Daihatsu Set To Showcase Electric Lineup At Japan Mobility Show

Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota renowned for its compact models and microcars, is all set to make a significant mark at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show by unveiling a lineup of electric vehicles. Daihatsu has a rich history of producing microcars, vans, and trucks, and now it’s embracing the electric revolution, especially in the compact vehicle category.

Daihatsu Osanpo

One of the highlights is the Daihatsu Osanpo, an electric roadster that epitomizes the brand’s quirky and innovative design approach. The name “Osanpo” translates to “to walk” in Japanese, emphasising the ease and comfort of enjoying an open-air experience akin to a leisurely stroll. With a compact length of 3,395mm, the Osanpo promises a unique and compact driving experience. For comparison, the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is 3914mm, thus the Osanpo is a fairly small machine.

The boxy Me:Mo EV concept is another interesting addition to Daihatsu’s electric lineup. Characterized by its rectangular shape with short overhangs and generous windows allowing ample natural light into the cabin, the Me:Mo EV concept showcases Daihatsu’s commitment to practical design and functionality in compact dimensions, measuring just 2,955mm long.

For the commercial segment, Daihatsu presents the Uniform Cargo and Uniform Truck concepts. These are envisioned as compact commercial vehicles, with the truck version featuring a taller roof for enhanced cargo capacity. Both concepts, measuring 3,395mm long, focus on practicality, including removable interior and exterior parts to adapt to varying commercial needs.

In addition to these electric offerings, Daihatsu will unveil a concept reimagining of the Copen roadster. The new Copen roadster concept is larger and more powerful than its existing model, sporting dimensions of 3835mm in length and 1694mm in width. Equipped with a 1.3-litre engine driving the rear wheels, this roadster concept is designed to offer an exhilarating driving experience.

The Japan Mobility Show, scheduled from October 26 to November 5 at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Center, will witness the debut of these exciting Daihatsu concepts.
