After some 4 years in the market, the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe has received updates as the MY Edition. Besides cosmetic changes on the exterior as well as interior, the list of standard equipment has also been expanded.
Beginning with the front profile, the new coupe has been given the ‘Iconic Glow’ lighting feature for the kidney grille, with LEDs within that provide a waterfall-like illumination which cascades down the grille slats. It seems a bit gimmicky and illuminates when opening the doors, starting and switching off the ignition, and finally locking the car.
Also from the M Performance package are M exterior mirrors and the signature M emblem on the kidney grille as standard. On each corner 20-inch double-spoke style M light alloy wheels in 895 M Bicolour with front tyres sized 245/35 and 275/30 for the rear.
To highlight the car’s distinctive profile are the M Lights Shadowline and M high-gloss Shadowline with extended contents, while the M Sport brakes are finished in high-gloss black. A discreet M spoiler sits on the rear deck edge.
Bigger display panel
The dashboard now has a larger high-resolution control display, stretched to 12.3 inches to provide lots of space for information. M Sport seats are standard for the driver and front passenger, proving comfort as well as good support for the body during hard cornering.
The shifter has ‘CraftedClarity’ glass application which uses handmade glass elements that visually enhance the interior. The details of the gear selector, BMW Controller and Start/Stop button are made of fine crystal. Besides that, Carbon Fibre M interior trim finishers furnish the cabin, while the door controls are electroplated.
The air-conditioning system has dual-zone control with individual settings, while the standard audio system provided is a Bower & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system. This has a 1,400W output and provides superior sound reproduction for front and rear occupants.
4.4-litre V8 powertrain unchanged
As before, the M850i xDrive Coupe MY Edition has a 4.4-litre biturbo V8 engine under the bonnet. This delivers up to 530 ps/650 Nm to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. The output propels the 2,005 kg coupe from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 3.9 seconds and while the top speed might be more than 250 km/h, BMW has set that as the limit.
Adaptive M suspension and Integral Active Steering give the M850i xDrive MY Edition give the agility and responsiveness that are typical of BMWs without compromising on ride comfort.
Making life easier
To make the owner’s life easier, BMW uses digital technologies that make operation of functions more convenient. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is always ready to help in various ways via the iDrive or voice commands. Owners can also use the MyBMW app to connect with the car and use smart functions while Remote Software Upgrade gets the latest technical updates to the car without having to visit the service centre.
Priced from RM1,102,800 (without insurance), the M850i xDrive Coupe MY Edition is offered with either BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey Metallic or BMW Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue Metallic as exterior colours. Interior upholstery features BMW Individual Extended Leather Trim Merino, with colour choices of Black, Cognac, Ivory White, Night Blue, Tartufo and Fiona Red.
