Chery Malaysia is gearing up to expand its line-up with the arrival of two new plug-in hybrid SUVs – the TIGGO 7 PHEV and the TIGGO 8 PHEV. Both models will feature the brand’s latest Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) technology, which blends efficiency, performance, and safety in a package designed to appeal to Malaysian drivers.
The timing of these new models fits neatly with the government’s ongoing push for greener mobility, backed by policies such as the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), the National Automotive Policy (NAP), and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). By introducing these hybrids, Chery is aligning its efforts with the country’s plans to move towards cleaner and more energy-efficient vehicles while encouraging industrial transformation in the automotive sector.
At the heart of both SUVs is Chery’s dedicated hybrid system, which brings together three major components. The first is the latest ACTECO 1.5 TGDi fifth-generation engine, which boasts a thermal efficiency of 44.5%, helping to deliver both fuel savings and strong power.
This is paired with Chery’s Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), which manages two electric motors and the petrol engine for smooth power delivery and seamless switching between modes. Drivers can expect up to 1,200 km of combined range from a full tank and a full charge, while enjoying up to 90 km of pure EV driving thanks to an 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
The system offers instant torque and strong acceleration, whether in city traffic or cruising on the highway, and gives the flexibility to move effortlessly between electric and hybrid modes depending on driving needs.
Chery has also placed significant emphasis on safety with the inclusion of the Guardian Battery Safety System. The battery pack is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, and can operate reliably in temperatures ranging from -35°C to 60°C. It is also designed to withstand Malaysian weather and road conditions, with a wading depth capability of 500 mm – handy in flood-prone areas.
In the event of an incident, the system automatically cuts off high-voltage power to protect occupants. Charging is fast too, with the battery capable of going from 30% to 80% in just 19 minutes using rapid charging.
With the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV, Chery Malaysia is looking to combine innovation and everyday practicality, delivering vehicles that are both sustainable and enjoyable to drive.
The company says these new models will set a benchmark for plug-in hybrid SUVs in Malaysia, offering class-leading range, advanced safety, and strong performance without compromising comfort.
Bookings are already open at Chery showrooms nationwide, with test drives available for those keen to experience the new hybrids first-hand. More details can also be found on Chery Malaysia’s official website.
