appeal to tech-savvy consumers. It has built its own advanced driver assistance systems, in-car operating software, powertrains and electronic architecture, while also operating R&D facilities in Silicon Valley and Amsterdam. Manufacturing is carried out at its plants in Zhaoqing and Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.

With the XOS 5.8.0 rollout, XPENG has reinforced its ambition to lead the intelligent EV revolution, using AI-driven innovation to deliver a mobility experience shaped by the needs of its global customer base.
