BYD Introduces e7 All-Electric Sedan with Two Range Options in China

Chinese automaker BYD has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the official launch of the BYD e7, an all-electric mid-size sedan designed to cater to younger drivers and fleet operators such as taxi services. With prices starting from 103,800 yuan to 115,800 yuan (approximately RM67,800 to RM75,700), the e7 offers two CLTC-certified range variants — 450 km and 520 km — providing an accessible option in the growing EV market.

The new e7 features BYD’s signature low-cost e-series design language. The front fascia is completely enclosed, intended to evoke a “smiley face” appearance, complemented by the centrally placed BYD badge and sharply defined rib lines on the bonnet. At the rear, a multi-layered design is matched with a ducktail spoiler and a continuous light strip that spans the width of the vehicle. Additional lighting fixtures are located near the lower bumper, while the “e7” model designation is affixed on the bottom right. Conventional pull-type door handles have been retained, underscoring its entry-level market positioning.

With a body measuring 4,780 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, the e7 is positioned firmly within the mid-size sedan segment, slightly bigger than a Tesla Model 3. It rides on modest 16-inch alloy wheels, suitable for daily commuting and fleet usage.

Performance-wise, the e7 is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor capable of producing 134hp and a peak torque of 180Nm. This is paired with BYD’s proprietary Blade lithium iron phosphate battery packs, available in two capacities — 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh. These configurations deliver driving ranges of 450km and 520km, respectively, under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). Fast charging times are estimated at 0.47 hours for the smaller battery and 0.43 hours for the larger one. The vehicle’s top speed is electronically limited to 150km/h.

Inside, the e7 is fitted with a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display, supported by BYD’s DiLink 100 operating system. A 5-inch digital instrument cluster provides essential driving information, while a flat-bottom steering wheel adds a slight sporty touch. The dual-level centre console offers practical storage solutions: the upper tier features physical control buttons and a dedicated slot for mobile phones, while the lower level houses dual cup holders and additional compartments.

Practicality is further enhanced by a 528-litre rear boot, a panoramic sunroof, and remote-access features that allow users to operate the vehicle’s air conditioning and door systems via a smart device.

The BYD e7 serves as a strategic addition to the brand’s e-series, supporting its wider push to democratise electric mobility and promote EV adoption among price-conscious consumers and commercial operators.
