Toyota GR Malaysia Sets Sights on Defending Title at 2023 Sepang Endurance Race

Toyota Gazoo Racing Malaysia is gearing up for the 2023 Sepang 1000 KM Endurance Race (S1K) with a focus on defending the overall title they secured the previous year. The team plans to enter a Toyota Vios in the MTC Class, with drivers Tengku Djan Ley Tengku Mahaleel and Naquib Azlan returning to the competition. Additionally, dealer team Wing Hin Motorsports will participate with two Toyota Yaris cars in the MTC Class, driven by Boy Wong and former Gazoo Racing Rookie Class driver Amer Harris.

The S1K event will also feature the third edition of the Gazoo Racing (GR) Vios Enduro Cup within the SP2 Class. This cup has gained popularity as a season finale for drivers already engaged in the GR Vios Challenge and GR Vios Sprint Cup. The GR Vios Enduro Cup attracts a diverse range of drivers, including teenagers, a father and son duo, a husband and wife team, and several female drivers.

In the SP2 Class and GR Vios Enduro Cup, 11 cars are expected to compete, with notable contenders like the Axle Sports pair of Alister Yoong and 2023 Vios Challenge Rookie class champion Ariff Azmi. Another strong contender is the 23 Motors team, with Abdul Miqail and Amir Mirza, both regulars in the GR Vios Challenge. The GR Vios Enduro Cup will also see the debut of the father and son team of Shanmuganathan Arumugam and Ashen Shanmuganathan, the husband and wife pair of Shafiq Samsudin and Shasha Shafie, and two female drivers, Adele Lew and Nurul Auni Nasharuddin.

The GR Vios Enduro Cup offers cash prizes, with RM10,000 for the first-place winner, RM8,000 for the second, RM6,000 for the third, RM4,000 for the fourth, and RM2,000 for the fifth-place winner. This participation not only underscores racing achievements but also emphasises the durability, reliability, and handling of the Toyota Vios and Yaris in challenging race conditions.
