The government has announced the cessation of highway toll exemptions during festive seasons, marking a shift towards a more targeted subsidy approach.
No More Free Tolls for Festive Seasons
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that the cabinet’s decision aligns with the government’s broader plan to implement targeted subsidies. “According to the cabinet decision, there will be no more free tolls. This also applies to the upcoming Chinese New Year next week,” he said during the opening of Section 2 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE), as reported by NST.
Nanta confirmed that 2024 was the final year for toll-free travel during festive periods. He added that any future considerations would be announced as needed.
