BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, has confirmed plans to establish a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) factory in Tanjung Malim, Perak.
Spanning 600,000 square metres, the plant is expected to begin vehicle production in 2026, marking a significant step in making electric mobility more accessible, competitive, and affordable for Malaysian customers.
The investment reflects BYD’s long-term strategy to strengthen its presence in Malaysia and broaden the availability of electric vehicles (EVs) for local buyers.
The project will not only focus on assembling vehicles but also support talent development and expand the EV ecosystem within the nation.
Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, highlighted Malaysia’s importance in BYD’s regional growth. He said the CKD project, together with the launch of the new BYD SEAL, marks a new chapter for the brand locally.
He emphasised that BYD remains committed to delivering world-class EV technology, investing in Malaysia’s future, and standing as a long-term partner in driving the country towards a greener, smarter transportation future.
Alongside this announcement, BYD Sime Motors has officially introduced the latest BYD SEAL in Malaysia, offering two distinct variants – Premium and Performance – that deliver notable gains in performance, comfort and equipment.
The Performance variant takes centre stage with its ability to sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. It also comes equipped with the advanced DiSus-C Intelligent Damping Body Control System, which enhances stability and cornering confidence.
Meanwhile, the Premium variant caters to drivers seeking greater efficiency, offering an extended driving range of up to 650 km (NEDC) and fitted with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers for a more refined ride.
