UMW Toyota Motor and Toyota GAZOO Racing Malaysia have kicked off the Toyota GR Malaysia eRacing Championship 2025, the country’s biggest simulator racing series. The goal is simple — to find Malaysia’s fastest virtual drivers and give them a chance to move into real-life motorsport.
Now in its eighth year and previously known as the GT Cup Malaysia, the championship has been rebranded with a bigger focus. This year, racers will compete not only on Gran Turismo, but also on RaceRoom, Assetto Corsa, and iRacing, testing their skills across different platforms. A prize pool of RM123,000 is up for grabs, split across three categories: Pro, Club, and Junior.
The format is tough: after three rounds, the top 40 drivers will fight it out in the quarterfinals. From there, the fastest 20 head to the semis, and only 10 racers will make it to the grand final later this year.
Alongside the championship is the TGR Malaysia eRacing Campus Tour, which brings professional racing simulators to universities. Students not only get to race but also enjoy tyre demos by Toyo Tires and win Toyota GAZOO Racing merchandise. The top 10 fastest students at each campus will also book a direct place in the grand finale.
This tour has already discovered real racing stars in the past, such as Raja Amirul Syauqat, Genevieve Ooi, and Jastin Rahul Dev, who all went from campus simulators to the VIOS Challenge Rookie Class. With Toyota’s performance DNA and even special Toyota-only races included, the event continues to blur the line between virtual racing and the real track.
