The latest iteration of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQB has made its debut, featuring a handful of minor enhancements. This compact electric SUV was initially introduced for the 2022 model year, making it noteworthy that Mercedes has swiftly implemented updates to improve upon its existing offering.
In terms of aesthetics, the EQB receives notable updates in the form of a fresh grille and front bumper design. The grille adopts the signature Mercedes-EQ family appearance, characterized by the black panel adorned with an array of stars. Buyers now have the choice between black or chrome stars on the grille. The redesigned front bumper serves to enhance the visual width of the vehicle’s front fascia, contributing to a more commanding presence.
Turning our attention to the rear, Mercedes has undertaken modifications to the lighting within the expansive taillight, resulting in a rejuvenated visual identity. These subtle alterations, in addition to the introduction of two new colour options – Starling Blue and Cirrus Silver – serve to complete the array of exterior revisions.
Inside the cabin, Mercedes has implemented significant changes, with the introduction of the expansive 10.25-inch touchscreen display that now comes standard. This display operates on the Zero Layer MBUX software, offering a host of enhanced functionalities. Notable additions encompass wireless integration for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, expanding connectivity options. Furthermore, the touchscreen presents various display mode styles, enabling drivers to tailor their experience according to their preferences. The advanced voice assistant also reflects increased intelligence, while the capability to access additional features through over-the-air updates introduces a novel level of versatility.
As a noteworthy example, the EQB boasts two predefined “Sound Experiences.” However, customers can unlock an additional two sound profiles through the Mercedes Me store, enriching their driving encounters even further. This concerted effort by Mercedes showcases their commitment to offering a tech-forward and customisable driving environment.
Speaking about audio enhancements, the EQB takes a significant step forward by integrating Dolby Atmos technology into its optional Burmester audio system. This addition contributes to a more authentic and accurate audio experience, elevating the overall auditory enjoyment.
In a major technological stride, the introduction of the “Plug & Charge” capability is worth highlighting. This innovation empowers users to seamlessly connect and commence the charging process, eliminating the need to swipe a card or activate a charger via a mobile app. This convenience-driven feature is compatible with specific chargers, simplifying the charging experience.
Another valuable addition comes in the form of a novel range monitoring function. This function provides users with detailed insights into which systems are utilizing the battery’s power. Notably, it enables users to curtail the consumption of specific systems, potentially extending the vehicle’s overall range—an element of control that underscores the EQB’s efficiency focus.
Mercedes has bolstered the driver assistance systems with the integration of a new mono multi-purpose camera and a fresh backup camera. These updates signify a concerted effort to improve safety and enhance the driving experience through cutting-edge technology.
Unchanged are the powertrain configurations, maintaining the existing choices for potential buyers. The lineup continues to encompass the front-wheel-drive EQB 250+, along with two all-wheel-drive alternatives: the EQB 300 4Matic and the more potent EQB 350 4Matic. The maximum DC fast charging rate remains at 100 kW, offering expedited charging times. Although the official EPA range ratings have yet to be disclosed, it’s reasonable to anticipate them being on par with, or akin to, the current model’s maximum of 402km for the EQB 250+ variant.
For those intrigued by the prospect of expanding seating capacity, the option to include a third row remains unaltered, enabling the EQB to accommodate up to seven passengers comfortably.
Mercedes has affirmed that the updated 2024 EQB is slated to arrive at US dealerships within the initial half of 2024. Currently, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia offers the EQB350 4Matic and the EQC400 4Matic, available at prices of RM328,888 and RM388,888 respectively.
