Chery has pulled the covers off the Exeed Yaoguang C-DM Global Edition in China, an SUV that blends familiar design with significant updates to its hybrid powertrain.
Available in three trims, the model has been priced from 139,900 yuan, which works out to roughly RM90,800, while the top-spec version climbs to 189,900 yuan or around RM123,300. Positioned as a “Global Edition”, the new model is clearly intended for export, signalling Chery’s ambition to push its premium Exeed line further into international markets.
On the outside, the Yaoguang retains much of the bold character of its predecessor, but with subtle enhancements. The full-width LED light bar across the nose remains, now joined by vertical light strips at either side to emphasise the SUV’s stance.
A new dual-tone exterior option has been added, giving buyers a sharper, more distinctive look. At the rear, the through-type taillights are still in place, but with the addition of black trim and twin exhaust outlets that lend the SUV a sportier finish. Dimensionally, the Global Edition continues with a length of 4,781 mm, width of 1,920 mm, height of 1,671 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,815 mm, while curb weight varies between 1,913 and 2,171 kg depending on specification.
Where the real changes happen is under the skin. The Global Edition continues to pair a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with electrified power, but Chery has added new configurations that bring out the best of its plug-in hybrid technology.
The petrol engine alone develops 154hp, with 220Nm of torque, and works in harmony with either two or three electric motors, depending on the trim. Power is delivered through a 3-speed DHT gearbox, while the combined system is capable of an impressive total range of up to 1,400 km.
The entry-level Long-Range 2WD uses a front-mounted motor producing 201hp and 310Nm, supported by a 19.53 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery developed by Chery itself, good for 120 km of electric-only driving. The mid-tier Ultra-Long-Range 2WD adds more punch with dual front motors, raising output to 221hp and 390Nm, matched with a larger 34.46 kWh battery from CATL that extends electric range to 210 km.
For those seeking maximum performance and capability, the Ultra-Long-Range 4WD brings in a third motor on the rear axle, contributing a further 235hp and 310Nm, with the same 34.46 kWh battery providing 200 km of pure electric driving.
Inside, the cabin mirrors the premium ambitions of the Exeed brand. A sweeping 24.6-inch dual-screen setup dominates the dashboard, combining a fully digital instrument cluster and infotainment display. The system runs on Chery’s Lion 5.0 operating software, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip to ensure seamless performance.
Physical control is maintained with signature rotary knobs positioned beneath the screen, while the rest of the interior is kitted out with thoughtful luxuries. These include a Sony eight-speaker audio system, high-output 50W wireless charging pads, customisable 256-colour ambient lighting, and a foldable rear centre console for added convenience.
The Exeed Yaoguang C-DM Global Edition does not reinvent the SUV’s design, but the deeper changes to its hybrid powertrain and export-ready packaging give it fresh appeal. With its long range, high level of equipment, and competitive pricing, it is positioned as a strong contender in the rapidly growing plug-in hybrid market.
Here in Malaysia, the Omoda C9 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid luxury SUV coupé was revealed at the OMODA | JAECOO Carnival in August 2025. The C9 PHEV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with three electric motors, delivering a jaw-dropping 605PS and 915Nm of torque under optimal conditions. This setup launches the SUV from 0–100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
