Naza Kia Malaysia, the official distributor of KIA vehicles in Malaysia, proudly introduces the KIA Mega Merdeka campaign with exclusive deals and value-added privileges for the Kia Cerato 1.6 SX and the Kia Picanto EX, as a tribute to the 61st Merdeka nationwide celebrations for all Malaysians to enjoy before the SST kicks in come September.

Take this golden opportunity to purchase any of the two models where throughout the campaign, the Kia Cerato 1.6 SX is offered at an exclusive price starting from RM83,032.45 (on-the-road without insurance) while the Kia Picanto EX is available starting from RM47,079.43 (on-the-road without insurance). Both come with Kia’s standard 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage for that added boost. Apart from the limited-time prices for the KIA Mega Merdeka, customers will also receive a free Red One SIM card for every purchase of the Kia Cerato 1.6 SX or Picanto EX in the month of August, and a special privilege available for Cerato 1.6 SX models only – free maintenance service for first three years including parts and labour fees for a hassle-free car maintenance experience.

The KIA Cerato 1.6 SX gives off a sophisticated vibe with its attractive styling, fluid appearance and advanced convenience. On the road, the KIA Cerato’s aggressive exterior matches its prowess underneath the hood and also comes with a motor-driven power steering (MDPS), Bluetooth connectivity, push-start ignition, an 8” touchscreen display with rear view camera and enhanced safety features, among others. On the other hand, the Picanto EX variant is uniquely modern, designed with safety and power in mind, with futuristic details and dynamic design for a more fun urban drive look. Inspired by iconic designs, the EX variant takes Kia’s A-segment car up a notch with its stronger build with subtle edginess and a rich body volume to fulfil customer’s demands. Furthermore, its open-link style radiator grille visually enhances the Picanto’s wide proportions to achieve that modern sleek look.

The KIA Mega Merdeka campaign is available for a limited time only and valid at all Naza Kia showrooms nationwide from now until 31st August 2018, while stocks last.

Kia Motors Corporation revealed for the first time, its next-generation Separated Sound Zone (SSZ) technology that allows each passenger of a vehicle to experience an audio stream tailored to their individual needs, including music, hands-free phone calls, and vehicle alerts, whilst maintaining a headphone-free social space where passengers can converse freely.

SSZ technology creates and controls the acoustic fields of the car, allowing the driver and each passenger to hear isolated sounds. The many speakers installed in the vehicle feature technology that uses scientific principles to reduce or increase audio levels of sound waves. This negates the overlap of sounds being heard in each seat, creating the same effect as current noise cancellation systems, but without the need for headphones.

“Customers in the autonomous navigation era will demand increasingly customizable entertainment options within their vehicles, which includes technological innovations such as the Separated Sound System,” says Kang-duck Ih, Research Fellow at Kia’s NVH Research Lab. “I hope by providing drivers and passengers with tailored, independent audio spaces, they will experience a more comfortable and entertaining transportation environment.”

People’s musical tastes vary, so some passengers choose to use headphones during a journey to isolate their audio stream, but this also creates an unnecessary social barrier when interacting with other passengers. When travelling in a vehicle equipped with next-generation SSZ technology, each passenger can connect their smartphone via Bluetooth and listen to their own music without interference from, or interfering with other passenger’s audio streams. When the SSZ is utilized, hands-free phone calls can also be isolated to individual passengers, ensuring privacy when having important phone conversations on the move.

Furthermore, this ground-breaking technology can eliminate unnecessary sounds for the passenger, but provide them for the driver. Navigation sounds, or various alerts allow the driver to focus on controlling the vehicle, while the SSZ system isolates these sounds, maintaining a quiet area for the other passengers. This has a particularly strong application for drivers with a sleeping child in the vehicle.

SSZ technology has been in development since 2014, and the completed mass production system is expected to be ready for installation in vehicles within one to two years.

Be afraid, be very afraid… the Kia Stinger has officially arrived! Naza Kia Malaysia Sdn Bhd (NKM), the official distributor of KIA vehicles in Malaysia, has finally introduced the much-anticipated Kia Stinger, marking the Korean marque’s foray into the sport sedan segment in the country. Derived from the world-renowned GT concept, the KIA’s fastest automobile yet is designed (by Peter Schreyer) to be a true gran turismo, earning it global recognition for its blend of high performance and supreme comfort. It’s up against some VERY stiff competition too…

Dato’ Samson Anand George, Group CEO, Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings Sdn Bhd, (below, second from left) said, “The Kia Stinger is the culmination of years of passion and commitment fuelled by the brand’s bold and adventurous spirit to amalgamate nimble performance and unyielding style. To meet customer demands in Malaysia, we are introducing two variants of the Kia Stinger, the 3.3-litre V6 GT and the 2.0-litre GT-Line, both sports sedans that exude disarming confidence, elegance and athleticism.

