UMW Toyota Sdn Bhd has officially launched the all-new 2019 Toyota Yaris for the Malaysian market earlier this evening. The grand launch which took place at The Gasket Alley, Petaling Jaya finally introduced a hatchback option in the growing line-up of excellent vehicles here in the country.
With that being said, here are the top things you need to know about the all-new 2019 Toyota Yaris.
1) Similar design DNA as the 2019 Toyota Vios, only much sportier
Upon closer inspection, the 2019 Toyota Yaris can be simply put as the hatchback version of the Vios when it comes to look and feel. Its exterior is almost identical to the brand’s top-selling sedan apart from a few differences which gives it a sportier façade.
A lot more gloss black finished parts can be seen on the all-new Yaris which also accentuate that sporty look even further. This addition especially on the C-pillars give the Yaris a very athletic image as it portrays a somewhat floating roof (which is pretty cool if you ask us).
2) The all-new Yaris does not skimp on safety equipment
Toyota is known for making some of the world’s most durable and almost bulletproof cars and to further extend that package towards the safety of its occupants, the 2019 Yaris comes with a list of safety features similar to what you can find in the new Vios.
These features are (available in all three variants offered by UMW Toyota) :
- 7 SRS Airbags
- Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
- Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC)
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
- Parking Sensors
- Impact Detection Door Lock
3) Enjoy efficiency and performance with its 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine
The same 2NR-FE 1.5-litre 4-cylinder dual VVT-i engine found in the new Vios is also featured in the latest Yaris. With performance figures reaching 105hp and 140Nm of maximum torque, you can expect this baby to provide excellent fuel efficiency and overall driving comfort.
This is what we have experienced during our Toyota Vios media drive to Desaru, Johor and we expect no less from the Yaris. The engine is connected to a CVT 7-speed gearbox with Sport Sequential Shift Mode.
Versatility has been raised to another level thanks to the introduction of two extra driving modes which are Sport and ECO Mode.
4) Roll in style with those nice 16-inch wheels
The E and G variants come with 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels which gives the Yaris a ‘cutting-edge and bold exterior’ to further compliment the vehicle’s overall look. As for the base J variant, 15-inch steel wheels are the only option available.
5) Stylish interior to match your stylish lifestyle
Stepping into the Yaris gives a very bold and expressive feel which goes exceptionally well for the younger generation (and young at heart, of course). The driver is welcomed with a full-colour Multi-Information Display (MID) which shows all the info you need to have a worry-free drive (only available in the highests-spec G variant).
As for the E and J models, you can expect an analogue combination meter which also fits perfectly well with 3-spoke steering wheel (leather for G, urethane for E and J). Some of you might feel that the Yaris needs paddle shifters to complete that sporty feel but from what we’ve experienced during the Vios media drive, it drive just as well without them.
6) Affordability is the name of the game
UMW Toyota earlier estimated the 2019 Toyota Yaris will be priced at RM71,888, RM77,888, and RM84,888 during the car’s first public appearance at the Malaysia Autoshow 2019. The official prices? Check them out, below! (on-the-road prices without insurance)

7) Five different colours available for all three variants
There are five different colour options to choose from no matter which variant you choose to purchase which are Citrus Mica Metallic, Red Mica Metallic (our personal favourite!), Silver Mica Metallic, Super White II, and Attitude Black.
8) 5 years warranty for the new Yaris
Total peace of mind awaits those who plans to own their very own 2019 Toyota Yaris as it comes with a 5-year warranty from the date of first registration with unlimited mileage.
