Dalam langkah strategik untuk mempercepatkan pelan elektrifikasinya, Mazda Motor Corporation telah mengumumkan kerjasama rasmi dengan pengeluar bateri global terkemuka, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL). Usaha sama ini dijalankan melalui Changan Mazda, hasil perkongsian Mazda dengan Changan Automobile di China, dan akan memanfaatkan teknologi casis pintar bersepadu CIIC (Cell to Chassis Integrated Intelligent Chassis) terkini keluaran CATL.

Platform CIIC yang diperkenalkan oleh CATL pada Disember lalu mewakili pendekatan baharu dalam reka bentuk kenderaan elektrik, dengan struktur gaya papan selaju yang memisahkan bahagian atas dan bawah kenderaan. Pendekatan “decoupled” ini membolehkan penggunaan subsistem modular serta antara muka sambungan yang standard, sekali gus memberikan fleksibiliti yang tinggi dalam pembangunan perisian dan perkakasan kenderaan. Keupayaan ini membolehkan pengeluar seperti Mazda menyesuaikan produk mereka dengan lebih pantas dan cekap mengikut keperluan pasaran yang sentiasa berubah.

Dengan menggabungkan teknologi casis CIIC daripada CATL dengan kepakaran pengeluaran automotif Changan Mazda, kerjasama ini dijangka mempercepatkan tempoh pembangunan dan memperkenalkan kenderaan tenaga baharu (NEV) yang bukan sahaja menepati kehendak pengguna, malah mematuhi peraturan automotif yang semakin ketat di China dan pasaran global.

In a decisive step toward accelerating its electrification agenda, Mazda Motor Corporation has entered a strategic partnership with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), the global leader in electric vehicle battery manufacturing. The collaboration, conducted through Mazda’s Chinese joint venture with Changan Automobile, Changan Mazda, will centre around the adoption of CATL’s state-of-the-art CIIC (Cell to Chassis Integrated Intelligent Chassis) platform.

Unveiled in December last year, CATL’s CIIC platform offers a revolutionary skateboard-style vehicle architecture. It employs a decoupled structure that separates the vehicle’s upper and lower bodies, allowing for modular sub-systems and standardised connection interfaces. This setup facilitates enhanced flexibility in both hardware and software integration, enabling automakers to streamline vehicle development while rapidly adapting to shifting market demands.

By merging CATL’s advanced chassis technology with Changan Mazda’s established automotive production capabilities, the joint venture aims to significantly reduce development lead times and introduce new energy vehicles (NEVs) that respond swiftly to evolving consumer and regulatory expectations.

Di sebalik arus peralihan industri automotif global ke arah elektrifikasi, pendigitalan dan pengecilan saiz enjin, Mazda menegaskan pendiriannya untuk tidak mengorbankan nilai teras yang menjadikan model ikonik MX-5 — atau lebih dikenali sebagai Miata — kekal digemari selama lebih tiga dekad.

Walaupun sudah lebih sepuluh tahun di pasaran, Miata generasi keempat (ND) terus mencuri hati peminat kereta sports kompak seluruh dunia. Mazda kini dilihat bersungguh-sungguh untuk mengekalkan semangat asli model ini dalam generasi pengganti yang akan datang.

Menurut laporan Road & Track, Pengurus Besar Bahagian Reka Bentuk Mazda, Masashi Nakayama, telah mengesahkan bahawa MX-5 generasi baharu akan mengekalkan falsafah kejuruteraan ringan. Sasaran syarikat adalah untuk memastikan berat kenderaan (kerb weight) kekal di bawah 1,000kg—mencerminkan pendekatan model khas MX-5 ND 990S yang hanya dijual di Jepun.

Walaupun kebanyakan pembeli kereta masa kini menjangkakan kabin yang lebih luas bagi setiap model baharu, Mazda menegaskan bahawa generasi seterusnya MX-5 akan mengekalkan dimensi yang padat. Panjang keseluruhan dijangka kekal di bawah empat meter, menyamai ukuran semasa model ND iaitu 154.1 inci (sekitar 3.9 meter).

Despite the automotive industry’s ongoing shift towards electrification, digitalisation, and downsizing, Mazda has no intention of abandoning the core characteristics that have made the MX-5 a beloved icon for over three decades. Even after ten years on the market, the current ND-generation Miata remains a favourite among enthusiasts, and the Japanese marque appears committed to preserving its spirit in the forthcoming successor.

Masashi Nakayama, General Manager of Mazda’s Design Division, has confirmed that the next MX-5 will continue the brand’s pursuit of lightweight engineering, as reported by Road & Track. Mazda’s internal goal is to keep the future model’s kerb weight below 1,000kg. This weight target echoes the philosophy of the Japan-only ND 990S, which currently stands as the lightest version of the Miata at just 990kg.

