2019 Proton Saga launched – From RM32,800

The folks from Proton have finally unveiled the updated 2019 Proton Saga earlier today in true spectacular fashion at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) Kuala Lumpur. Paired with the tagline, “Intelligent Proposition”, the updated Saga comes with a host of upgrades in terms of looks and equipment.

Like the rest of the updated models introduced previously (2019 Proton Persona & Proton Iriz), the 2019 Proton Saga has also been injected with the same design DNA found in Proton’s flagship premium SUV model, the X70. Being one of the most affordable sedans here in the country, the new Saga offers what Proton calls ‘supreme style, smart savings, super stability’.

Starting with the exterior looks, the new Saga has been refreshed with a more refined look from the front all the way to the rear. The front façade houses the signature ‘Infinite Weave’ front grille most Malaysians have come to love. This is further complemented with a new front bumper and if you opt for the top-of-the-line Premium model, you’ll also get a set of LED daytime running lights.

The Premium variant is also garnished with a beautiful set of 15-inch alloy wheels while the Standard Manual and Standard Automatic come with 14-inch steel and 14-inch alloy wheels respectively. Modern clean lines can be seen flowing through the sides and upon arriving at its rear, you’ll get that new Proton look and feel.

Apart from getting the Proton letter emblem, there’s also the new integrated rear spoiler and rear bumper which come as standard across the board for all three variants. All these design updates give the 2019 Proton Saga a more refined and modern look where most Malaysians will appreciate.

The 2019 Proton Saga is powered by an updated 1.3-litre four-cylinder VVT engine that produces around 94hp at 5,750rpm and 120Nm of maximum torque at 4,000rpm. All that power is sent to a new four-speed automatic transmission (five-speed for the MT model).

Proton also stated that the updated Saga now has improved NVH, better braking performance as well as overall ride and handling.

Step inside the cabin and you’re welcomed with new fabric upholstery for the seats, new centre panel, sun visor with ticket holder and mirror, and new headlining with foldable assist grip (only for Premium and Standard AT models).

For the Premium model, a 7-inch touchscreen monitor with smartphone connectivity (Android only) and Bluetooth capability which offers great audio quality through its four speakers (two for Standard MT and AT).
