Federal Highway

The driver of a garbage truck involved in an accident claims to have experienced brake problems before losing control of the heavy vehicle, which subsequently collided with 14 cars along the Federal Highway yesterday.

As reported by NST, Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao, the Klang Utara police chief, stated that to verify the 41-year-old driver’s claims, the lorry will be sent to Puspakom for inspection.

The incident occurred at 2:33 pm at the traffic lights of Federal Highway and Shahpadu Highway from Shah Alam towards Kapar. Initial investigations revealed that the heavy vehicle collided with the 14 cars that were queued at the traffic light junction.

Wow. I’m not sure if I’m angry or just very, very disappointed in The Star Online, for this utter drivel. Honestly, I expected a LOT more from one of the more respected media houses in the country. While I’m quite sure the writer of this article published today (screenshot below) is not a biker…

…what’s even more ridiculous is that the writer didn’t even bother to do a little bit of research before writing this nonsensical rant of an article, (some rempit probably pissed him off today) because if he had done so, he’d realise that as of today, September 15th 2018, the Federal Highway bike lanes are still officially CLOSED. Check out this video which I just went out to shoot if you need visual proof… Location: Motorola heading to KL.

And as you can clearly see from this photo below as well, the entrances to the bike lanes along the Federal Highway are closed in many places, necessitating the need for bikes to use the main highway. As I said in the video, I don’t want to use the main part of the highway, none of us do, it’s horrendously jammed most of the time, and a lot more dangerous for bikers to use than a dedicated bike lane.

The bike lanes on both sides of the Federal Highway were supposed to be opened for use in March this year by the way, but they’re still closed..

Would you like to see the most laughable aspect of this bullshit article? Check out the main photo that was used in it below… You can clearly see the entrance to the bike lane is closed even in their own picture, and the arrow is directing bikes to use the main highway! Shoot yourself in the foot much Star Online? What rubbish. – Chris Wee.

Our sister site, BikesRepublic.com published an article where it was reported that a Proton Iriz owner had ventured into the motorcycle lane of the Federal Highway and ended up in a bit of a pickle near the Mid-Valley-Puchong section.

We aren’t too sure whether this was an honest mistake or a deliberate attempt by the driver to bypass the infamous daily Federal Highway bumper to bumper crawl. And it’s still unclear what exactly transpired that led to the car ending up wedged between a drain and the adjacent parapet.

It’s possible that the car may have lost traction, veered of the road and ended up with its left tyres in the ditch. Or it could have been equally likely that, the car wound up there due to the driver’s lapse in judgement whilst attempting to maneuver past the bollards.

Either way, this wouldn’t be the first time that a four-wheeled vehicle has entered an area that is essentially designated for two-wheelers. Such a move is usually attempted by errant drivers who try to ‘cut queue’ or beat the traffic jam completely in an attempt to shave significant time off their daily commute.

Though this might come as news to many car drivers, the motorcyclist lanes on the Federal Highway are considered unsafe by many road users due to the many hazards along the way, which include flooding, poor visibility and road surfaces that have degraded to an unsafe level. Many motorcyclists and media outlets have been quite vocal about this, and we hope that the authorities take appropriate measures to ensure that steps are taken to improve the road conditions there.

As the Raya holiday season approaches, we here at Piston urge our readers to exercise caution while on the road. Leave the shenanigans of speeding and racing for the racetrack and instead, drive within the speed limit at all times. For more tips on how to prepare your vehicle for the journey home, click here.
