FAW’s premium sub-brand Hongqi has made global headlines with the HS6 PHEV, which has officially entered the Guinness World Records for the longest distance travelled by a plug-in hybrid SUV on a single full charge and full tank — without refuelling. The remarkable journey began in Shangri-La on October 30, taking the SUV through Kunming, Baise, and Wuzhou, before reaching Guangzhou on November 3. By the end of the trip, the HS6 had covered a total distance of 2,327.343 km, setting a new benchmark for hybrid efficiency and endurance.
With this achievement, Hongqi has demonstrated that plug-in hybrids can deliver long-distance practicality alongside electric efficiency. The HS6 PHEV will soon be available for purchase in China, with pre-sales beginning on November 15, where it will be positioned as a five-seater premium SUV.
Visually, the HS6 carries Hongqi’s signature design language, blending traditional luxury cues with modern flair. The front fascia features a closed waterfall-style grille accented by 12 vertical chrome strips, anchored by the brand’s trademark red line emblem that runs through the centre — a symbol synonymous with Hongqi’s identity. The overall styling strikes a balance between refinement and authority, underscoring its role as a flagship SUV in the brand’s expanding electrified portfolio.
Under the bonnet lies a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 148hp) and 225 Nm of torque, boasting an impressive thermal efficiency of 45.21%. The hybrid system comes in two configurations — two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive — with combined outputs of 225 hp and 495 hp, respectively. Depending on the specification, the SUV can reach a top speed of 205 km/h.
Hongqi offers customers a choice between 23.9 kWh and 39.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, providing pure electric ranges of 152 km, 235 km, and 250 km (CLTC). When factoring in both fuel and electric power, the HS6 PHEV achieves combined ranges of 1,460 km to 1,650 km, depending on the configuration — figures that underline its long-distance capability and class-leading efficiency.
Inside, the cabin is designed to feel both luxurious and tech-forward. The dashboard features an integrated dual-screen layout, combining a central infotainment display with a co-pilot entertainment screen, alongside a digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel. Comfort and convenience are prioritised, with features such as 50 W wireless phone charging, dual cupholders, a built-in refrigerator, and a 12-speaker sound system enhancing the in-car experience.

Passengers are treated to first-class seating, with both front and rear seats offering electric adjustment, ventilation, and heating. The co-pilot seat goes a step further, incorporating a zero-gravity design, extendable legrest, and a 10-point massage function, providing exceptional comfort for long journeys. Practicality also plays a part, with 503 litres of boot space, an additional 49 litres of hidden storage, and up to 1,977 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.
