Volkswagen ID.X Performance Concept EV Debuts With 550hp

Volkswagen is ramping up its commitment to high-performance electric vehicles (EVs) with the introduction of the ID.X Performance concept car. This concept is part of Volkswagen’s broader electrification strategy, which includes performance-focused models like the ID.GTI and GTX variants.

The ID.X Performance concept is based on the ID.7 sedan but deviates significantly from its standard counterpart in terms of appearance and performance.

It showcases several distinctive design elements and features, highlighting its sporty and performance-oriented character.

Firstly, the front end of the concept car undergoes a dramatic transformation, marked by a large black grille positioned at the base of the front bumper. This bold grille design exudes a strong and aggressive visual presence. Additionally, matching vents are strategically placed at each corner of the front fascia, contributing to the car’s sporty appearance and possibly aiding in aerodynamics.

Moving to the rear of the ID.X Performance, a carbon fibre diffuser serves both functional and aesthetic purposes. It enhances the car’s aerodynamic efficiency, reducing drag and potentially increasing downforce. The use of carbon fibre also adds a touch of high-performance, racing-inspired style to the rear design.

Atop the trunk lid, there is a massive rear spoiler that contributes to aerodynamic stability and sporty aesthetics.

The concept car is adorned with red trim accents that encircle the entire car, creating a visually appealing contrast against the predominantly black elements of the car’s exterior. This striking red detailing not only adds a sporty touch but also reinforces the concept’s performance-oriented character.

The ID.X Performance concept features chunky black plastic covers over the wheel wells. Within these wheel wells, the car houses a set of 20-inch sport alloys, which come equipped with specially designed racing rubber. These wheels and tires are intended to enhance the car’s performance capabilities, providing superior grip and handling for an exhilarating driving experience.

In terms of the car’s stance and handling, the entire car sits 60mm lower than the traditional ID.7, emphasising its sportier and more dynamic character.

Under the hood, the ID.X Performance concept utilises Volkswagen’s MEB architecture, which serves as the foundation for most modern Volkswagens EVs. It is equipped with two electric motors that deliver a combined output of 550hp, highlighting its high-performance capabilities. Additionally, similar to the ID.7, the concept car boasts a DC fast charging capacity of 200 kilowatts, ensuring quick and convenient charging for extended driving range and usability.

While the ID.X Performance concept is an exciting showcase of Volkswagen’s electric vehicle capabilities, there is no official confirmation regarding its production plans. However, Volkswagen has already confirmed the development of another variant of the ID.7, known as the ID.7 GTX.

The ID.7 GTX is expected to carry forward the sporty and aggressive design cues seen in the concept, including aggressive accents and improved aerodynamics.