“Driven by Kia’s motto ‘The Power to Surprise’, the Kia Stinger ushers in a new era of innovation for the Korean brand while preserving its DNA to deliver the best performance, comfort and features. With that, we believe the Kia Stinger will elevate the brand’s identity and will be a revolutionary benchmark for the future of Kia vehicles,” added Dato’ Samson, who also announced the price of the new Kia Stinger in the launch video below:

More from Naza Kia on the new Stinger….

With its sleek fastback silhouette and rear-wheel-drive proportions, the Kia Stinger commands attention wherever it goes. As a gran turismo purebred, its roofline sits at a perfect angle to provide aerodynamic benefits as air flows over the bonnet and roof, and off the back of the car while maintaining a pleasing aesthetic. The wide front and rear track, along with the recessed contours along the doors, enhance the visual power of the Kia Stinger’s shoulder line as well as its fastback silhouette.

The Kia Stinger’s aerodynamic profile is further enhanced with the bodywork tapered slightly towards the rear of the car and new ‘gills’ introduced behind the front wheel arches, each serving to reduce wake turbulence as air passes over the car’s flanks.

The aggressive stance is amplified with Kia’s signature ‘tiger-nose’ grille, sitting proudly at the front between complex full LED headlamps and accentuated with honeycomb-shaped, dark-chromed, hot-stamped patterns added onto a black base to ensure a premium exterior.

The Kia Stinger’s aesthetic value has already gained recognition worldwide, having received an EyesOn Design award for Production Car Design Excellence at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in 2017.

Inside, a sleek and sophisticated cabin space evokes a minimally luxurious feel with its aircraft-style design and high-quality finishes in modern key colours. Ultra-soft Nappa leather envelops the deeply contoured seats for the 3.3L V6 GT trim and natural leather is available for the 2.0L GT-Line. Both variants offer 8-way power driver seat and 4-way mechanical lumbar support, creating a space dedicated to the thrill of driving while cossetting the occupants with luxury.

Aeronautically inspired circular vents at the front and rear and a satin chrome ring tastefully encircles the rest of the cabin, creating the effect of cocooned intimacy, a feeling further elevated by warm and inviting LED lights that softly illuminate the finely-crafted interior.

Key to its road presence lies in the pounding hearts under the sculpted hood, where a choice of two turbocharged engines are available. The 2.0L twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder Theta II T-GDi engine produces 251 horsepower at 6,200 rpm with 353Nm of maximum torque available from 1,400 – 4,000 rpm, propelling the Stinger from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.0 seconds.

Performance credentials are further enhanced through the 3.3L twin-turbo V6 Lambda T-GDi engine (below), which sees the racehorse accelerating to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds with its 365 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and offers 510Nm of torque from 1,300 – 4,500 rpm – ultimately proving itself to be a worthy challenger to the competition.

The Kia Stinger features an in-house designed second-generation eight-speed rear-wheel drive automatic transmission. The transmission also features Kia’s first use of a Centrifugal Pendulum Absorber (CPA) torque converter on the 2.0L GT-Line to help reduce torsional vibrations through the drivetrain, a technology more typically found in aviation- and racing-engine applications.

For intuitive control and smarter, more spirited driving, the Stinger’s innovative Shift-By-Wire transmission control allows the driver to interchange between transmission modes through electronic controls. The gearbox can be set to intuitively manage shifts on its own or selectively run through the gears via paddle shift levers mounted behind the steering wheel. As with the suspension and steering, the Stinger’s rear-wheel drive system is fully integrated with its 5-Drive Mode, offering distinct calibration between comfort and sport modes.

From its GT concept-car origins to the years of tuning and refining on the legendary Nürburgring circuit, the Kia Stinger proved its mettle to handle even the most demanding road conditions with composed poise, contributed by the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) that features the sophisticated Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control system. This system monitors driver inputs and road conditions and then automatically distributes power in real-time based on the driving situation, minimising understeer in the process and gives the driver confidence to maneuver in even in the most inclement weather. Other powerful features include Electronically-Controlled Suspension (ECS) and Rack-mounted Motor-Driven Power Steering (R-MDPS).

