While Castrol is a leading name in the automotive and motorsports world as one of the leading lubricant companies, the brand also has a presence in non-automotive events such as the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship. With its sponsorship of such world-class events, supported by various campaigns and activities, the brand has had exposure globally along with its versatile range of high-performance lubricants.

This year, Castrol’s presence in the football world will grow even further with the signing of an exclusive sponsorship with the English Premier League (EPL) for 2½ years, commencing from January 2022. As the most-watched football league on the planet, the EPL is broadcast in 212 territories to over 543 million homes, with a potential viewership of 4.7 billion.

Through this sponsorship, Castrol aims to showcase its evolving serve and maintenance business and provide an avenue to many customers to engage in two things they are passionate about – automotive and football.

Castrol subsidiaries around the world will also be having activities relating to the EPL sponsorship and in Malaysia, there will be various digital activations for the digital presence of Castrol Malaysia. One such activity will invite Malaysians to share their individual recreations of memorable football moments on social media in the ‘Castrol EPL Original Moment’ contest. There will also be bi-weekly activities for social media users where questions and games related to football matches will be asked. Castrol Malaysia and Continental Tyres Malaysia to collaborate in offering products and services

Castrol Malaysia celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Castrol Auto Service (CAS) business concept in the country. Introduced in 2002 for independent workshop dealers, this business concept provides support through a comprehensive workshop solution that enables the dealers to offer motorists the best levels of customer service through quality, professionalism, and transparency.

CAS has been serving and thriving in Malaysia since starting off with 3 workshops. By 2008, it opened its 100th outlet and two years later, the first CAS dealer began operations in East Malaysia. With the growing vehicle population, increased demand for workshop services saw the  300th outlet opening in 2013. This was followed by the launch of the Castrol Certified Branded Workshop.

The early days when CAS made its appearance, starting with just 3 branded workshops.

With their extensive length of service across the Malaysian automotive industry, CAS dealers have proven their expertise, knowledge, and prowess; with 60% among CAS workshops having been in operations for more than 5 years, and 30% serving customers for a decade. Additionally, CAS dealer coverage network is vast throughout the country, with notable presence in key regions of the Klang Valley and Johor Bahru.

The milestone of 500 outlets was reached in 2021 and with over 500 outlets today in  the 20th year, Castrol is having an exclusive promotion to celebrate. For its loyal customers who have been supporting CAS throughout the years, A complimentary CAS 20 years X English Premier League (EPL) inverted umbrella will be given with the purchase any Castrol EDGE 4-litre products from any participating CAS outlets (while stocks last).

Castrol EDGE is a fully synthetic engine oil developed to provide maximum engine protection and performance. It is ideal for today’s smaller, yet more powerful, engines that work harder than ever before. Castrol EDGE with patented Fluid Titanium transforms its structure under pressure to keep metal apart, lowering friction for maximum engine performance. This allows the engine to deliver high performance and fuel efficiency and this has been proven in many independent tests.

Over the last 20 years, CAS has outperformed its peers with an array of programmes organised for its mechanics and customers. Among them are the CAS ‘Service & Win’ campaign, Castrol Cars Super Mechanic Contest, and CAS Forum & Appreciation Dinner.

Additionally, CAS outlets are active participants of the long-running Castrol Hari Mekanik Malaysia (HMM) campaign since 2019. This campaign continues to raise awareness to the public to appreciate the mechanic community, who are an essential part of the society and its welfare.

This year, Castrol HMM partnered with EPL for a merrier celebration on a larger scale. CAS is part of the ongoing Castrol KitaCare, an initiative launched during the pandemic to provide a safe solution to car maintenance, enhanced convenience for customers to service their cars with a reduced waiting period in a safe and hygienic environment.

Castrol also introduced the Castrol Loyalty Program in 2004. The program was migrated onto a digital platform in 2012 to inspire new customer loyalty through digital communication via the Castrol Motorist App. The app was recently upgraded to allow customers to enjoy more rewards and greater convenience with various built-in features. Through the enhanced app, customers can earn and redeem Castrol products with Castrol Points at all participating CAS workshops, getting notifications for their next car service, latest events updates and promotions.

