TQ WULING has officially entered the Malaysian electric vehicle space with the launch of the locally assembled Bingo EV, a compact electric hatchback aimed squarely at everyday urban drivers. Introduced as the first model under the TQ WULING brand, the Bingo EV is the result of a strategic collaboration between Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad and SAIC-GM-Wuling, combining decades of local manufacturing experience with proven global EV technology.
The Bingo EV is offered in two variants, with the Bingo PRO priced at RM67,800 and the Bingo MAX at RM72,800, making it one of the most accessible EVs currently available in Malaysia. As part of its launch campaign, TQ WULING is rolling out Bingo’s Fabulous Five Perks, which include a RM5,000 cash rebate. With this incentive applied, on-the-road prices drop to RM62,800 for the PRO and RM67,800 for the MAX, significantly lowering the barrier to EV ownership. Early customers are also encouraged by a low booking fee of RM50 via the tqwuling.my website.
The partnership behind the Bingo EV brings together Tan Chong’s nearly 50 years of local automotive manufacturing heritage and nationwide distribution strength with SAIC-GM-Wuling’s extensive EV expertise. The Bingo EV is also the first electric vehicle to be locally assembled at the Tan Chong plant, marking a notable step in expanding Malaysia’s EV manufacturing capabilities. Both partners have highlighted the model as part of a broader effort to support the country’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
Designed for city use, the Bingo EV balances compact dimensions with practical interior space. Measuring 3,950 mm long, 1,708 mm wide and 1,580 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,560 mm, it is small enough to navigate tight urban streets while still offering usable cabin and boot space. The luggage area ranges from 395 litres to 1,240 litres with the rear seats folded, making it suitable for daily errands and short trips.
Power comes from a front-mounted 50 kW electric motor producing 68 PS and 150 Nm of torque, paired with a single-speed reduction gear driving the front wheels. The PRO variant uses a 31.9 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, while the MAX features a larger 37.9 kWh unit.
Driving range is rated at up to 333 km for the PRO and up to 410 km for the MAX under the CLTC cycle, offering sufficient coverage for daily commuting. DC fast charging allows the battery to be replenished from 30 to 80 per cent in around 35 minutes, while AC charging from empty to full takes about 4.5 hours for the PRO and 5.5 hours for the MAX.
At the heart of the Bingo EV is SAIC-GM-Wuling’s proprietary MAGIC Battery system, which has been deployed across more than three million EVs globally without any recorded fire incidents. The battery has undergone extensive testing for heat, fire exposure, overcharging, short circuits, nail penetration and pressure, and is designed around a “five zero” safety concept covering fire risk, water ingress, corrosion, performance degradation and user concerns.
An IP68 rating ensures resistance against dust and water, providing reassurance in Malaysia’s often unpredictable weather conditions. Regenerative braking and intelligent thermal management further help maintain battery health and range consistency.
Styling plays a big role in the Bingo EV’s appeal. Its exterior blends retro-inspired design with modern EV cues, featuring smooth curves, a closed grille and distinctive X-shaped LED lighting at both the front and rear. A two-tone paint scheme adds a youthful touch, with Malaysian buyers able to choose from Milky White, Neon Blue or Lavender Purple, all paired with a black roof.
Inside, the cabin follows a similar retro-modern theme, finished in a dual-tone Caramel Latte colour scheme with perforated leatherette upholstery. The dashboard is dominated by a pair of 10.25-inch screens serving as the digital instrument cluster and infotainment display, both supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A floating-style centre console, rotary gear selector and two-tone steering wheel contribute to a clean, modern look, while practical touches include 15 storage compartments and a six-way electric-adjustable driver’s seat.
Safety has been given particular attention, with Malaysia becoming the first market globally to offer the Bingo EV with six airbags as standard across both variants. The body structure uses 1,500 MPa ultra-high tensile steel in critical areas, while electronic safety systems include ABS, EBD and ESC. Additional features such as blind spot warning, tyre pressure monitoring, a low-speed pedestrian alert and walkaway auto-lock further enhance everyday driving confidence.
Ownership support is backed by comprehensive warranties, including eight years or 120,000 km for the EV battery, eight years or 160,000 km for the drive motor, and a five-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty against manufacturing defects. Customers also benefit from Bingo’s Fabulous Five Perks, which extend beyond cash rebates to include an eight-year battery warranty, low monthly instalments from RM625 through selected banks, complimentary home and portable chargers, premium solar tinting and selected insurance benefits.
To support growing demand, TQ WULING has already established six showrooms across Peninsular Malaysia, supported by seven after-sales centres through Tan Chong’s service network, with more locations planned. With competitive pricing, generous incentives and a strong focus on safety and practicality, the Bingo EV positions itself as a compelling entry point for Malaysians looking to make the switch to electric mobility.