Other industry-leading safety features include Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), Antilock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS) and Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning and 7 airbags. Due to its advanced safety technologies, the Kia Stinger received the highest rating of 5 stars from Euro NCAP.

The Kia Stinger rides on a chassis comprised of 55 percent advanced high-strength steel, and the MacPherson front setup features large diameter shock absorbers, high-strength wheel bearings, and an aluminium strut brace, while the reinforced five-link rear suspension is mounted to a stiffened rear subframe for outstanding durability.

The 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder GT-Line models ride on 225/45R-18 performance all-season tires (18 inch alloy), while the 3.3L V6 GT model (above) is equipped with staggered ultra-high performance Continental ContiSportContact 5 tires that have been specifically engineered and tuned for the Stinger – 225/40R-19 in front and 255/35R-19 at the rear (19 inch alloy).

Additionally, the Kia Stinger GT trim’s stopping power comes from standard high-performance Brembo® disc brakes featuring quad-piston front calipers and dual-piston rear calipers.  The lightweight monobloc all-aluminium calipers reduce unsprung weight and are coupled with large diameter brake discs (13.8-inch front and 13.4-inch rear) that quickly dissipate heat and help to deliver short stopping distances.

The Stinger’s long wheelbase at 2,905mm is ahead of its segment, and boasts a longer and wider body than many others in the same segment at 4830mm and 1,870mm respectively. This advantage allows for generous front and rear legroom while the lowered hip point provides ample headroom even for the tallest occupants. With 406 litres of boot space, the Kia Stinger’s boot area is also larger than many of its competitors, with enough space to accommodate full-size luggage or golf bags.

Taking in-car technology to the next level is the high dashboard with a powerful dose of dynamics and pure emotion interior that lays out a strong horizontal plane for the driver. The center console is intuitively split into two specific areas: the infotainment system and an 8-inch floating navigation touchscreen integrated with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while climate and ventilation controls nestle beneath.

Central to the driver is a ‘D-cut’ type of GT and GT-Line steering wheel draped in thick hand-stitched multifunction leather for a sporty look and feel. A crystal-clear 7-inch TFT LCD landscape cluster display sits between the gauge displays to relay performance data such as cornering G-forces, lap times and engine-oil temperature (available for 3.3L GT variant only), along with ancillary information such as the trip computer, driver settings, navigation and diagnostics.

Scenic drives are not complete without a superior sound system. The Kia Stinger’s 15-speaker Harman Kardon premium speaker system further amplifies the dynamic driving experience of the Kia Stinger, accompanying occupants on the road with crisp sound clarity.

Other amenities included in the Kia Stinger for a pleasurable driving experience are Colour Head-Up Display (HUD), Dynamic Bending Light (DBL), Around View (AVM) with Driving Rear-View (DRM) Monitors, Integrated Memory System (IMS) for the driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charger and electrochromic side mirrors to control the glare of incoming headlights.

The KIA Stinger’s debut stunned many on the international arena, in an industry conquered mostly by German and Japanese makes. Since its introduction to the world in August 2017, the Kia Stinger has clinched numerous global accolades from prestigious names of the industry, such as ‘Best of the Year’ & ‘Best Sports Sedan’ in MotorWeek’s 2018 Drivers’ Choice Awards, Roadshow By CNET Shift Award For 2018 Vehicle Of The Year, Wards 10 Best Interiors for 2018, AutoGuide 2018 Car Of The Year, Autotrader’s 10 Best Car Interiors under $50,000 for 2018 and many more.

Both trims of the Kia Stinger are available in four exquisite exterior colours HiChroma Red, Deep Chroma Blue, Panthera Metal and Aurora Black. Interior-wise, the 3.3L V6 GT receives an exquisite red colour package while the 2.0L GT-Line comes in a flush black one-tone.

The 3.3-litre V6 GT variant goes for RM309,888 on-the-road without insurance while the 2.0-litre GT-Line variant is priced at RM239,888 on-the-road without insurance.

Also as the Official Partner of FIFA World Cup 2018, Kia lent its support to aspiring young football players and fans to be a step closer to achieving their dreams through the Kia “Champ Into The Arena” futsal tournament and the Kia Official Match Ball Carrier competition in Malaysia which were held over two weekends.

Dato’ Samson Anand George, Group CEO, Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings (below) said, “Through these competitions, Kia seeks to build bonds with potential customers and fans of these events and give them a chance to connect with the brand in a more personal and meaningful manner by nurturing young football talent.”