“Castrol is extremely proud of the CAS journey in the past two decades. CAS now has over 500 outlets, a long way from our humble start of only 3 outlets in 2002 – and on the right track to launching more CAS outlets in the future. We are grateful to have our mechanics alongside us celebrating Castrol Malaysia’s milestones and progress. We are committed to bringing in more initiatives and efforts to support our dealers,” said Keow Mei-Shan, Marketing Director of Castrol Malaysia & Singapore.

“Our customers are a big part of our journey, and we’d like to thank them for being with us throughout the years. With plans to further expand our CAS network, we look forward to witnessing the community grow to become more comprehensive and close-knit so we are able to continuously provide an overall great experience to our customers,” she said.

Castrol, one of the world’s leading lubricant brands, is back for the fourth consecutive year with a unique celebration of Castrol Hari Mekanik Malaysia (HMM) on March 18, 2022. This year’s event – the only one of its kind in Malaysia – takes on a unique theme: ‘The Game Changers’, in honor of the unsung heroes of every vehicle owner’s life.

As has been the story of Castrol Hari Mekanik Malaysia since the beginning, this marks an extension of Castrol’s efforts in paying tribute to the mechanics of Malaysia, a deserving community that has been a backbone of the brand for many years. Castrol HMM 2022 will be a fully virtual experience, with various activities planned, including social media contests, jersey giveaways and engagement with influential KOLs (key opinion leaders).

To take things a step further, Castrol HMM 2022 marks the first-ever collaboration opportunity ith the English Premier League (EPL), in line with the theme. As the most-watched football league in the world, the EPL is broadcasted in 212 territories to 643 million homes, with a potential TV audience of 4.7 billion viewers. The league brings together millions of fans worldwide like no other; and Malaysia is no exception.

This collaboration explores the dynamics of mechanics and footballers as kindred spirits, with the same drive and hard work to strive to live their passion and achieve their goals. Mechanics, like the rest of us, love and enjoy football, which has been a big part of the Malaysian lepak culture for years. Castrol hopes to alleviate the love and respect the people of Malaysia have for our mechanics via this partnership with the EPL.

To commemorate the event, Castrol will be giving away exclusive Castrol X EPL merchandise, which include jerseys, caps, and flasks. This merchandise will also be a part of the social media contest. With an aim to provide social media users an avenue to channel their loyalty to Castrol and love for football, Castrol hopes to get to the masses with a nationwide reach, therefore encouraging more participants to celebrate our local mechanics. Participants of the contest will have to snap a photo of themselves in their favourite football jersey or Castrol t-shirt with either their car or bike and with the background of any Castrol branded workshop; and proceed to post their photo on Facebook or Instagram with the caption of thanking or appreciating their mechanic.

The most liked Facebook or Instagram post with the hashtags #CastrolHariMekanik and #CastrolEPL will win exclusive Castrol X EPL merchandise.

“Castrol is proud to have selected “The Game Changers” theme for 2022 as a tribute and respect to our local mechanics. This year’s celebration is extra special for us, as we have EPL joining us in honouring our mechanics. In the past few years, the pandemic has affected the lives of many of us. The mechanic community, despite facing the loss of livelihood due to various economic restrictions, soldiered on and performed their duty in attending to our vehicles with dedication, and meticulousness. We are grateful to Malaysia’s mechanic community, along with the other frontliners, for having our back during trying times,” said Keow Mei-Shan, Marketing Director of Castrol Malaysia & Singapore.

“We hope our event will bring more awareness to the dedication and selflessness of mechanics in our country, and via this online campaign, we look forward to having as many Malaysians join our cause,” she concluded.

In the preliminary round, the nominated mechanics will be required to answer a series of online questions designed specifically to test their professionalism, attitude and qualities that would qualify them as an ‘Unsung Hero’. The top 20 nominees with the highest score will be shortlisted for the second round and only 15 individuals from each category will be shortlisted into the final round by an automotive professional body after conducting an evaluation with a set of criteria.

In the final round, members of the public will be called to vote and the top 10 winners each from the car/truck and the motorcycle categories would be presented the coveted ‘Castrol Unsung Heroes’ Award and trophies. Winners in the car/truck category will also be rewarded with an automotive training course to elevate their skills, competencies and abilities at the School of Skills.

“We want to acknowledge the importance of mechanics – the unsung heroes who leave a positive impact in our everyday lives. The key areas requiring attention is longevity and continuity and therefore we want to enhance the profile and empower the mechanics community through this campaign. We hope this will inspire others to contribute to the Malaysian community, as mechanics do every single day,” said Ms Keow.
