Jaguar F-PACE

Jaguar is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a special edition of the F-PACE luxury performance SUV, showcasing the brand’s legacy of design, performance, and innovation as it moves towards an all-electric future. This new version of the F-PACE is distinguished by a unique ’90 Anniversary’ badge and incorporates exterior details from the R-Dynamic trim. It features special body paints, tinted glass, and diamond alloy wheels in sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches.

Inside, the F-PACE includes sports seats with contrast stitching, an ebony-trimmed roof, and aluminium inserts, along with advanced technology such as 3D surround-view cameras.

The available engines include 163PS and 204PS mild hybrid diesels, as well as a 404PS plug-in hybrid. However, the 400PS mild hybrid petrol and the supercharged V8 with 575PS and 700Nm of torque from the SVR variant are not included in this edition.

This special edition marks the end of the current F-PACE lineup as Jaguar prepares for its transformation into a fully electrified brand by 2025. The first step in this transformation will be the debut of a new GT model, based on a dedicated platform, which is expected to be unveiled as a concept later this year.

This anniversary edition not only celebrates Jaguar’s past achievements but also signifies its commitment to a sustainable, electrified future while maintaining the luxury and performance that define the brand.

The F-PACE, Jaguar’s first SUV, has been in the global market since 2016 and over the past 6 years, it has been selling well and even winning the overall World Car of the Year award in 2017. It appeared in Malaysia in 2018 and like many SUVs in the premium luxury segment, it has not had a shortage of buyers.

With its success, it’s clear that the F-PACE ticks all the right boxes for customers and has been a well designed and engineered product from the outset. But it has been 6 years and in an industry where someone is introducing something new every month, periodic refreshing of the looks and enhancing the features list is necessary to keep the model fresh.

Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) has now begun selling the 2022 model of the F-PACE which has some cosmetic changes on the outside and updated features within. While the overall form and profile are unchanged, the sculpted bonnet has a wider power bulge for a stronger presence.

The lighting units are new and super-slim (10 mm slimmer) all-LED quad headlights that give stronger illumination. At the same time, they also create greater visual width. The lights have a ‘Double J’ signature graphic formed with the Daytime Running Lights to identify the F-PACE from a distance.

At the rear, the new tailgate accentuates the visual width of the vehicle and below it is a redesigned lower bumper. The new fully LED rear lights with sculpted lenses are inspired by the fully electric I-PACE and feature Jaguar’s chicane graphic.

The cabin of the F-PACE has an elegant ambience merged with elements of engineering ingenuity. The revised cockpit area has a bolder, more dynamic look with greater focus on the driver. The new Drive Selector epitomises Jaguar’s approach to contemporary controls. The soft upper trim wraps round the ‘palm grip’ and proudly features a ‘cricket-ball’ stitch, inspired by iconic British craftsmanship. Below, the precision-engineered metal cradle is sculpted for added tactility and an engaging quality feel.

The centrally mounted 11.4-inch curved-glass HD touchscreen is the control centre for the new Pivo Pro infotainment system. Besides more intuitive operations, it also provides greater clarity for ease of viewing in any lighting conditions. Its simplified menu structure (mimicking a smartphone interface) allows the driver to carry out 90% of common tasks within two taps from the home screen. This reduces the time spent looking towards the display panel, which is safer when driving.

The Pivo Pro system can also connect to compatible smartphones using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto which can put favourite apps like Waze or Spotify on the display panel, and they can be operated from the touchscreen. The wireless approach extends to charging too as there is a charging pad available.

Though the cabin size is unchanged, there is a feeling of extra spaciousness with softer forms and dramatic contrasting use of colour at eye-level. One trick used by the interior designers: light-coloured finishes on lower sections of the cabin which immerse the interior in one tone, visually enhancing the sense of space.

The 5-seater cabin has exquisitely crafted leather upholstery with the rear seats having a 40:20:40 division so that there is flexibility to carry extra cargo or people. With the seats folded, there’s a long floor all the way to the back seats, ideal for bringing home furniture packs from IKEA.

“By offering modern luxury with this latest evolution of the award-winning F-PACE, we are raising the bar even further with this best-in-class SUV, which combines practicality, performance and comfort with a distinctive look and cutting-edge technologies. Everything in the design and the specifications, from the sleeker silhouette and all-new Drive Selector to the spacious and luxe interior equipped with an intuitive infotainment system, are all geared towards ensuring an enriched driving experience,” said Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia.

“Tapping into the positive growth prospects for the luxury car segment as well as  the SUV segment in Malaysia, the Jaguar F-PACE bridges both worlds as a globally renowned premium SUV. This is part of Sime Darby Motor's continuous expansion of our range of vehicles through new and exciting models,” added Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director, Retail and Distribution of Sime Darby Motors Malaysia.

Priced from RM598,800 (inclusive of sales tax but without roadtax, registration fees and insurance) the latest F-PACE is available only in the R-Dynamic version. This has a 2-litre 4-cylinder 250 ps/365 Nm Ingenium petrol engine.

Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) has introduced the latest limited edition F-PACE, Jaguar’s best-selling performance SUV, with the 2.0-litre, turbocharged Ingenium petrol engine.

Only 20 units in three variants have been imported, with prices ranging from RM436,420.82 to RM485,433.81 (for private-use registration in Peninsular Malaysia; excluding road tax and insurance).

