BYD Malaysia is thrilled to announce the official launch of its premium Denza D9 in Malaysia. Following its successful debut in Hong Kong and other international markets, the Denza D9 is set to revolutionise the luxury MPV segment, offering cutting-edge technology, unparalleled comfort, and eco-friendly performance.

A New Benchmark in Luxury Electric Mobility

The Denza D9, introduced in 2022, arrives in Malaysia as a formidable competitor to established models like the Toyota Alphard, Vellfire and Zeekr 009. With its sleek design and impressive dimensions—5,250mm in length, 1,950mm in width, and 1,920mm in height—the D9 combines spaciousness with sophistication, making it the ideal choice for discerning drivers seeking both style and functionality. Available in two all-electric variants, the Advanced (FWD) and Premium (AWD), the Denza D9 caters to a wide range of preferences. Both models are powered by BYD’s advanced Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering exceptional range, safety, and durability.

Performance and Efficiency Redefined

The Advanced (FWD) variant is equipped with a front-mounted electric motor delivering 308hp and 360Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 9.5 seconds. With a range of up to 520km (WLTP), it is perfect for long-distance travel. On the other hand, the Premium (AWD) variant features an additional rear motor, generating a combined output of 369hp and 470Nm. This allows the Premium variant to achieve 0-100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, with a range of up to 480km (WLTP). Both variants support up to 166 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 30-80% charge in just 30 minutes, while 10 minutes of charging provides an additional 150km of range.

Unmatched Comfort and Technology

The Denza D9 is designed to deliver a serene and luxurious driving experience. Its spacious interior comfortably accommodates seven adults, with a cargo capacity of 410 litres that can be expanded to 2,310 litres when the rear seats are folded. Premium amenities include a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-speaker Dynaudio audio system, and a 6.8-litre dual-temperature fridge located below the front armrest. The vehicle also features ventilated and massage-enabled front and second-row captain seats, with third-row seats offering manual adjustability. The cabin’s noise levels are as low as 64.6 dBA at 120km/h, ensuring a tranquil environment for all passengers.

Safety First

Safety is a top priority for the Denza D9, which comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). These include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and more. The vehicle is also fitted with eight airbags for maximum protection and four Isofix mounts across the second and third rows for child seat compatibility.

The Denza D9 is available in three stunning exterior colours: Arctic White, Whale Sea Blue, and Cosmos Black. Each option exudes elegance and sophistication, ensuring a style to suit every taste.

Pricing

The Premium AWD variant is priced at RM309,000 while the Advanced FWD goes as low as RM259,000! Exclusive launch privileges include a free wallbox of 22kW with installation, free six years or 120,000km service, free exclusive Denza neck and waist pillow and free exclusive Denza luggage.

The transport ministry is working with the domestic trade and cost of living ministry to prohibit the sale of dummy seat belt buckles, a device used by vehicle owners to bypass seat belt alarms.

Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook emphasised the dangers of using these buckles, stating that they allow motorists to deceive seat belt sensors, putting their safety at risk. Despite growing concerns, he acknowledged that the transport ministry does not have the authority to confiscate or ban these accessories. To address this limitation, discussions are underway with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to implement a ban on their sale and distribution.

A British electrician claims he has been stranded in Malaysia for over two months after his passport was confiscated following a dispute over a RM7 parking fee.

According to a report by the UK newspaper Daily Mail, 47-year-old Ahmed Hadi from London was arrested just three days after arriving in Malaysia with his wife and two daughters on December 4. His ordeal began in Batu Ferringhi, Penang, when a parking payment machine failed to accept either of his credit cards as he attempted to exit the facility with his family.

Hadi recounted that after unsuccessfully trying to make the payment, he pressed the assistance button and engaged in a 10-minute conversation with a parking attendant. However, the issue remained unresolved. Faced with no other option, he gently lifted the plastic barrier, which he claimed collapsed with minimal force.

Two days later, police summoned him to a station, where he was interrogated for two hours regarding the broken barrier. He was subsequently arrested and jailed. The following day, he was brought to court, but the case remained unresolved as authorities sought additional time to investigate the incident.

Following a record-breaking year in 2024 with Total Industry Volume (TIV) reaching 813,521 units, the Malaysian automotive market experienced a downturn in January 2025. The decline was attributed to high sales in December 2024 and the impact of the Chinese New Year festive period. An estimated 50,278 vehicles were sold in January 2025, marking a 38.7% drop from the 81,987 units sold in December 2024 and a 24.9% decline from the 66,925 units recorded in January 2024.

Proton Reports Market Share Growth Despite Industry Slowdown

Amid the overall decline, Proton’s total sales for January 2025—including domestic, export, Proton e.MAS, and smart car models—stood at 9,914 units. This figure compares to 12,882 units of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars sold in January 2024. Despite the lower volume, Proton’s estimated market share rose to 19.7%, up from 18.7% last year. The company credited the performance to strong sales of the Proton e.MAS 7, a surge in exports, and three Proton models leading their respective segments.

Proton e.MAS 7 Emerges as Malaysia’s Best-Selling EV

The Proton e.MAS 7, launched on December 16, 2024, has gained significant traction in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) market. Over 4,000 units have been booked, prompting Proton to release an additional 3,000 units with launch package benefits. Deliveries began in early 2025, with 421 units reaching customers in January, making it Malaysia’s best-selling EV with a 25% share of the total EV market.

The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) has raised concerns over an increasing trend of vehicle owners using “dummy buckles” to silence seat belt alarms instead of wearing seat belts properly.

Negeri Sembilan JPJ director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf revealed that the highest number of notices issued during the special Chinese New Year operation were for seat belt violations, with 195 offences recorded. Alarmingly, more than 30% of these cases involved drivers using dummy buckles—accessories that resemble real seat belt buckles—to disable seat belt reminders.
