Tyres

Modern day cars, especially the higher end ones, are fitted with tyre pressure monitoring systems or TPMS. And even if that isn’t the case with lower end ones, there are plethora of aftermarket kits that offer the same level of functionality if not more.

A tyre pressure monitoring system does have its advantages. It serves as an early warning system to drivers, notifying them when there is a sudden drop in tyre pressure, which could indicate a puncture. This will allow him/her enough time to get the problem sorted out before its too late.

Apart from this, TPMS can also indicate to drivers when the air in each tyre requires topping up. As soon as air pressures drop below the normal values, TPMS will activate an indication light on the meter cluster to warn drivers of an issue.

Though this may seem like a Godsend, TyreSafe, a company in the UK has taken it upon itself to remind vehicle owners that they shouldn’t rely solely on TPMS for tyre safety. TPMS has its uses, it has proven to have improved driver awareness as far as tyre pressures are concerned.

That said, TPMS does not warn drivers of the condition of their tyres and whether they have sufficient tread depth left. These two criteria are just as important as air pressures are, when it comes to tyre safety. Tyres that have heavily degraded could disintegrate at any moment in time, posing a major threat to vehicle safety.

TPMS is a reliable technology and should work well for a significant amount of time, but this does not mean that they are safe from malfunctions or failures. This is because batteries of the wheel-mounted sensors can ran out of power or the sensors themselves, can provide inaccurate readings over time.

This is why the UK based company is urging vehicle owners to remain vigilant and ensure that their TPMS is monitored regularly for signs of failure. This way, the chances of them failing could be considerably less than usual.

Your tyres are what connect your vehicle to the road. And regardless of how sophisticated your on-board electronic driver aids are, they won’t be able to do much good if the tyres aren’t up to the task at hand. Looking after your tyres are just as important as the attention given to the engine and gearbox.

Bridgestone Malaysia has unveiled their latest Passenger Radial ECOPIA EP300 tyre. The next generation tyre promises better fuel savings, high level grip even in the wet and long lasting which also means that the ECOPIA EP300 is eco friendly as well.

With the tagline “When You Want It All”, the latest generation in the ECOPIA tyre range delivers all-round performance which is perfect for consumers wanting that perfectly balanced tyre for the road.

The EP300 tyre is designed with low rolling resistance which in turn helps to improve your vehicle’s fuel consumption as well. Better fuel consumption also means that it can reduce the vehicle’s carbon footprint in the environment making it very eco-friendly. On average use, the EP300 promises an extra 11.2km distance travel per full tank of petrol when compared to the previous EP200.

“Most drivers desire a way to achieve better fuel efficiency that translates into fuel savings. However, despite how careful drivers can be on the accelerator, if a vehicle is not equipped with the optimum
eco-tyres, achieving good fuel efficiency and economy will be a challenge,” commented Tai Kawasaki, Managing Director of Bridgestone Asia Pacific Technical Centre.

“With the new ECOPIA EP300, we aim to bring drivers the best possible return from their vehicles while allowing them to do their part for the environment, as lower rolling resistance brings reduced CO2 emissions.”

Another great feature of the EP300 tyre is its enhanced NanoPro-Tech with a new polymer designed for superior grip especially in the wet weather conditions. The new tread pattern offers higher contact area for better grip together with anti-hydroplaning performance for superior level of safety. While most tyres that offer superior grip sacrifices comfort, the EP300 offers the best of both worlds by providing better handling and reduced noise.

For those looking for that long-terms savings, you can rest easy with the ECOPIA EP300 which is design features like a new tread design to improve stiffness and increase the lifespan. New highlights like deeper lug length, round rib edge and chamfering sipe all promote longer lifespan with even wear and performance throughout the tyre’s lifespan.

There will be 13 different sizes available progressively in the Asia Pacific markets soon ranging from RM180 to RM450 (excluding GST). For more information, you may visit any of the authorised Bridgestone dealers near you.

Global tyremaker Goodyear, has launched its new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 here in Malaysia. Apparently, the tyre will offer 31% better wear performance and shorter braking distances on dry and wet roads compared to its predecessor.

“Goodyear is known for its commitment to innovate and to offer superior performing products to its consumers. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 is designed to suit the needs of consumers in Malaysia, and tested to Goodyear’s highest standards to provide confidence that it will perform on the region’s roads. It has also been accredited as original equipment for some of the world’s leading cars such as the Jaguar XF, Mercedes E-Class, the BMW 5 series, Alfa Romeo Guilia, Chevrolet Camaro and the Porsche Panamera,” said Ben Hoge, Managing Director of Goodyear Malaysia Berhad.

The new tyre incorporates new technology that allow it to deliver better grip, longer life and improved braking distances. It’s Grip Booster Technology has a grip booster compound and adhesive resin, that deliver better grip characteristics. Active Braking Technology increases the contact surface of the tyre, increasing the grip levels, which then allow for shorter braking distances.

Goodyear utilized a new reinforced construction technology for the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, allowing it to be strong yet still retain its lightweight properties, which will improve a vehicle’s handling and cornering characteristics as well as reduce tread ware but increase fuel efficiency.

Confident of its latest creation, Goodyear handed over the new tyre to Dekra and TUV to conduct the various tests. Based on Dekra’s results, the Eagle F1 Asymetric 3 offers up to 11,500km extra service life which is about 31% better wear compared to competitor tyres.

TUV found that Goodyear’s tyre offered 2.6m shorter stopping distances on wet roads, 1.3m in dry roads and 4% better handling in rainy conditions. The tests also revealed that the Goodyear tyre offered the second best rolling resistance of all tyre brands that were tested.
