Malaysia’s First New Energy Vehicles Manufacturing Plant to Begin Operations in 2025

NexV Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Careplus Group Berhad and GoAuto Group Sdn Bhd, is set to pioneer Malaysia’s first green technology facility dedicated to the manufacture and assembling of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), including electric vehicles (EVs). The groundbreaking ceremony, officiated by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar YAB Dato’ Seri Haji Aminuddin bin Harun in the Chembong Industrial Area, Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, marks a significant step toward creating employment opportunities and driving investments in the region.

Scheduled to commence operations in Q1 2025, the plant will boast an annual capacity of 30,000 vehicles. A key highlight is the assembly of NETA models through the joint venture between Careplus and Intro Synergy Sdn Bhd, a GoAuto subsidiary. However, the plant won’t be limited to NETA vehicles; it will also offer opportunities for other New Energy Vehicle (NEV) brands interested in Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly of passenger and commercial EVs or electric motorcycles.

The development will unfold in three phases, starting with the construction of an assembly plant in Q1 2024. Subsequent phases in 2026 and 2028 will witness an expansion, bringing the total production capacity to 50,000 units per year. The plant’s development represents a substantial investment of RM600,000,000.

This initiative will generate over 600 skilled and semi-skilled jobs, with a focus on expertise in EV manufacturing and smart manufacturing technologies. Recruitment and training of the workforce are set to commence as early as August 2024, aligning with the plant’s operational timeline in early 2025.

In addition to green vehicle production, the facility will implement eco-friendly solutions, such as zero wastewater discharge and noise pollution technologies. The plant will also incorporate recycling centres to manage solid waste, while solar panels on the roof will contribute significantly to its energy needs.

Collaborations with major brands, including Intro Synergy Sdn Bhd, HIGER, and YUTONG, highlight the plant’s commitment to local assembly. The CKD agreement between Intro Synergy and Hozon New Energy Automobile Co. Ltd. underscores the dedication to promoting sustainable practices and New Energy Vehicles.

The event also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NMSB and Qingdao Huayue Guotai New Energy Car Co. Ltd., exploring new opportunities for New Energy Vehicles in Malaysia and ASEAN.

NMSB received its interim Manufacturing License from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) through the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) in October 2023. The recent approval of the Development Order from the Rembau District Council further solidifies the project’s momentum.