The Malaysia leg of the Official Match Ball Carrier competition was held at the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) on 22nd April 2018 for children from the age of 10 to 14. The competition saw 14-year-old Adam Riezman taking home the title of “Official Match Ball Carrier” to represent Malaysia as one of 64 children from all over the world who receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry the match ball onto the pitch during FIFA World Cup 2018.

A Portugal supporter at the FIFA World Cup and an avid fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, Adam (above) hopes to see his favourite team and player in action at the world event in Russia. “I am thankful to my parents for supporting my ambition and passion for football since I was 9. I can’t wait for this trip to Russia where I will get to meet football fans alike who share the same love for football. Thank you also to Naza Kia Malaysia for giving me this opportunity to represent Malaysia as their Kia Official Match Ball Carrier,” said Adam.

The Kia Official Match Ball Carrier competitions are held in countries worldwide in search of young football fans. The Malaysian leg of the competition saw more than 200 participants from every corner of Malaysia gathering at KLFA Sport Centre Kuala Lumpur to show off their abilities to vie for the coveted spot. Participants were tested on several areas such as agility, skill, attitude and teamwork in a nationwide tournament held at the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA).

Team TOT United from Kuala Lumpur emerged as the champions of the Malaysian Kia Champ Into The Arena tournament and will represent Malaysia in the international Kia Champ Into The Arena World Finals in Russia

About 170 teams who took part in the Kia ‘Champ into the Arena’ 2018 tournament went through a vigorous competition, where qualifying rounds were held from 31 March to 21 April 2018 in Peninsular Malaysia – namely Penang (Northern), Terengganu (East Coast), Johor (Southern) and Selangor (Central). Only top four successful teams from each region progressed to the Malaysians Grand Finals which took place at KLFA Sport Centre in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur last Sunday.

Held on 29 April 2018, the ‘Champ Into The Arena’ futsal tournament aims to search for a talented futsal team that will represent Malaysia to compete on a world stage. This is the fourth time Naza Kia Malaysia organised this futsal tournament in conjunction with the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2018. The first was in 2010.

Team TOT United, from Kuala Lumpur emerged champion and earned the right to represent Malaysia in the international Kia Champ Into The Arena World Finals in Russia! The competition will run concurrently with FIFA World Cup 2018 from 15 June to 15 July in Russia.

“My team and I are ecstatic and proud to be representing Malaysia at the international Kia Champ Into the Arena World Finals in Russia! Our team was only formed during the qualifying round in Penang. To prepare for the final few matches, we had to undergo intensive training for a short period of time and I am so glad that the blood, sweat and tears we shed paid off,” said senior TOT United team member, Hazizi bin Mansor.

25-year-old Hazizi is no stranger to the international stage as his previous team also emerged as victors for the Malaysian Kia Champ In The Arena tournament in 2014 and represented Malaysia that year in Brazil.

The winning team, TOT United comprising six players aged 23 to 26, will fly to Russia on an all-expenses paid trip inclusive of accommodation, flight tickets, tour, RM5,000 cash prize and exclusive tickets to watch one of the World Cup Final Match live.

Kia Champ Into The Arena is more than just a futsal tournament as it is a way of Naza Kia Malaysia giving back to the public and customers for their loyalty and support. Apart from the futsal tournament, there were a variety of activities such as an exhibition match and a photo booth station, and the chance to test drive and have a feel of the Kia’s product line-up that were on display.

You know I gotta say that among all the carmakers who’ve been making headlines recently, there’s one brand that’s certainly living up to its motto of having ‘the power to surprise’ and that of course is Kia. I’m quite amazed by what the S.Korean carmaker has been doing in recent times, and it just got better…

Quite recently, I was very impressed with the Kia Optima GT, a performance sedan that makes no excuses for what it is, even ‘sounding’ like a thoroughbred V8 rather than a i4. Check out what I mean in this short video:

Fast-forward a few weeks and here I am again, this time testing the smallest member of the Kia family, the Picanto. Now the Picanto model itself is not new, it’s been around for a number of years and has enjoyed some success sales wise, and in fact, like what I mentioned in this VW Beetle Sport article, I know of at least 3 motoring media who liked the little Picanto so much, they bought one after the launch and subsequent review. How’s that for acceptance?