While car buyers often anticipate more interior space with each new model generation, those hoping for a roomier MX-5 cabin may be left disappointed. Mazda’s engineers are determined to keep the vehicle compact, and the new model is expected to retain a length of under four metres. This would align closely with the current ND’s measurement of 154.1 inches, reaffirming the brand’s stance on maintaining the Miata’s signature footprint.

Mazda terus memperhebatkan peralihannya ke arah mobiliti elektrik melalui kerjasama strategik yang semakin erat bersama pembuat kenderaan dari China, Changan Automobile. Hasil terbaharu daripada perkongsian ini ialah pelancaran EZ-60, sebuah SUV elektrik sepenuhnya yang baru-baru ini diperkenalkan di platform media sosial China, Weibo.

Model ini merupakan kesinambungan kepada sedan elektrik EZ-6 dan dijangka dipasarkan secara lebih meluas di peringkat antarabangsa dengan nama Mazda CX-6e.

EZ-60 boleh dianggap sebagai versi pengeluaran kepada model konsep Mazda Arata, dan menandakan usaha terbaharu jenama Jepun itu untuk bersaing dalam segmen SUV elektrik yang kian berkembang pesat. Ini juga merupakan langkah pembetulan selepas kegagalan model MX-30 untuk mencapai sambutan memberangsangkan di pasaran global. Dari segi rekaan, EZ-60 tampil dengan gaya moden dan agresif, termasuk penggunaan flying buttress yang jarang dilihat pada kenderaan dalam segmennya. Ia juga menampilkan kamera sisi menggantikan cermin pandang sisi tradisional, teknologi yang kini dibenarkan pada kenderaan di China sejak dua tahun lalu.

Model ini dibangunkan di bawah usaha sama Changan-Mazda, sebuah syarikat usaha sama 50:50 yang telah wujud lebih sedekad. EZ-60 berkongsi asas pembinaan dengan Deepal S07, iaitu SUV elektrik keluaran anak syarikat khas EV milik Changan, Deepal. Berdasarkan platform tersebut, EZ-60 akan ditawarkan dalam dua varian—model elektrik sepenuhnya serta versi jarak jauh (range-extended) yang menggunakan enjin petrol 1.5 liter sebagai penjana kuasa. Namun begitu, masih belum dapat dipastikan sama ada varian lanjutan jarak itu akan ditawarkan di pasaran Eropah. Buat masa ini, sedan EZ-6 ditawarkan sebagai kenderaan elektrik bateri sepenuhnya di luar China.

Mazda is accelerating its electrification ambitions through its deepening collaboration with Chinese automaker Changan. The latest result of this strategic partnership is the unveiling of the EZ-60, a fully electric SUV that was recently revealed on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The new model follows the launch of the EZ-6 sedan and is widely expected to be marketed outside of China under the name CX-6e.

The EZ-60 is effectively a production version of the Arata concept, and signals Mazda’s renewed effort to compete in the burgeoning electric SUV space—a segment where the brand’s previous entry, the MX-30, failed to gain significant traction. The SUV boasts a sharp and modern exterior design, notably featuring flying buttresses—an unusual touch for this type of vehicle. Also present are side cameras replacing traditional mirrors, a technology that has been permitted on Chinese production cars for around two years.

Built under the Changan-Mazda joint venture—a 50:50 partnership established more than a decade ago—the EZ-60 shares its underpinnings with the Deepal S07, an electric SUV from Changan’s dedicated EV subsidiary, Deepal. This suggests that the EZ-60 will be offered in two versions: a fully electric variant and a range-extending model that integrates a 1.5-litre petrol engine. However, it remains uncertain whether the latter configuration will be offered in European markets. Mazda currently offers the EZ-6 sedan solely as a battery-electric vehicle in regions outside China.

Sistem brek turut dipertingkatkan menerusi penggunaan Endless Super Street S-Sports Brake Pads, yang menawarkan tahap kestabilan lebih tinggi, daya tahan terhadap kepanasan serta keselesaan untuk pemanduan harian.

The 2025 Mazda MX-5 RF is available in several colours, including Deep Crystal Blue, Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Jet Black, and the newly added Aero Gray. The 35th Anniversary Edition is exclusively available in Artisan Red Premium. Pricing for the Mazda MX-5 RF (Manual/Auto) starts from RM293,000.00, and the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is priced at RM315,000.00.

All new Mazda models come with a 5-Year Manufacturer Warranty and 5-Year Free Maintenance (including parts, labour, and lubricants, excluding Mazda B50), with a mileage limit of 100,000 km or five years, whichever comes first.

The Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition will be showcased at the Bermaz Auto Showcase from 10th to 13th April 2025 at the Oval Concourse, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

In conjunction with the launch, an exclusive Mazda MX-5 Photo Contest will also take place from 10th to 13th April at both 1 Utama and Sunway Carnival Mall (Northern Region), offering fans a chance to win exciting Mazda merchandise.