Lightweight Aluminium Architecture
Like the Lightweight Aluminium Architecture Jaguar developed for its models, the Ingenium 4-cylinder engine has all-aluminium construction to keep weight low. With a twin scroll turbocharger, maximum output is 300 ps at 5500 rpm with 400 Nm of torque available between 1500 and 4500 rpm.

The F-PACE, which has all-wheel drive, has a claimed 0 – 100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds and can reach a top speed of 233 km/h (with 22-inch wheels fitted).

The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission has a pendulum damper in the torque converter that absorbs low frequency vibrations. This enables the engine to run more smoothly at lower speeds.

Advanced chassis technologies
The chassis also has advanced Jaguar proprietary technologies such as Configurable and Adaptive Dynamics. The Configurable Dynamics, standard on the R-Sport variant, allows drivers to choose Normal or Sports settings for the throttle response, gearbox and steering.

Adaptive Dynamics (only available in the top variants) modifies the damper response to match the different conditions and driving style. It analyses acceleration, cornering, throttle and brake pedal activity to optimise the suspension settings for the best vehicle dynamics and comfort.

Jaguar F-PACE

The three variants offered are the F-PACE Prestige (entry level), R-Sport (Mid-Spec) and R-Sport (Hi-Spec) with 6 colour options. All vehicles distributed by JLRM are compatible with the Malaysian climate, environment and fuel quality as well as meet the Malaysian emission standard. They come with a ‘Jaguar Care’ programme which includes a 5-year warranty, 5 years of free scheduled service and 3 years of roadside assistance.

Jaguar’s The Art of Performance Tour will make its debut in Malaysia this month, as part of its tour across the Asia Pacific importer region. First introduced in Europe in 2016, the multi-city tour is a unique driving experience that provides consumers the opportunity to get up close and personal with the new, modern lineup of Jaguar vehicles.

Held from 16 to 18 March at the Setia City Convention Centre, The Art of Performance Tour Malaysia promises an unforgettable and thrilling driving experience. The public can look forward to putting the Jaguar XE, XF and F-PACE through their paces on a dynamic driving circuit, an on-road drive as well as Jaguar’s innovative Smart Cones course.

Unpredictable with a million different potential courses, Smart Cones is designed to measure the drivers’ skill and exploit the cars’ precise and agile handling. Inspired by the agility training game known as ‘Batak’, the system uses wireless technology to produce both a predetermined and a random course of intelligent illuminating cones, notifying drivers of their next target with only a moment’s notice.

As the car is driven, its precise co-ordinates are measured in relation to the cones and sent to a central computer system 100 times per second to track its performance. Every driver gets a score report that takes into account the model of the car used and driving conditions.

In addition to the driving experience, participants will also be among the first in Malaysia to preview and test drive the F-PACE 2.0L model, which will be launched in Malaysia this April. The F-PACE’s new 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium powertrain features a single twin-scroll turbo that produces 250PS and 365Nm of torque from only 1,200rpm. The F-PACE has also been designed and engineered for the most stringent global crash test requirements while reducing vehicle weight.

The 2017 Jaguar F-PACE has been named the winner of the 2017 World Car of the Year and won the World Car Design of the Year Award at the New York International Auto Show. In Malaysia, the F-PACE was a winner in the SUV and Crossover category (RM500,001 – RM700,000) at the 2017 Malaysian Car of The Year Awards, which was organised under the auspices of the Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI).

To participate in the Art of Performance Tour Malaysia, members of the public must register at http://www.jaguar.com.my/promotions-events/the-art-of-performance-tour. Existing Jaguar-Land Rover customers are also invited to the event.

Jaguar Land Rover has racked up another accolade and this time, its for the highly sought after F-PACE. It was awarded World Car of the Year and World Design Car of the Year 2017 by a panel of jurors. The mild off-roader has been tasked with leading Jaguar’s foray into uncharted waters for the UK based automaker, which is the SUV market.

Prior to the introduction of the F-PACE, Jaguar, since its inception, has never produced an SUV before. And as such, getting it right on your first attempt, is a remarkable feat that deserves praise. Like the rest of the current line-up the SUV shares the same design language utilised by the XF and XE cars. The prominent honeycomb grille occupies most of the front fascia and are complemented by the equally wide projector headlamps.

Overall, the proportions of the exterior have been well thought out and designed with respectable attention to detail. As a result, its no surprise that Jag walked home with both awards. And to commemorate the win, the UK representatives of the panel of jurors visited Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant, the location where the F-PACE is being produced.

Steve Fowler, World Car of the Year Juror and Editor in Chief at Auto Express said, “It’s been wonderful to present these awards to the Solihull workforce. The Jaguar F-PACE looks great, looks sporty and it looks like a Jaguar should. It’s built brilliantly.”

Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Dr. Ralf Speth and Solihull Operations Director Nigel Blenkinsop were handed the awards by World Car of the Year. Later, Blenkinsop paid tribute to the Solihull workforce who were responsible for the manufacture of the F-PACE as well as contributing to it being the fastest selling Jaguar of all time.

The F-PACE will face some serious competition as it goes up against more established models from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. However, based on past experiences, Jaguar has managed to carve out a section of the market due to its unique styling, sporty attributes and general appeal of the brand. We shall have to wait and see if it’s looks are able to win over many potential buyers and provide the brand with better sales numbers.
