Volvo has introduced the 2026 EX90, and the brand’s flagship EV SUV now comes with a host of upgrades, both in hardware and software. Sitting on a brand-new 800-volt electric system, the EX90 promises much quicker charging times, improved efficiency and even better performance.
On top of that, the SUV’s brain has been given a serious boost, thanks to a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer delivering a massive 500 trillion operations per second.
The new setup unlocks a fresh wave of safety and driver assistance features. Among them are connected safety alerts that warn of slippery roads, upcoming hazards or accidents ahead. The EX90 also introduces a new Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) function, which brings the car to a controlled stop in its lane if the driver becomes unresponsive, such as during a sudden health emergency.
Once stationary, an integrated automatic e-call system dials into Volvo’s emergency call centre, allowing direct contact with occupants and quick coordination with rescue services if required.
Other upgrades include expanded automatic emergency steering that now works effectively in the dark, as well as Park Pilot Assist for hassle-free parallel parking. With its upgraded computing power, Volvo has also set itself up for continuous improvements to the EX90 via over-the-air updates, ensuring the SUV gets smarter and safer over time.
The 800V system is a game-changer compared to the outgoing 400V architecture. By reducing heat during charging, it allows for significantly faster top-ups – up to 250 km of range can be added in just 10 minutes under optimal conditions.
The shift not only enables quicker charging but also more efficient energy use, faster acceleration and a reduction in overall material weight, making the car leaner and more efficient.
Volvo has also fitted the 2026 EX90 with an electrochromic panoramic roof, first seen in the ES90 sedan. This allows owners to adjust the transparency of the glass, cutting glare or adding privacy with the press of a button.
Importantly, the updates aren’t reserved only for new buyers. Owners of the 2025 EX90 will be offered a one-time free upgrade to the new core computer through a scheduled workshop visit, ensuring they benefit from the performance and safety gains too.
The EX90 continues to play a central role in Volvo’s move towards fully electric mobility, and with these upgrades, it looks set to reinforce its reputation as one of the safest and most advanced SUVs on the road.