And speaking of acceptance, here’s my quick first-impression video of the new Picanto, plus a 360-degree walkaround:

Now in its third generation, the baby Kia offers first-time car buyers an alternative to what would normally be a ‘national car’ purchase, and maybe that’s why the Picanto costs less than RM50,000 (no, really). But hang on, a Proton Iriz costs more than that. Hmm…

Residing in the A-segment and aimed squarely at first-time car buyers, Kia claims that the Picanto is the ‘biggest small car’ around, and they’re not wrong. Despite its diminutive external appearance, the Picanto offers a very decent amount of room inside it, and as far as the former is concerned, again, you can thank Peter Schreyer and his design team for making the car look anything but introductory e.g. “cheap”.

Aesthetics wise, the little Picanto makes a very good first impression indeed. Its ‘angry bird’ front facade houses LED daytime running lights, while the rear sports LED combination lamps. Its double wheel-arch design coupled with the concave shoulder-line affords the car an optical-illusion of sorts, making it look bigger than it really is, and that’s a neat trick. If it were purely slab-sided, it would look smaller. The rear doors that taper upwards toward the end, and the decreasing-width rear windows also add to this ruse. Very clever.

But Kia aren’t cheating, because in typical ‘inside out’ build fashion, the Picanto is surprisingly roomy on the inside for an A-segmenter. There’s more than enough space for six-footers to get comfortable in the driver’s seat, and millennials will love the gadgets that come standard such as a full-colour ‘floating’ 7-inch Touch-screen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto Ready, that also houses the reverse-camera, as well as the usual AUX & USB ports to hitch your phone to.

In addition to keyless entry, a start/stop button and a multi-function steering wheel, active and passive safety wise, the Picanto certainly doesn’t disappoint. There’s 6-airbags, ABS & Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX and seat-belt pretensioners, all wrapped within a chassis and body made-up of 44% AHSS or Advanced High Strength Steel. Full specifications list is available after the photo gallery below.

However, tech jargon aside, the most impressive thing about the new Picanto only comes to light when it’s driven. Quite possibly, and with no exaggeration, this is the best A-segment car I’ve ever driven, period. It offers amazing levels of NVH suppression, it’s comfortable, quiet and reassuring. It doesn’t feel like a small car when being driven around, and despite having only a 4-speed auto, it’s a regular auto-gearbox and not a CVT, and that makes all the difference.

The Picanto’s Kappa 1.2-litre engine is good for 84Ps and 121.6Nm of torque powering the front wheels, and while that may not sound like a lot, it’s plenty for a car in this class, and again, like its motto, it has the power to surprise, especially when the roads are clear; it certainly surprised me…

Impressive for a little 1,248cc 4-pot isn’t it? The thing is, even at that speed, the Picanto still felt composed and more importantly, reassuring, protesting only slightly when faced with lateral cross-winds. With disc-brakes all round (ventilated in front) stopping power is also very good, while steering feel from the motor-driver power steering offers a decent amount of feedback, and is very direct.

Driven at more sedate (read: sane, legal, normal, etc.) speeds, the Picanto rewards with an extremely smooth and frugal drive. Despite our best attempts and extremely hard driving, we only used 1/4 of the fuel during a drive that would have emptied my own cars’ tank.

Needless to say, I think we were all quite impressed with this new offering from Kia, and coincidentally it just so happened that 2 of the 3 aforementioned media who’d bought the previous generation Picanto were on this media drive. I spoke to both of them in regards to how this new Picanto compared to theirs, as they would be the best judge of any improvements…

You’d think they were talking about Ferrari’s in the way they exalted about this third generation. I think the word ‘everything’ was used when I asked about improvements over the second gen Picanto, and one of them is already thinking about trading in his for the new one. Yes, it’s just that good.

So seriously, for those seeking a first car, or even a runabout addition to your stable at home, something that costs less than RM50k (RM49,888 to be exact), you really, really need to go have a look and test drive of the new Kia Picanto 1.2. Power to Surprise? Go find out. – Chris Wee.

We’re on the official test drive of the new Kia Picanto today, and here’s a quick first-impression video!

Gotta say it’s been pretty impressive so far, its little 1.2-litre Kappa n/a engine is good for 84Ps and 121.6Nm, which may not seem like much, but for a car this small, it’s more than adequate. Nippy and frugal!

Speaking of size, the Picanto seems to have blurred the line between an A- and B-segment car just a bit, because while it may look diminutive on the outside, there’s a very decent amount of room on the inside…

Thus far the most impressive thing about it is its NVH levels, as well as its ride and handling and interior fit & finish. Priced at RM49,888 its superb value for money. Stay tuned for more coming soon!
