2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain Is A Lifted Wagon

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain marks its debut as a versatile, high-riding, all-wheel-drive wagon. This model caters to customers seeking a model that can handle light off-roading adventures, such as traversing dirt or gravel paths, all while avoiding the bulkiness of an SUV.

The All-Terrain model distinguishes itself from the sedan with a unique front grille design, featuring two bars accented by an elegant Iridium Silver finish at the center. The lower fascia has also been revised to complement this distinctive look.

To enhance its rugged appeal, the wagon incorporates dark grey cladding on the wheel arches. While the standard configuration includes 18-inch wheels, customers have the option to upgrade to 19- or even 20-inch sizes to tailor the wagon’s appearance to their preferences.

The wagon offers a generous cargo area with a storage capacity of 614 litres, and this space can be significantly expanded to 1829 litres by folding down the rear seats. In contrast, the E-Class sedan’s trunk provides 538 litres of storage. Convenience features for the All-Terrain model include a standard power tailgate and a retractable luggage cover, making loading and unloading cargo hassle-free while maintaining a neat and secure interior.

The E-Class All-Terrain boasts dimensions with a length of 4953mm, a width of 1905mm, and a height of 1496mm. In contrast, the E-Class Sedan measures slightly differently, with a length of 4947mm, a width of 1879mm, and a height of 1480mm. These measurements highlight the subtle variations in size between the two models, with the All-Terrain offering slightly more length, width, and height compared to the Sedan variant.

The All-Terrain is available in the form of the mild-hybrid E 450 4Matic, equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine. This powertrain delivers 375hp within the rpm range of 5,800 to 6,100, along with a robust 500Nm of torque. Complementing this setup is the electric Boost system, contributing an additional 23hp and 204Nm of torque. With these combined capabilities, the wagon can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in an estimated 4.6 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 209km/h, making it a compelling choice for those seeking both performance and versatility in their wagon.

It also includes Mercedes’ Airmatic single-chamber air suspension with continuously adjustable damping as a standard feature. This system ensures a consistent ground clearance, regardless of its load. Notably, in the Comfort setting, the suspension undergoes a 0.6-inch reduction in height at speeds exceeding 120km/h, optimising aerodynamics and stability.

Inside the cabin, it features the same Mercedes MBUX Superscreen infotainment display system found in the sedan variant. For those who desire it, there’s an option to add a front passenger screen. Additionally, the All-Terrain introduces an Off-Road driving program, which reconfigures the driver and central screens to display essential off-road information such as a compass, latitude and longitude coordinates, vehicle angle indicator, and tire pressures. To enhance visibility of the surrounding terrain, a “transparent hood” function is included as part of the 360-degree camera system, aiding drivers during off-road adventures.

The standard safety package for the wagon encompasses key features such as attention assist, active brake assist, and a parking package, ensuring a solid foundation of safety for drivers and passengers. For those seeking even more advanced safety capabilities, the optional Driver Assistance Package becomes available. This package enhances the wagon’s safety with features like active steering assist, active lane keeping assist, active speed limit assist, and adaptive cruise control, providing a comprehensive suite of driver-assist technologies for an elevated level of safety and convenience during your journeys.

The public unveiling of this model is scheduled to take place at the upcoming IAA Mobility event in Munich, where more information about pricing, configurations, and availability is expected to be announced.
